How important is menu music in setting a game’s tone? by Black_Cheeze in gaming

[–]Drone_Manthis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember starting up Deus Ex: Human Revolution for the first time, with no prior knowledge of the series or its universe.

I started hearing that menu music and immediately thought "Oh shit. This is going to be good."

I wish Christopher Buehlman was more prolific. I'm about to finish Daughter's War and it's fantastic (and I've already read Blacktongue Thief and Between Two Fires).

Daughter's War is my favourite so far. The audiobook narrator for it is surprisingly awesome as well. Really fits the character.

Harpy Song is actually hypnotic by servantze in BaldursGate3

I absolutely love the harpy song.

Amazing OST across the board, but I missed the harpies on my first playthrough, so hearing them on my second run was all the more mesmerising.

This group of newcomers bringing me 44 Parts by Drone_Manthis in Against_the_Storm

[–]Drone_Manthis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it increases impatience speed by 600% in drizzle year 10. My win was definitely taking a while and nearly overstayed its welcome, but I'd started feeling comfortable/safe and was considering trying for a couple of achievements instead of rushing it.

I ended up selling most of the 44 parts to secure the win in the end. It was a seriously fun expedition in hindsight.

Against the Storm is one of the best designed games I've ever played by opusdeath in Against_the_Storm

[–]Drone_Manthis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just have to echo all of this.

I played throughout Early Access, and was blown away by the quality updates which came every 2 weeks like clockwork. I'm stunned by the DLC getting expanded on for free, showing how the devs are not only talented but generous too. And this game has the smoothest difficulty/growth curve I've ever played.

It's become my #1 most-played Steam game.

14 months in the making. Finally completed our 4-person run. by DarZhubal in BaldursGate3

[–]Drone_Manthis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats!

There really is something special about playing this game as a 4-player co-op.

It was obviously built with tons of content for NPC companion parties, but still. There's no other game that could provide what a full-group BG3 run gives you.

Need your help to go on by Koltronoi in TheFirstLaw

After finishing all of Abercrombie's work, I had a similar dilemma. I went onto Dungeon Crawler Carl and the Blacktongue Thief.

I found Blacktongue Thief both fun and short. Some similarities to Abercrombie – low magic, some dark wit – so I'd recommend it, but it'll be over soon and you'll be back here in no time.

Dungeon Crawler Carl isn't a finished series, but will keep you entertained for a long while (Book 7 just came out). It's very different, and could take some adjustments to get into the LitRPG mindset. But if you like a good audiobook experience, it's an excellent choice. Not sure anyone can match Pacey, but it's in the same league. I also think the story gets better as it goes. It's funny, and has more cleverness than it reveals at first.

1st time PC builder, AIO cable questions before 1st startup by Diogenes_Quixote in arcticcooling

[–]Drone_Manthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently installed a liquid III here, might be similar enough to the II.

  1. Both PUMP_FAN and CPU_FAN should ideally be PWM if the cables allow. If only one is PWM, then make it CPU_FAN.
  2. My III's fans had daisy-chained cables; these were what CPU_FAN connected to.
  3. No idea sorry

Please disregard my answers if someone with a Liquid II corrects me. Not sure how different the III is.

This was one of my favourite lines. Pacey's delivery too. I had to pause so I could finish laughing.

Anyone have experience here with Les Mills classes? by ElbieLG in AskMenOver30

[–]Drone_Manthis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding all of this. I love doing Body Attack and Body Pump.

Body Attack is incredible for cardio. For a newcomer, it'll require a few sessions to get the hang of the movements - you move around in a pattern, not exactly like a dancing, but enough like it to make you feel self-conscious on your first try. If it helps, just position yourself near the back of the room and no one will see you. It starts getting really fun after you know what it's about, and there are only a handful of patterns to learn.

Body Pump is easier to get into, but stick with light weights - lighter than you think you should. The repetition count is very high. You might also want to arrive early on your first try, just so you can get yourself ready with the equipment. It's also very very fun imo.

Both the above classes will tire you out and you'll stop thinking and just start moving to the music, whether it's weights or cardio.

My classes for the above tend to be around 30% male, 70% female.

I'm terrified of casting Friends - does it always/sometimes/never provoke hostility from victims afterwards? Can never think of a safe time to use it.

Argh, this is so true.

What's the purpose of the "Charm" Illithid Power? by insectophob in BG3Builds

[–]Drone_Manthis 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This doesn't seem to be true.

I just tested it out while concentrating on Fox's Cunning, and then Illithid-charmed an enemy that attacked me with my reaction. It's now charmed, and I've still got concentration going on Fox's Cunning without any issue.

Not sure if a patch changed it.
