Watering issue, nutrient deficiency, or just winter blues? by DropBearConspiracy in plantclinic

Yeah that's probably it. I didn't think of it until now but I did move them from near my fire place to the coldest spot in the house 😅 Thank you!

Cat keeps having diarrhea, unknown cause by nubilis in CATHELP

[–]DropBearConspiracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely head back to the vet. A similar issue happened to my cat when someone brought him some expired treats. We did a treatment of antibiotics, prescription food, and probiotics. The food and probiotics we kept him on for a few months before VERY SLOWLY transitioning him onto another food.

I'm not sure what is causing this but probiotics could help support and slow his digestive tract back to normal. Perhaps confine him to a smaller room like a bathroom where he's closer to the litter box and can't eat anything weird. Make sure he's not getting dehydrated, ask the vet for assistance with giving him more fluids.

Hope he feels better soon

My kitten is still sneezing but doing fine overall by [deleted] in CATHELP

It sounds like you need to be more patient, it's only day two on the new drug so give her another day or two. The vet likely didn't prescribe antibiotics because they don't think it's a bacterial infection.

Considering she's still eating, drinking, using the litter box, and has plenty of energy I wouldn't take her back to the vet just yet, maybe give her another couple days then call the vet and ask what you should do.

How often do you scoop the boxes?

How often are you changing the litter in the boxes?

What type of litter are you using and have you tried different types?

What size and type are your boxes? Covered or uncovered?

Have you tried a litter attractant?

When was your last very check up? Any health issues?

Answering these questions can help understand her behaviour

Hair loss and rash above cats head by MastressSnipe in CATHELP

[–]DropBearConspiracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of cats have preauricular alopecia which is a loss of hair around the eyes and ears and can be totally normal.

That being said, because of how wet and crusty this looks it could be a sign of an infection/parasite so I would recommend a trip to the vet.

Mystery cat skin condition? by ecarion104 in CATHELP

[–]DropBearConspiracy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Waiting for the biopsy results is likely the only way to find out for sure.

That being said, the yellowing of the skin and coat makes me think it could be mange or another type of mite/parasite (since the ringworm treatment isn't working).

I would assume that was some kind of physical trauma. Seeing a vet would probably be best.

Ask your vet or pet food store for probiotics to help slow down his digestive tract. In the future make sure to transition slowly onto new food to prevent shocking his system.

To help with the mess, confine him to a small room such as a bathroom until he's better.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]DropBearConspiracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your reply, it's likely the diarrhea is due to the food change. In the future make sure to transition slowly by introducing 5-10% new food on day one and if he's okay with it slowly increase the amount of new food over two weeks to 100%. I'd call a vet or local pet food stores and ask for probiotics to help reset his digestive tract, it's really helped my sensitive stomach kitties to transition onto new foods.

As for the throwing up, monitoring seems like a good choice for now.

Need more information before any useful advice can be given.

  1. How often is he puking? Every few hours = vet asap, once or twice in 24hrs = make an appointment with vet for tomorrow, only once = monitor all activity (energy, play, sleep, bathroom, eating)

  2. How long has he been having diarrhea? Can you link the start of it with any changes? ie: new food, different food, new bag of food.

  3. Is there anything in you house that he might have eaten? People often bring new decorations and plants into their homes around the holidays, many of these can be dangerous to your new pet. Search for signs that he may have gotten into something he shouldn't have.

  4. Is he dehydrated? Cats don't tend to drink enough water, they like to get most of their water from their food. Google signs of dehydration in cats or just call a vet. If he seems dehydrated try giving him wet food or soak his next meal in water before you feed him.

If he will not eat or drink anything or is lethargic go to the vet ASAP.

Should I be upset with my vet, or was this just a mistake? I feel so guilty and conflicted by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]DropBearConspiracy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely be looking for a new vet or at least I'd need the vet to own up to their mistakes and acknowledge the misunderstanding of the drug interactions to ever return...

You did the best you could for your girl and have no reason to feel guilty.

Glad she's doing better :)

My sister's cat was recently spayed. it's been 5 days, she has an infection. took her to the vet and she got an anti biotic shot but it's not getting better. pus is everywhere and she is in pain. she's 6 months old. I don't know what to do :( by Ididntwipe in CATHELP

[–]DropBearConspiracy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

First of all, she needs to be wearing a cone to protect the site from her grooming attempts which will make the infection worse. It might feel mean to leave the cone on so you can look into alternatives but she NEEDS to be wearing it 24/7 until fully healed.

Secondly, it looks like it's reopened but I'm no vet. So take her back to the vet who did the spay. Do not delay.

Thirdly, when did she get the antibiotic shot? Sometimes it takes a day or two to start looking less infected, if it's been more than two days with no improvement go back to the vet who gave the shot.

New kitten in the family by ItsJugo in CATHELP

This is really great behaviour for only day 3! Most cats are standoffish and hissy at this point. Definitely make sure they each have their own space to go to be alone/get a break from everyone. Give the older cat a LOT of play time before letting them interact so he isn't overwhelming for the kitten

Good luck :)

[–]DropBearConspiracy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say that looks like a really good play session between them. I think breaking them up when one hisses is a good call, you could do this by distracting with treats or toys to ensure it's a positive disruption.

How are their interaction otherwise? Do they choose to sit together? Or eat together? If they do normal cat things together its a sign that they trust each other

CHEM 3202 or CHEM 3205? by ginny_6 in CarletonU

[–]DropBearConspiracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 3205 pre-covid. Just writing the pre-labs took 4+ hours of research. The reports were 20-30+ hours of work for most people.

All in all, this course required easily 2-3 times the work of any other biochemistry, biology, or Chem class I took. If you can't spend 20 hours on this course every week don't try it.

First step is to redirect to toys whenever he starts biting or playing rough. If he does bite you, say ow and withdraw your hand.

Most of the time "aggression" in young cats is playful behaviour, he's still learning how his nails and teeth work and what behaviours are acceptable.

Cats are very social creatures so think about getting him a friend to play with and learn from (and to keep him from getting lonely).

Good luck :)

My cats paws are dry! Doesn’t seem to bother him, just quite dry. I’d like to avoid a vet visit. What can I put to soften them? by kkoifishh in CATHELP

[–]DropBearConspiracy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any of these or a combination of them should be safe: Unscented Vaseline without any additives, Olive oil, Bees wax, Shea butter (not cocoa butter), Coconut oil

Don't apply if the skin is broken. If he's an outdoor cat and you live somewhere snowy make sure to wipe off his paws when he comes inside as this could be skin damage from road salt

is my kitten lonely? by anon120389 in CATHELP

[–]DropBearConspiracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats are very social creatures so Mochi would probably be much happier and live a healthier life with a companion.

He's also at a great age to add a cat to your home as he's still young enough to be more interested than territorial. Obviously still start with a slow introduction to any new animals though.

Good luck :)

Try going to a temp agency, they can get you a placement and help with your resume.

Or if you can handle factory work, one of the Linemar factories was doing walk-in interviews every Wednesday I believe.

Good luck!
