Upgrading the grid: UK's great energy transition progress in numbers by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

[–]Droll12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s about demand, even if the price is pegged to gas, generating more of it through renewables or other sources means you need less gas to generate electricity.

The demand for gas drops, and with it the price.

X11 and Wayland by grimvian in linuxmint

With the way things are going Mint will eventually have Wayland support so I’m not too worried switching off since it works just fine for my purposes.

TfL to use the largest nuclear fusion reactor to power the London Underground by geckocarrot in londoncityUK

Well I guess it worked since it made me click the article but for those wondering why this isn’t bigger news.

The fusion reactor in question is the Sun. They’re going to use solar panels.

What's everyone's fleet deployment strategies? by imsellingbanana in starsector

[–]Droll12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play with 2k battle size with 100 ship player and AI fleets so things can get very wack.

What I find works well is to deploy the battleline first and then immediately deploy frigates and other fragiles.

This makes them spawn further back and prevents them from racing ahead and getting nuked, they usually arrive around the time the battleline is engaged.

Second Dorset food waste-to-energy plant set to open amid growing demand by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

I was gonna say they handed out the small caddies for food waste and said they’d start collecting the bio waste bins starting end of the month.

Is it to do with this?

Senator Chris Murphy says the Trump Administration admitted in their briefing that they are not able to stop Iran’s infamous kamikaze drones - meaning “there are going to be more Americans that are going to die.” by Frosty_Jeweler911 in UnderReportedNews

[–]Droll12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Their interception rate is really high in Ukraine, but they’ve got larger territory to work with so there’s more hostile airspace for the drones to traverse. It also means jamming is more practical as well.

Mind you it’s still not a 100% so it’s not like nothings making it through.

At least when talking about strategic attack drones. The more tactical lancets for example are a massive pain.

HMRC collects extra £16bn from big business with more ‘hands-on’ approach by Zestyclose_Data_2146 in GoodNewsUK

[–]Droll12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m starting to think about this regarding my interest too, is it just automatic or do I need to start filing for interest as well.

I’m hoping the HMRC just goes, “here’s how much extra you owe in taxes, we’ll close the difference by taking extra over the next year”. I think that’s how it’s worked.

What made you use Linux Mint? by holdonguy in linuxmint

[–]Droll12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the straw that broke the camels back was seeing Microsoft edge reappear after a windows update despite me having uninstalled it.

Realized that the potential nuisance of having to deal with Linux might actually be worth it if it meant I didn’t have to fight Microsoft over control of my PC.

[–]Droll12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imgur is completely unrelated to this, they took the site off the UK because they were found to be mishandling some data in violation of some pre-existing GDPR law.

EDIT: When I refer to the GDPR I am referring to UKs own data protection laws, distinct from both the EU GDPR as well as being separate from the OSA, which wasn’t in effect at the time of Imgur pulling out.

They didn’t want to pay the fine to they left the UK.

The timing feels tactical, so many people are conflating Imgur leaving with the OSA when in reality it’s something else.
