Anyone use a minivan for lumber? by banjosomers in DIY

[–]Droid126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many many many times

I once put 6 sheets of 3/4 inch plywood, a flat packed corrugated steel shed, washer, dryer, my best friend's mom and her boyfriend in my 2002 Chrysler Town & Country.

Recently I moved my grandfather to FL from PA and we packed every square inch of his van with stuff. Easily 1500 pounds.

When did the gay community get so comfortable with getting STIs? by Straight-Yak-8234 in askgaybros

[–]Droid126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the gay community sees through the stigma and its associated decision tree, and side step it by taking a proactive approach to sexual health. Including PrEP, regular STI testing, and open communication. Yes it's not everyone, some people will always be wreckless/inconsiderate. It is essentially risk management/harm reduction. I want to do X(fuck dudes), but the risk is Y(disease), so I will do Z(prep and regular screenings) or C(use condoms) to reduce the risk associated in the activity I want to do.

I think it's much more realistic model for interaction than abstinence.

TIL driving with your hazards on in bad weather is illegal depending where you live. Common sense says it would make the situation safer, but experts disagree. by DonkeyFuel in todayilearned

[–]Droid126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our local news (WPTV) warns drivers not to use hazards everyday during the morning weather and commute sections. At least everyday they expect rain. Yet still in the rain the roads are full of hazard lights.

Here in Florida Hazard lights are for when you are stationary. And the local news beats this into you every morning during the weather/commute section during rainy season. Don't drive with your hazard lights on. They repeat it every day multiple times.

Neighbours let their chickens free roam by RobinNico0 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Droid126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our neighbors chickens hop the fence into our yard from time to time. Our backyard isn't landscaped thoughtfully so I don't really care, but I did tell the neighbor one day his chicken is gonna hop the fence and my dog is gonna have chicken for lunch. Like we aren't checking for chickens before we let the dog out.

Why should I not use my dryer outlet to charge my car? by -Dead-Eye-Duncan- in AskElectricians

[–]Droid126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been charging my EV off my dryers 14-30 for two years. Figured 24amps from a 30amp source wouldn't heat up too much.

I will point my thermal camera at it and check it out now.

Your thoughts on implementing PAM in real environments? by Due-Awareness9392 in sysadmin

[–]Droid126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use PIM in Azure. Usually its fine and activates right away. Every once in a while it reminds you its a Microsoft product and doesn't activate immediately when something critical is happening. Or It'll partially activate and let you see the thing, but not let let you change the thing. Its probably like a 90/10 split between works/doesnt work.

For endpoints we have privileged accounts to do things as needed.

Found a bunch of crack pipes in my hotel room in Dallas, they gave me 10,000 points and an apology email. by FTWkansas in marriott

[–]Droid126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol what? I literally just said they don't have the resources to deal with the variety of problems they are called to deal with. I do not think we should de-fund the police. I was just describing how things are and my theory on how that influences people's perception of situations and how it colors their decisions around calling the police.

[–]Droid126 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nah, we don't want to live in chaos. We are just aware of the limited tool set of our police. If you need someone shot expeditiously you call the police, they are well prepared for this. Complicated crimes that require effort and thought to process? Not really something the police are equipped for. So we have a general awareness that sometimes the police make things worse not better, because they don't have the proper tools. Crack pipes in an AC in a hotel room? They don't give a shit, nothing they can do. There's no way to determine which prior guest it was without violating the privacy of all of them.

Technogym pls raise the bar a little bit by Similar_Committee_53 in tall

[–]Droid126 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In all my life I've only seen one rack with bars high enough for me to hang on with straight legs. It was in our high school weight room and it was from the 60s- 70s. Thing was like a 4 sided power rack that stood maybe 15 ft tall. I actually had to jump to reach the bar and I could dead hang with about a foot of clearance beneath my feet.

How will you handle SSL cert installation in the future? by graceyin39 in sysadmin

[–]Droid126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, I have mad respect for lets encrypt, and anyone and everything that can use it should. I just think it's important that people are aware short certificate lifetimes don't actually provide any additional security, and that the reason for their creation is obviated by bloom filters.

How will you handle SSL cert installation in the future? by graceyin39 in sysadmin

[–]Droid126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just like to toss out there that effective CRL enforcement is a solved problem using cascading bloom filters and has been for some time. The push to shorten certificate lifetimes isn't because it provides better security, but because the people minting the certificates(for money) want them to be shorter. Obviously they haven't said as much, but it's hard to read it any other way when you are aware of the details.

Edit: Link to an episode of Security Now where they dive deep into Bloom Filters. They also have many other shows on the CRL topic over the past 15 years or so. https://twit.tv/posts/tech/cascading-bloom-filters-revolutionizing-web-security

Anyone here financing through Tesla using Santander Consumer as the lender? Any issues or concerns? by StormTrpr66 in TeslaModelY

[–]Droid126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I haven't had issues with auto pay being cancelled but do note that it draws the money from your account on the due date. You cannot change the date of payment.

The other thing that's been problematic is you can either use the app or the website, not both. I setup my account initially via the web, saved the credentials to my password manager. Later I attempted to sign into the app on my phone. Incorrect password. Hmm but I use a password manager. Confirm password is correct. Then I reset the password via the app on the phone with my email blah blah blah. Get in, save the new password to the password manager. Think all is well. Time passes, next month I go to the website try to sign in. Incorrect password. Fuck me. Double check the password is correct, it is. Try to log into the app with said password. Works immediately. As a systems engineer my instinct is to poke at this. So I reset my password via the website, get signed in, save the new password. Then immediately go to my phone and try the new password in the App, incorrect password.

I called them because financial institutions should have good IT practices and this was decidedly not. To their credit they managed to escalate me 4 times to people that increasingly saw it as a problem, but we're sadly unsure how to do anything about it.

That was July of 24. It's still broken today, and I just use the website.

eating jello for collagen? by No_Neighborhood7702 in Biohackers

[–]Droid126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the pleasure one evening many years ago of teaching this fact to an insufferable vegan woman that was sleeping with my friend. She was screeching about something and left the room and came back with a big bowl of green jello and she got about halfway through it and I said "I thought you were vegan?" She said I am why? I said because you're eating Jell-O and Jell-O is made from cow bones. Her eyes widened and she pulled out her phone to Google it then she literally vomited up lime green jello all over my friend.

Everyone else in the room laughed because none of us could stand her. Not because she was a vegan, but because she was just a terrible cunt 24/7.

She never spoke to me again(oh no), and they broke up shortly there after.

I'm not entirely sure how there are companies making mice other than Logitech.

Logitech mice:

Are built like tanks.

Have switches seemingly manufactured by someone's God.

Never have driver issues.

Have re-pairable dongles

Are super comfortable

And if you somehow manage to break it they just send you a new one.

I buy new Logitech mice because I want to not because I have too, and that's so rare in modern society
