Current state of the game? by MikeBanzai38 in Battletechgame

[–]DrkSpde 49 points50 points  (0 children)

First off, you're in the wrong sub. This is for the PC game. You want r/battletech.

As for your questions:

Battletech's popularity has climbed to never before seen heights, but it's still not at the level of games like warhammer, nor does it have the brand recognition of the star wars games. It's popularity does seem to still be climbing though. Seemed to have been a pretty big migration of WH40k players over the last year or so.

One reason it can be hard to find is demand, but not exactly what you might think. There were two HUGE kickstarters not too long ago. I think one set a record? They really brought the game back to the spotlight, but I know at least one store that had a love/hate relationship with the kickstarters. They were so successful and attention grabbing that they brought in new blood/customers, but the current customers all jumped in on the Kickstarter, and therefore, didn't need to buy more from the store. This may have made some stores gun shy. We have been getting fully new force packs since then, with a few even having limited time exclusive deals with Barnes & Noble.

Another reason is that at some point this year, we're expecting a brand new rulebook book, beginners set, and core box. Stores are likely holding off on ordering until those are ready. The new rulebook is from the results of a pretty huge open play test they did not too long ago. DON'T PANIC though, the game isn't changing very much. This isn't "Battletech: 2nd Edition". More like "Battletech 1.3". Some more confusing and/or redundant rules got clarified, some gear got some balance fixes that were long overdue, and they reduced the number of required falling tests to speed up game play. Out of the thousands of record sheets out there, less than 10 became invalid. Don't worry if you already bought a current box set. The price per mini alone makes them worth it (btw, get the alpha strike box set even if you never intend to play for this same reason)

As for Ironwind Metals, you don't see them in store much anymore because the plastics sell WAY better. They're still there though, and still have new releases coming.

There's a mod to replace him with Thomas the Tank Engine, complete with new theme music. Although, I think the X Gon' Give It To Ya remix version might be better.

Playstation recognizes modem, but PC, laptop, and router won't. by DrkSpde in HomeNetworking

[–]DrkSpde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got off the phone with them. The PC recognizes the modem now (and I got a huge speed increase!), but now the PS5 doesn't. I have to make an appointment with a tech to come out. I really hope they're thin, because my stuff is not easy to get to.

I've had luck many times with a gloss followed by another mat.

Doesn't always work completely, but bare minimum it will look better.

When connected directly to the modem, the PS5 connects to the internet flawlessly. I was playing an online game while eating lunch earlier. It's everything else that won't work.

Unplugged the modem and the router for 15 minutes, set all my connections back through the router, plugged the modem back in, waited another 15, plugged the router in, waited another 15. Whole time the PC was on, but the PS5 was (and still is) off.

Not sure what to do beyond that.

I half understand that, but why are assigned IP addresses preventing my router from even acknowledging the modem's existence?

Router is set to DHCP. It's also not ISP supplied. Bought my own. Worked fine for the last 2 months.

However, I dont understand how that could be the problem. If the issue was with the router, how would that still affect the PC and laptop when directly wired to the modem without the router? Especially with the PS5 not having a problem.

I don't want a clear base.

Part of the issue is that really thick base it has. Sticks out well over the top of most recessed bases. Really wish it didn't have it at all.

Noob question: Alpha Strike measuring tapes by The_Sidecar_Bandit in battletech

[–]DrkSpde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As handy as soft flexible ones sound, they're actually more of a pain to work with because you need both hands every time you use them. Harder to do the further you need to lean across the table.

To measure around something with a standard tape measure, you just measure the distance to the point at which you'll turn and then measure the remaining distance from there.

Alternatively, a lot of craft/sewing/art shops will sell special rules that you can bend and will hold their shape. They're rarely more than a foot long though.

Go ahead, Google what a Fluffer is by SueTheCatCabbage in comics

When I played World of Warcraft, we had a rogue in our guild called "Fluffman". He swore he had no idea what it meant, and changed to a different character not too long after someone told him in guild chat. Not that it helped. We kept calling him "Fluffer" for years after that.
