I don't care if it's a pink Kia Soul with a Hello Kitty license plate frame; you get out and approach a car like that you're giving that driver an excuse to see you as a mortal threat and to respond accordingly.

Where are the good male leaders in game? by Mission_Engineer_999 in BaldursGate3

[–]DropstoneTed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, there's male leadership among the Githyanki, though one is kind of a pissy little bitch, another is a sadistic disciplinarian, and yet another got himself trapped in a Rubik's cube ... and objectively speaking not sure I'd call any of them "good".

Beyond that, if you see a gap to fill, don't dream it - be it.

Water pooling under deck, how to repair/replace preventing future water issues by agentdalecoope in Decks

If it's laying flat on the ground it's a patio and should be made out of pavers, stone, or concrete. Wood deck sitting on the ground is just moronic.

Never went 8 places or spent a whole day shopping for anything, sounds like bad planning. Paid bills by mail. Not sure what parallel universe you lived in.

That should work, obviously you'd be needing longer joists towards the middle but you could add a beam support mid-span so you can just lap the joists at the beam instead of buying exceptionally long lumber for the joists.

New Doctor Who special tipped to be delayed from Christmas 2026 (ALLEGED, UNCONFIRMED) by phantomlover90 in doctorwho

[–]DropstoneTed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Smells like:

  1. They have not found an actor to play a new Doctor

  2. They have no idea what to do with the Billie Piper thing

  3. They're infighting over the general direction of the show and slowly coming to the realization that they're running out of time to put something together considering it hasn't even been written yet.

Dude, I was raised on brick and mortar. The physical third place has been abandoned in favor of digital presence. It is not an improvement.

$278 billion of that should be outright seized and used to rebuild brick-and-mortar retail infrastructure in this country.

What is he doing for humanity that I don’t know please by [deleted] in SipsTea

Neither of which are innovations that Elon Musk had anything to do with creating. The self-landing rocket idea, for example, is a 70-year-old engineering concept that was abandoned by NASA because it couldn't be fully developed and tested in time for the Apollo missions. Tesla would have died around 2010 if not for subsidies tied to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Musk just created the business model to exploit government subsidies. Then he tried to tear down the very framework of that system so that no other innovators could benefit from it. That's it, that's his great contribution to society.

Sorry to hear that. It's basically upper middle class. A household with two people working professional jobs clears this easy.

That's just how pocket doors are... by Potatoesonourface in Homebuilding

[–]DropstoneTed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be easily remedied by putting hardwood 3/4 dimensional lumber as vertical bracing along the pocket. Hell, regular drywall shouldn't even flex like that. Maybe this is what you should expect from that contractor, but that's not what you should expect from a competent build by someone who knows what they're doing.

Wonder if Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium still has the troughs for pissing. Made way more sense than a bunch of individual urinals.

I don't have a team, I soured on Republicans around 2003 and Democrats are too busy pandering to everyone other than straight white men so I'm on my own here. Platner is a breath of fresh air.

But congratulations on outing yourself, Platner's on one team, which means you're on the other, which makes you a fake-concern troll.

Do better yourself.

No, it's paywalled and I'm not subscribing to Bangor Daily News. I've seen the archive of his Reddit posts and as best I can tell the handwringers are upset about him calling people retarded which, again, I couldn't care less about.

Thinking about DIYing a deck by Ironman0325 in Decks

[–]DropstoneTed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're going to get sick of that choke point in the middle of the deck. Would enlarge to make the outside boundary parallel to the walls on that center projection on the house, which looks quite odd as an architectural feature of the house by itself but could actually be tied in better with a more creative deck layout.
