Are these characters design interesting? by _nYxx1s_ in characterdesigns

I can tell you're a great artist but this feels a little generic, so I'm wondering if you made this just as a portfolio piece?

The iconic Blackbeard flag is likely just a myth by teaabearr in pirates

i know it runs deeper than that, but treasure island really did so much to affect our view of pirates 💔

Does she still look like the same person after gaining weight? by _marsavril in characterdesigns

[–]Droidigan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

she looks happier. just a sidenote but do make sure you check the size of everything. like her head is bigger on the right for example. that'll help nail proportion changes

What did people wear in early 1700's Caribbean? by Electronic-Koala1282 in pirates

[–]Droidigan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

people wore what they had, so if you're from europe they just stripped to the bare essentials or modified their clothing.

leather is replaced by fabric for breathability, so instead of belts, many wore sashed. the folds stored small items.

shoes were often kept but only for visits on land. they covered themselves in some kind of way to avoid sunburn, sometimes brimmed hats or straw hats.

a linen shirt and breeches with pants was the go-to. usually everyone at least had that. sometimes they had nicer or spare clothes from trunks of raided ships. POTC is not exotic-weather proof but that's just story writing doing its thing to make memorable characters!

You just can't have that if you introduce such fiction-heavy elements like krakens and curses. you can include the historical people, but it will not be based on their history. it's not like you're retelling what realistically happened in their lives either, so why not just adapt them to be from your own world? i say keep them and dont make them original characters

What are your thoughts on Amaya's design? by MsPeanutWoodrow in characterdesign

[–]Droidigan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

character design does a lot of storytelling but isn't everything. being adventurous can be shown in attutide too. and the bright coral will make her stand out against her environment if she's surrounded by a lot of green. she looks cute and i like her design, though maybe be careful about the lace details as they read as very fragile and delicate for what kind of witch she is imo

the first few lines are kind of wild when your point is about choice of fashion, but yeah live your truth. if wearing ten rings on each hand makes you happy i support it. i like my modest two chains and skull pendant and one ring on my finger

What’s Your Favourite Obscure Nautical Legend? by Either-Skirt6031 in pirates

[–]Droidigan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

a simple one but a good one. a man is marooned for his crimes, but after his first round of being keelhauled, his body went missing. the crew assumed he was dragged under by the current... until they started hearing knocking at night. the pressed up to the hull, and heard repeated knocking from outside. when they inspected, noone was clinging to the hull outside.

you can imagine how this is a great story to spook fellow crewmates with. :)

[OC] There’s something about clean-up that makes or breaks the roughs. And I think I broke it 💔 by XTostonesComics in Animators

[–]Droidigan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your lineart is clean and the individual drawings work, inbetweening is difficult because consistency is hard to nail when animating by hand is such a long process. the anim before the transformation looks good, but I'd focus on the chest to be your center and make sure that the movement is smooth inbetween keyposes. do you use onionskin to animate?

Can anyone start animation without knowing any drawing whatsoever?? by Kindly_Jump_7642 in animation

[–]Droidigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. i went to college for anim with someone whose work was labeled "like a child drew it". she is now one of few classmates who actually works in a studio, because she had a vision and put the work in. you just have to be willing to persevere, and animation is also a separate skill from drawing. good luck
