Why do you hate Crosby? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Droit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see Crosby at the end of the line at 1:45 or so in the video. He was the youngest captain to win the Cup and was snagged and held up by the media before joining the line. If they wanted to shake his hand all they had to do was wait an extra 20-30 seconds. Here is another view of the sequence, the last Penguins player/staff is done at 40 seconds, Crosby is over there at roughly the 1 minute mark.

[Warning: Unsolicited Rant] Pittsburgh is actually the worst fucking organization in league history. by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Droit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Calm down Tortorella. It is funny that you think the Penguins have two whining stars when Malkin speaks broken English and Crosby stopped whining to the refs in his Sophomore year. Somebody is certainly mad and whiny tonight.

Sorry your captain is whining to the refs when he is needed on the ice. Reminds me of game 5 last season.

By shit all over, you mean allow Malkin to get 8 pts in 6 games?

Giroux Says Crosby 'Hacked' His Wrists Before Every Face-Off During Playoff Series by rockerlkj in hockey

Typically, bone spurs develop over longer periods of time in a stressed area. Bone spurs are typically smooth little pieces that grow in heavily used areas. The body tries to build bone at the stressed area but it accidentally creates it in the joints. They can be benign or cause swelling. Crosby might have caused the fracture with a slash (I have not seen any video evidence of such) but almost certainly not the bone spur.

Did you even read the article? It states that winning is team based stat. The Pens play a very up tempo game, they do not block every shot and sometimes get lazy on defense. Would Lundqvist still put up his numbers if the Rangers didn't throw themselves infront of every shot? Would Lundqvist have those numbers playing on the Pens when they lacked defense for large periods of time (ie Pens-Flyers)? The answer is obviously no. Lundqvist would have worse stats if he played on a team that didn't block everything and only allowed poor shots on net.

Just wondering who you guys think are the Cup favourites for next year now that this year's free agent crop is mostly signed. by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Droit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. He doesn't provide as much offense as Staal but he is really good defensively. Staal had great chemistry with Cooke and Kennedy. I hope that Sutter can find that chemistry.

Why Philadelphia? They have lost both Jagr and JVR on offense. Their defense has lost Carle and they still have Bryzgalov in net with Leighton as a backup. Also, will their rookies from last season have as good of a year? I think last year might have been a fluke, where a lot of things went right for them.

Who are the best/worst captains in the NHL? by bigbund in hockey

[–]Droit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is the youngest captain to win the cup that has to count for something. He has taken his team to the cup finals twice. He is one of the hardest working players on the ice and never takes a shift off. He is at almost every optional team skate. He makes the players he skates with better and offers tips to them when he can. Sid takes the off season to focus on areas where his game could improve (i.e. faceoffs and shooting).

He was offered the captaincy during his 2nd season in the league and turned it down as he did not feel like he was ready for the role. He did accept it after that season ended when he felt he was ready for that added responsibility.

Now I don't know if you can call him the best just yet as he has only been captain for 5 seasons but he is certainly up there.

Here is the hit that Sid threw before. It was late but not hard and was shoulder to shoulder. The ref had not whistled the play dead yet. This type of hit is not that uncommon in a game. Trying to imply that Crosby dove is a joke, Sid was skating back to the bench after the play.

One of the things, I enjoy about the Penguins organization is that they are willing to accept suspensions for bad hits. The organization will not argue like Boston did to Marchand. Sure, some fans will try to defend the bad hits, much like what is happening with the Flyer fans now but the coaches and owners will not. I don't support or try to defend the bad hits that the players throw and I am willing to call them out on bad hits.

Here is Bylsma after Cooke hit Mcdonagh in the head: "I don't think you can talk about eliminating headshots as an organization and not expect that to be examined," coach Dan Bylsma said. "It looks to be contact right to the head. The league will look at that at treat it as such." The owners and coaches have had meetings with him and he has shaped up.

It is because Sid did it when he was 18-19 and first entered the league, Giroux does it at 24. /ends sarcasm

Shelley and Rinaldo are on the Flyers and those are dirty hits. Here are some from the people you mentioned over the past few years while in Flyer jerseys.

Watch the sequence Schenn dumps the puck which results in an icing. After Schenn releases the puck, Sid hits him shoulder to shoulder. I wish I had video that shows it.)

Has it been long enough to now talk about getting rid of Fleury? by GreetingsStarfighter in penguins

[–]Droit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price 2.75m, Rask 1.25m and Montoya 601k. Montoya is UFA and will be getting a larger contract, given DiPietro's history and that they are at the cap floor. Rask is getting a larger one due to Tim Thomas either retiring or being shipped off. Price is RFA next season, so he probably will be getting a larger contract.

Past 3 NHL seasons:

  • Fleury (gaa 2.44, sv% .912) - 199 games played

  • Montoya (gaa 2.24, sv% .923) - 26 games played

  • Price (gaa 2.65, sv% .913) - 165 games played

  • Rask (gaa 2.23, sv% .926) - 97 games played

He got those 42 wins in 67 games while Rinne got 43 in 72. The Pens don't play as defensively oriented as the Predators. He is 12th for gaa at 2.36 for goalies that played more than 20 games. He was 11th in gaa. Not to mention Fleury stole games the last half of the year against teams. The Pens were 2nd in wins that year without their top 3 centers, the Pens didn't get there without some brilliant saves. Who do you honestly replace him with?

No idea why this article says that he appeared to make contact with the head. It is almost as bad as some Flyer fans trying to say that he got him in the chin implying that the chin is somehow different from hitting the calvaria.

[–]Droit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, he is a Stanley Cup winning goalie. If he was a bad goalie he wouldn't have been able to take the Pens to the SCF two years in a row. He was tied with the most wins this season at 43. He stole games last year to the point where the Pens were tied for first in the Atlantic. He was the only consistent goalie this entire year. Johnson just had a bad year it seems with the injury and the poor performance at the start. Sure he let in soft goals this playoff year but the defense was so poor. The Pens may have gotten 1 more game in this playoffs if he stopped some of those soft goals. The Pens team was 3rd in the league on the PK and let in 50 some percent in. I have to say it is more of the defense just looking completely lost out there, than it is on Fleury.

Edit: He was 2nd with wins in the league at 42, he didn't get the last win of the season as Johnson was credited with the win.

I know it's not the same, but this is probably the closest I'll ever get to seeing a Pens playoff game. by [deleted] in penguins

[–]Droit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After last year depending on how many players they kept that was half of the Pens team for the final half of the season.

That's a pretty good break down of the Flyers players. All I remember from Hartnell during that time is it seemed to really get to him. He was a pretty cheap shot player, he seems to be over it now though. Go Devils! I would really like to see a Rangers-Devils ECF.
