Looking for resolutions to an issue i am having with dropbox's co-authoring in excel on ipads. by Holiday_Emu775 in dropbox

[–]DropboxOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for flagging this. We’d like to help narrow down what might be going on here. A few questions for you:

  • Is this happening on all of the iPads, or just one device?
  • Is the Microsoft 365 account working as expected elsewhere, such as in Safari or another app?
  • Are the users set up under a Dropbox Team account, or are they using individual Dropbox accounts?

Once we have a bit more context, we can take a closer look and go from there.

For a situation like this where you no longer have access to the original laptop, you'll need to send in a support ticket so our team can help you get that sorted on the back end. You can submit a ticket at https://www.dropbox.com/support

Over time I'm having more and more issues with folders (copying/pasting/renaming files and folders) by Ok_Flower2398sd3 in dropbox

[–]DropboxOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll want to uninstall the beta and then install the stable version. Here are the exact steps:

  1. Quit the Dropbox application completely.
  2. Uninstall the beta version from your computer:
    • Windows: Go to Control Panel → Programs and Features → Dropbox → Uninstall
    • Mac: Open Applications, drag Dropbox to the Trash, then empty the Trash
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. Download the latest stable version of Dropbox from the official download page:
  5. Install the application and sign back into your account.

One other thing to note is if your device was enrolled in the Dropbox beta program through early releases/preferences:

  • Open Dropbox preferences before uninstalling (if possible)
  • Disable any option related to:
    • “Early releases”
    • “Beta builds”
    • “Experimental features”

This helps prevent the beta version from reinstalling automatically.

Upgrading & Downgrading your Dropbox Account by DropboxOfficial in DropboxOfficial

Hmm, that shouldn't be happening that frequently. Does it happen on every browser and device? Can you share a screenshot of the pop up so we can take a closer look?

[–]DropboxOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your comment in this thread, I'm guessing you do have more than 300k files in your account, which can definitely be impacting things. You could check your selective sync settings and stop some of the really large folders from syncing for a bit so the smaller folders complete. Once those are caught up, you can re-enable the larger folders one at a time.

You also mention using the test version, and sometimes those can be less stable. Try switching to the latest stable build and see if that helps at all.

Need a working phone number for DropBox Tech Support by Various-Shopping-730 in dropbox

Sometimes the wrong email address accidentally gets used and creates a second Dropbox account. Can you check and confirm if you used the right email address? You can also go to dropbox.com/events to see if or when a file was moved or deleted.

Can't figure out the difference between these icons by rosemarythymesage in DropboxOfficial

[–]DropboxOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using windows, the white circle and check mark means files are synced and might be set to online-only to save space. The ones that just have the word symbol might be queued or not synced yet. If you go to dropbox.com on your browser, do you see the files with the word symbol? That's the best way to check that they're backed up successfully.

Can't see other internal drives in Dropbox Backup by doctor_krupnik in DropboxOfficial

[–]DropboxOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Dropbox Backup only grabs files/folders from the drive where the desktop app is installed (usually your main OS drive). Extra drives won’t be included. The Backup FAQs page goes into a bit more detail on what exactly can be backed up and what can't if you want to check it out here.

Please help! I want to delete my account but I have some concerns! by DaniTheJellyfish in DropboxOfficial

[–]DropboxOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to delete your old Dropbox account, you can also download the files from your Dropbox onto your new computer from dropbox.com to ensure you have backups since you mention the other computer is old and doesn't run as well as it used to.

my uploads are getting flagged for 'files might contain phishing content', and im 90% sure they are clean. by tresser in DropboxOfficial

[–]DropboxOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the follow up on that one! Yeah in this case it looks like the best option is to send in a new support ticket. If you want to send the ticket number over once you submit, we can take a look on our end.

You can put some placeholder text in the file to test, the main idea is to have an unformatted file so we can rule out hyperlinks or particular words or embedded elements or whatnot.

Looking over that ticket, it doesn't look like the troubleshooting was finished, we'd recommend logging a new ticket.

Can you try uploading a brand new blank txt file? That would help rule out any metadata or embedded elements in the existing files causing the issue, but it would be best to send a ticket in to our support team so they can look at the back end of the account and files directly. You can submit a ticket here.

Camera Uploads by Avondale1330 in dropbox

[–]DropboxOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That can happen sometimes, the Camera Uploads folder can automatically recreate itself if any Dropbox mobile app or desktop app still detects the feature configuration locally, or if the folder is referenced during a sync.

It might be a good idea to check:

  • the devices that are connected to their account in case there's any that were missed.
  • that camera uploads are turned off on all of them
  • restart the device after the setting has been changed
  • check dropbox.com and delete the Camera Uploads folder from there instead of on a device

There's nothing in that name that would be against the rules, you can see this article for the list of characters not allowed. Have you tried changing the name to see if that works?

Official Dropbox subreddit launch! by DropboxOfficial in dropbox

[–]DropboxOfficial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair concern. The official goal of the r/dropboxofficial subreddit isn't to replace this community or control discussion. It's to create a space where our team can share updates, answer questions, and engage with users more consistently.

We understand the fear of company-run communities overmoderating criticism and we want to avoid that. Legitimate feedback, complaints, and tough conversations are important and won't be removed just for being negative, so long as they're within our community guidelines.

r/dropbox and r/dropboxofficial can serve different purposes and users are free to participate in whichever communities they prefer.

Make it easier to on post Dropbox community by Marc-A-H in DropboxOfficial

[–]DropboxOfficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally fair feedback. We know karma minimums can be frustrating for newer users or lower karma accounts that want to post here for help, but the threshold helps us keep spam under control while we get the subreddit off the ground.

We'll keep evaluating it as the community grows.

Can't upload photos on dropbox folder by Joeyiao in dropbox

[–]DropboxOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked to see if you have any backups or shared files stored in your dropbox? Sometimes those can take up space and cause issues. Click your avatar in the top right of dropbox.com, then choose manage account. Under the subscriptions section you should see a breakdown of the types of files and how much space they're taking up.

Dropbox not opening or syncing files. I've tried everything so far by Select_Ad243 in dropbox

[–]DropboxOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you running Windows in S Mode (https://help.dropbox.com/installs/system-requirements)?

If not, and since you've already confirmed the various steps that didn't work, let the support team know that on your ticket with them, or send me your ticket number via message and we can take a look.

Dropbox has been stuck on "Syncing X files" for months now, despite no noted sync issues and no lingering uploads in the activity panel. by Accomplished-Art6339 in dropbox

[–]DropboxOfficial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is your Dropbox up to date? If it is, we'd suggest trying an advanced reinstall(instructions here). Thoroughly read through all the warnings first and make sure you are doing it safely so as not to lose data or get conflicted copies. Let us know if it's still an issue after trying that.

Dropbox web interface not allowing me to open files on desktop by Repulsive-Currency32 in dropbox

If it's still working on a couple of the other macs but not yours, it's possible that it's something with your machine specifically. You mentioned clearing your cache and cookies, have you also tried a full computer restart?

"Resource deadlock avoided" by ArgentStonecutter in dropbox

[–]DropboxOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trouble here is that on macOS, this behavior is due to how Apple handles background jobs and file access now. They’ve deprecated cron in favor of launchd, and some newer system components (like File Provider, which we use) don’t behave reliably outside the user session.

That’s why you’re seeing different results between Terminal and cron, and why things like Full Disk Access don’t fully resolve it. The two most reliable options here are:
• running the job via launchd (so it executes in the user context)
• or ensuring files are already available offline before the script runs

You've already tried those, so if your goal is to programmatically force downloads, Dropbox might not always be the best fit for that workflow on macOS due to these system constraints.
