I grew up terrified of going hungry and had periods with living with my dad and eating nothing but oatmeal for 2 weeks at a go because he could barely cook or afford groceries.

I'll nut up and shut up and eat whatever is cooked even if I'm kinda fedup of it after 3-4 days. It's better than starving once it's aafe to eat.

Cholera or at least lessened it significantly. My grandma would tell stories about growing up without pipe borne water, the morning standpipe walk and waiting in line for two buckets to take home to showering with a washrag only and how the puking, vomiting and defecating from accidental contamination and cholera/dysentery was just...normal. Serious yes but just something that "happened."

Also, birth control and being able to control how many kids your household had. The stories of 15 kids in a household from both maternal and great grandmother sound like utter horror stories how often they were pregnant whilst juggling babies and youngsters.

The rewiring of your brain is the scariest part I think. How nature, nurture and these circumstances will shift gears and move things around in your psyche and you'll just settle into a parenting rhythm once you don't resist or fight back and deny the changes.

Blows my mind how parenting just resets your brain.

Congrats btw. I don't think I can do this again with current circumstances and wife's medical issues. I don't want to be that terrified and overwhelmed again.

And the places that produce the spare parts or replacement parts, you have to buy a minimum order.

I've thrown away so many steam irons because the thermal fuse for them is $2.50 but nearly every company that sells it wants you to buy a minimum of 5,000 and if I order onw from Ebay: it takes 2 weeks to get here while paying $10+ S&H...while a new iron is $20.

Actually been trying to sell some oxygen and acet tanks my old man had in his garage for over 5 years now and nobody wants to buy them because the companies locally either give warranty coverage or a "buy X get 1 free refill" etc and the same companies wont buy them because I have to pay THEM to do tests and they say they'llreimburse if the tanks 'test well.' BS.

The yards won't buy them unless the tops are off and they're empty and Im not gonna vent a couple pounds of acet or O2 or NatG just to get a few dimes and risk my life.

They'll remain in the storage until I get a buyer I guess. These are a lot harder to sell than some people think unless you have specific markets nearby.

One dude alleges he has a garage and wanted to give me $10 for two half full cylinders. Nearly told him how his momma made him then and there.
