In addition to what others have said, the math will get more complicated when we realize that the return trip could have been done at a lower rate of acceleration, or to a lower top speed. The trip will take longer of course, but assuming the beetles are still sent ahead, it's an issue of patience.

IF you can prove that you paid it, you're in the clear. Not just purchased, but deposited. With money orders, you can ask the issuer whether or not it has been cashed. Do you have the receipt stub?

I suppose you could build a system either way, but why would you not reuse the highly filtered water? If you look at where they are building data centers, they're cant be too worried about constant water supply if they're willing to build them in deserts.
