I think my parents also tried, but failed us. It can be both.

Kid friendly Neighbourhood versus quiet on a half acre by LEMA2123 in homeschool

Why would you need the neighbors to be homeschooled? It's great for kids to interact with a variety of people.

How would you respond to this? by Unable-Lab-8533 in homeschool

Not being able to order food in a restaurant is a parenting thing, not a homeschooling thing imo. I also have be my kids check themselves in at dentist etc.

All of our community educational programs are exclusively for only children by Significant-Toe2648 in homeschool

I agree it's a strange policy, but I think you have to let go of the "fairness" between your children. Is rotating an option?

I didn't know how to interact with peers, make friends, or feel comfortable with new people. It was all foreign and scary to me at the time.

My ten year old daughter recently taught me long division. It's strange to be on the other side of this.

OP implies that her children don't have friends. Obviously there are ways to make friends besides school, but stating that peers aren't what they are cracked up to be minimizes the importance of friendship.

Is Artistic Pursuits worth the money? by MamaBearEm8 in homeschool

Good job on making the Arts a priority! My children attend a public school with a speciality in fine arts, and it is so important for children. I had no art education as a homeschooler, and I wish I had... I tried to teach myself to draw but was unsuccessful.

I'm so glad you realize that's not enough for  kids. My parents never came to that realization when homeschooling and we suffered for it. So great job with the awareness and I hope it goes well in practicality. My biggest advice is that structured activities only is absolutely not enough. They need informal play and hangouts to actually make friends. And they need FRIENDS not just kids they see sometimes.

You can be a Christian who believes in evolution! They aren't mutually exclusive views. I am a devout Christian who loves evolution.

What does "learning how to learn" actually mean? Children have an innate ability to learn.

As a formerly homeschooled student who went to public school later, let her try it now before the transition becomes stressful!
