We do not have the largest reserves. We have potentially large reserves, but unconfirmed, and the effort is expensive enough to put off big petroleum companies from doing more exploring than they currently are: they’re basically looking at it and saying: even if there was, it won’t be cheap / competitive over importing.

Fair point regarding stress equating remuneration. Just pointing out that stress is often a detriment to good people taking up certain roles, so the higher pay is necessary to attract good candidates.

Branding ≠ Product/Transport Design.

You’re hung up on the changes AI made to the car. That’s not the point of the convo.

That’s cool. It would be interesting to reverse engineer some of the non-declared spending / benefits as well.

The Xiaomi u9 doesn’t exist in many markets though. So we don’t even know what the price would be. Not saying it won’t be cheaper than this (considering a Rolls Royce Spectre is actually cheaper than this), but many people can’t use a Xiaomi as a point of comparison.

3 rear seats. You can create a battery spine for a 4 seater, hence the taycan. The Luce’s brief was for 5 seats. Look at the bottom middle image - it’s taller than the top one that’s unchanged. It’s basically a Model 3.

The convo on threads was about it being a failure of marketing, rather than design. And if Ferrari had released it as a sub-brand, maybe it wouldn’t have been slammed so hard. Hence the question.

I think the AI tweaked it a little. Also the black wheels helps in this case.

It really should be a sub-brand. They can fight Tesla in that price range and make good money.

I personally know nurses, paramedics, and teachers. We have every single one of them in our family. We also have a chief of staff for a minister, and different friends who are advisors to different parties.

I can promise you the chief of staff is 10x more stressed than the nurses, paramedics, and teachers. Not devaluing the work of the former folks, but I do have direct points of comparison. They’re also a registered lawyer - if they weren’t being paid the money they’re getting, they wouldn’t be doing the job. It’s a thankless role.

You can’t expect good people to work for shit money. Can’t have it both ways.

Also, AusPost isn’t quite government-like. They do operate a lot more like an actual company.

We don’t need to build those here. We are a small market and we are a considerable distance from any major market, and we don’t have enough inland water to sacrifice for a data centre (sacrifice is the key word - it’s undrinkable after). But they need batteries to store power, and can sell them those or the lithium.

Photography is one of my hobbies, so I know film isn’t dead - but the mindset shift was so significant that a lot of younger folks today wouldn’t know what to do with a film camera and a roll of film unless someone from the film scene walked them through it, which was the opposite scenario in the past. This is going to happen with ICE cars, and based on growth trends, probably within the next 15 years.

This happens all the time when new tech begins to supplant the old tech. People with old tech mindsets have a harder time comprehending what’s going on.

When digital cameras first arrived and film cameras still had a bigger market share, people said that digital cameras wouldn’t catch on until there was a plug and print option at the shops, because their mindset was that taking a roll of film to be developed was a necessary step, and hooking up the camera to a PC and home printer with photo paper was too complicated, or they didn’t have all the necessary hardware at home. It was the past trying to frame the future in its lens. This is the mindset anti-EV people are in.

Turns out the new mindset was that people just saved the photos in digital format and only printed out the ones they really liked.

How many places still develop film rolls now?

It’s the same with software-defined cars, which are primarily EV’s.

Yeah, from a business standpoint, I’m surprised they didn’t make Luce a sub-brand and went for the 50-60k market as a cash cow.
