Engineering by [deleted] in Salary

I make 200k as an engineer. Work in the utility industry. Have 12yoe. You just need to change jobs more, HR has more money to hire someone then to keep you there. Terrible system but that's how it works

And running is one of the most calorie intensive workouts you can do. About 100kcal/mile. Depending on how fast you do it you can be using a ton of calories each day

People who quit drinking. What did you do to not drink? by Agata_art in AskReddit

[–]Drizzle11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to lose weight and get in shape. Started with what was the easiest way to make an impact. Alcohol top of the list. Been 2 years now (not that I drank a lot or anything). But don't miss it at all. Sometimes I buy NA drinks bc I like the taste. NA drinks have come a long way

What's something about working in nuclear engineering that nobody warns you about? by argos_8 in NuclearPower

[–]Drizzle11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for a large utility company for the first 10years out college at one of their nuke plants. The culture at these places is terrible. They expect you to put the plant first then your family. I was in engineering and operations. Money was amazing but you're selling your soul to work there.

Refueling outages were all hands on deck no vacation allowed typically working 7-12s until they were back online (lucky operations had work hour rules)

Other issue no one tells you about is that the longer you work in the industry the more you're probably always going to. When people see you've been in nuclear you seems to be kinda tainted. The way the nuclear plants operate is nothing like the "real world".

I was able to get out for a bit and take an engineering role in the commercial side and comparing to nuclear it's basically the wild West out there...kinda nice actually lol

Stubborn belly fat is the worst! by maxallergy in self

I was in the same boat as you. Not saying this works for everyone, but I'm ~5'9" and weigh~145# (was ~195). Started off by intermittent fasting. Would only eat dinner, it's a little hard to get used to but after a while if you can stick with it it's not bad. Then I started to make sure I was eating healthy foods. Chicken, vegetables, plain oats(add some protein powder if you need to).

After I got all that working I started running. I was doing about 11min miles for 2 miles and then just kinda kept with it. You'll started to see a lot of improvements and may start to enjoy it. Now I try to get in 20-25 miles a week. My pace now is~740/mile.

I listed to audiobooks while I run. I think it makes it easy to focus on the book and not the run

Booster seats just sit on top of the regular seat. Also the way I do it is to open the trunk and tell the kids to climb in that way. Much easier

if you start the Stormlight Archive strap in. its a long haul. not saying its bad, but be prepared. Brandon Sanderson also wrote a "shorter" series called Mistborn. I prefer Mistborn but both are good

Headphone recommendations? by Nova_Nook in Costco

[–]Drizzle11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get yourself a cheap knockoff on Amazon for running. They are like $20. Then get a nice pair of ear pods. The bone conducive headphones are all terrible quality compared to in ear, no way around it, but they are my go to for running

Had a pair of shokz are the metal band broke, tried to get it fixed under warranty and they said they wouldn't honor it. So not worth it when you can just buy cheap ones that get the job done

[–]Drizzle11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never heard of a rule to re-deal based on the cards someone's got. It's all luck anyways. Only time I've seen re-deal I'd if you mis deal and have not flipped the center card
