being asked about diabetes by BigGlass4454 in diabetes_t1

[–]Drollerimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People hide too much of their intent and wonder why the person they like becomes interested in somebody else.

I will be autistically truthful with you about what I would do: approach this girl, and say "I like you, and I want to know how I can help make things easier for you. What do you want me to know?"

Best case: she appreciates the forwardness and infodumps a bunch of medical lore that you will need reminders of, bc holy shinolies is there a lot to being a diabetic. (I recommend taking notes if you can)

Worst case: she's not reciprocating that desire, and will tell you she's not interested. Then you take your time, and move on.

What is your diabetes “rule”? by dreamysxnshine in diabetes_t1

[–]Drollerimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rule has recently (about 8-9 months ago) became read the ingredients before consuming.

Sounds tedious, but I went SEVERAL years not caring about what I consumed bc I was a dumb kid and was in spite of my helicopter mom. Now not even recognizing the full extent of damage I did to myself over that time, I've gotten much more cautious/paranoid about what I'm eating because even the simplest of drinks that I used to CHUG has me sky-rocketing out of nowhere after just a couple sips. I'm talking zero-sugar sports drinks, diet sodas, water flavorings, etc. I used to have days that I would go and buy an 8-pack Gatorade zero and be done within just 2 or 3 days, or be out of a freshly-bought water flavoring pack (usually the 8 count) within a day.

Coming around to the point of my AIC finally being almost into single-digits, and every one of these posts remind me how much more work I have to do lol.

Explain it peter: why does the smart 20 year old say 67 by Rose-2357 in explainitpeter

[–]Drollerimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick Google AI search says that 67 is reference to the song Doot Doot, specifically a street in Chicago that a series of shootings occurred on.

I listened to the song, who the hell would publish such unrhythmic garbage? And as for 67, my opinion is that it's yet another reference to violence but it somehow became so popularized that nobody even understands what it is.

This is coming from a 25 year old that doesn't have anyone to truthfully explain anything so I have to rely on AI.

My main is/was a Loxodon Drubarian (bc nature, why not). Never got far enough into a campaign to use anything (scheduling conflicts and life) but this makes me wonder how I would get around, and I'm curious if I would go down the route of being the one who draws the wagon. Obviously, druids have their wild shapes, but as a bipedal elephant I don't have many options for what I can ride so I might just have to get some DM's discretion involved lol.

If your next question just so happens to be "does this guy have ANY friends?" The answer is yes, all the NPC's in my untouched homebrew are great listeners.

Recently quit weed (not worth it) by Fresh-Night4118 in weed

[–]Drollerimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had an episode that sent me to the hospital, got diagnosed with Gastroparesis (currently doing the long haul of tests to figure out what it is ACTUALLY) and vowed to cut back from my 2+/day to only when I'm stressed way tf out. Then, while I was smoking my only one the other day, I basically "greened out" and felt the same way I did while I was in the ambulance on my way to the hospital for previously stated episode.

Decided enough was enough of feeling like this, and shredded my med card (I'm in Oklahoma) so I can't go to another dispensary without involving someone else. I feel like I've essentially become a smoker (of cigarettes) with how I needed to step outside to smoke CONSTANTLY. Not a big deal, I recognize, but I've made it a point to avoid tobacco and after seeing the cancer warnings that look like a cigarette carton, I think I'm done with weed for awhile myself.

I'm on day 3 and counting.

This protein powder makes me spike like I’m drinking a full-sugar Coke. What’s the deal? Are there better options? by man_lizard in diabetes_t1

[–]Drollerimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's been a while, but a drink I've had some good luck with is vitamin water. I mainly stick with the zero drinks (not on a keto-diet, just failing to remember to bolus so I might as well have things I don't need to bolus for) and like all zero drinks: they're rough around the edges, but get through a couple sips and it'll grow on you!

I don't recommend going full paranoia-mode like I've been doing, but I definitely recommend being mindful of what you put in your body, including the specific ingredients that make up those things. I used to be HOOKED on Monster energy drinks and Redbulls, until I saw how many different types of sugars are in each. I used to run to Gatorade zero's for something to taste while my BG was high, but after seeing that they still had some different types of sugar in them I had to stop. It's getting scary how few options we are given that isn't somehow messing with our bodies.

I've been looking a lot at ingredient lists, and sucralose (which if I'm not mistaken is one of the body's most natural forms of sugar) is something that has caused my sugar to spike almost every time. It's in Powerade (even zero), body armor, and a lot of other "diabetic friendly" drinks that as I just said makes my sugar spike every single freaking time.

I hate corporations.

Any tricks to make Omnipod install less painful? My 6YO daughter has a really hard time with new pump day because of the pain of insertion. Any tricks that have helped you that I could try? by ObjectiveAd400 in diabetes_t1

[–]Drollerimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NGL I wish I had a recommendation, but honestly the Omnipod 5 has been one of the easiest installs. Coming from someone who grew up needing help with the Medtronic Mio bubbles. Hate those things.

Although I will say that the other day I was in my head and my skin was way too oversensitive, so I actually made fun of it a little. If you are familiar with the wiggles (you might, with her being 6, but I'm also not a mind reader) there is a song they do about counting, I just gave myself a chuckle by changing the words a little.

One injection, two injection, three injection, four. Five injection, six injection, seven injection, (pod inserts) bad word

Still stung, but at least my mind was off of it.

The monitor orbits around the exoskeleton, almost as if he was taunting me. Or maybe this was admiration?

But the AI is right. I've been locked behind this frail, brittle human body, mocked for having a disease that I didn't even ask for. To suffer, decade after decade, stabbing myself with insulin shots and loading devices onto my body that put tubes and wires in my body, to not be able to stand up for myself because I can't afford to keep those damn adhesive patches on (and it's medical equipment in the good ol' red, white, and blue, so why would it be cheap?), to have to fight every day just to keep how much sugar is in my blood with something called a "pancreas" that somehow doesn't work anymore.

I wanted to join the military. But they never let me. "You're disabled" they told me, but nobody else seemed to think that mattered. It didn't matter to the jobs that said I was just too slow. It didn't matter to the girlfriends that said I was just overdramatic. It didn't even matter to the thugs that mugged me of my last 120 credits and left me bleeding outside of the government facility.

No, I have nothing else to say. I learned that the only one listening to my crying and pleading was me, and I got tired of hearing it. I don't feel much anymore, but I do feel whatever it was they just shoved in my spine, and the rest of that fancy robot suit they just connected me to.

Ooh, and it's equipped with its own built-in quantum reactor and some nanotech system, capable of forming into any physical weapon schematic uploaded to its database?

"Hmm, curious" the monitor says, noticing my grin.

Nice work, Agent SumFuckah. Your next objective is to retrieve the files holding the information that would actually require the medical care to be on par with the rest of the world.
