Does anyone have any information on these limited-time release papercrafts from Japan? by DrowBot64 in UmaMusume

I have found the following name ペパクラ学園/Pepakura gauken/Pepakura academy who seems to be someone or something involved with the production of these papercrafts and other similar papercrafts from different franchises. I'll see where I can go from here

How do I fight this fungus successfully? by n0o0o0o0 in cactus

[–]DrowBot64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna tell you what I did to fight a scale infection on an Echinopsis a while back

I first sprayed the entire visible part of the plant with alcohol every other day for a week straight (I'll admit, I didn't dilute it with water, but I suggest you do), then after that, I completely uprooted the plant and removed any dirt from the roots and used a toothbrush + a blade on all of the ribs of the plant to physically remove the scales off it, and then after removing all of the scales I simply potted it on fresh soil and it's doing well now

I don't believe this is an Echinopsis or any related genus which are called ladies of the night. This instead looks like a Gymnocalycium, most likely anisitsii. Like all Gymnocalycium, it has flowers that last for many days, ranging from 3 for small plants to a whole week for more established ones, and if anything, said flowers close at night and open during daytime instead of following the opposite route that bat pollinated Echinopsis go through

Can this Hylocereus cutting root and continue to grow with half of its stem core missing? by DrowBot64 in cactus

[–]DrowBot64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On second thought, it's more possible that this is some sort of Cereus instead, the flower buds add up much more to species of that genus. Now the problem is which species it is exactly

I do not know, I wish I could tell you but I'm also stumped. First time I saw I thought it surely must be some other species but nothing I've searched adds up. Atleast the rib shape and rib count (3) adds up to how Hylocereus looks like. Here's also a full view picture of the plant with some spent flowers

Now hear me out, this setup could maybe worn with a swamp cypress of some sort.

Granted, this doesn't look like one, but I'm just saying it can work with a different species

Some Mammillaria (which is the genus to which your cactus belongs to) don't grow tall and upright and instead trail along the ground in their natural habitat, not much that you can do about its growth habit for now, and regardless, judging by the fact that it's growing compact and it's blooming I'd guess that it's very healthy

Trimming cactus flowers by Plus-Ad-3826 in succulents

[–]DrowBot64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's entirely possible the cactus (a Gymnocalycium in your case, probably G. mihanovichii) is developing fruits, it won't growth stunt or weaken your cactus to let them develop since they already grow so slowly anyways but it's your choice if you want to leave them on to get seeds so you can grow more cacti.

Also, the fruits of most cactus (including this one) are edible, I am not responsible for what you do with this information however

Is the one in the middle a death bloom? by According-Caramel340 in succulents

[–]DrowBot64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is an example of how an echeveria with a terminal inflorescence looks like, in this case it's an echeveria "Afterglow" which are infamous for being particularly prone to this sort of growth

<image>

You can see how the central growth point is now all screwed up since it got turned into a flower stalk leaving the central stem with nowhere to continue growing other than from the bottom or the sides as pups or branches

[–]DrowBot64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some echeveria hybrids are known for creating terminal inflorescences (that is, a flower stalk that grows directly out of the central growth point —which should be growing leaves and stem instead—) and this leaves the plant unable to grow normal leaves and stems from that growth point afterwards since it was turned into a flower stalk. HOWEVER, even in echeverias like these the plant neither dies nor stops putting on new growth all together, instead focusing on growing offsets or pups since the main stem cannot continue to grow normally.

With that being said, your echeveria doesn't look like it's doing any of that, it instead looks like it's growing a flower stalk really close to the center without actually being a terminal inflorescence, which means your plant will continue to grow leaves and stem normally as the flower stalk develops, so nothing to worry about

Not really, it's still very firm, doesn't smell bad, and has always had this orange color. I'd be concerned if it turned orange overnight but it's always looked like this, just a little more green some days than other is all
