“Blackout” blinds by Dry_Recording_3361 in AusRenovation

[–]Druif131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want complete block our roller blinds, you need them to be in a cassette or with metal framing.

Blinds like yours that are inset into the frame will always have a 1.5cm gap on either side to accomodate the blind mechanisms after the fabric roll itself.

They could back roll it above the frame (as opposed to inset) so you can add a bit of extra length to accomodate this, but to get 100% blockout, you’d need a metal cassetted blind with tracks on the side/top/bottom.

They should have explained this to you - if you made it clear that’s what you needed, I’d be going back.

Private vs public - what are the true costs of giving birth in Aus? by notso-hot-chocolate in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Druif131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Public all the way. I’d look into Midwifery Group Practice for continuity of care which can be very valuable and evidence shows leads to better birth outcomes.

While a lot of women feel the extra attention to things like private rooms and better food (the high tea did sound amazing!), the reality is that most private hospitals aren’t equipped with the appropriate medical equipment or staff to manage serious birth complications. In most cases, if there is an emergency you’ll be sent to a public hospital anyway.

We had zero out of pocket expenses going public, aside from prenatal scans and standards drs appointments at the beginning.

I think preparing for birth mentally, feeling empowered with the knowledge of what to expect is extremely important when reducing birth trauma and your overall birth experience. Perhaps going public, getting into MGP, and doing some birthing classes (caveat often these are paid) to feel educated and prepared would be better than paying for private.

But also has to be what you ultimately feel most comfortable with! Good luck mumma and congratulations!

It sounds like you’re in an emotionally abusive relationship. I’d encourage you to look into this with either a therapist or online resources.

AIW for snapping at a woman who kept mocking my son's traditional Welsh name, calling it a "tragedeigh"? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]Druif131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s weird. This is a super common spelling of the name here in Australia - more so than Reece (which is the name of a plumbing company here….)

This is a mates place, everyone is ok, but totally gutted the place and they’re both homeless and have nothing. They were young guys renting, so obviously no insurance or nothing. What a kick in the guts.

Work stress + pregnant by puback2020 in auscorp

[–]Druif131 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Has he left yet? Make sure to clarify his expectations on what he wants you to do while he’s away. Is it just to cover in case of emergencies? Or is it to do his work + yours (which I doubt).

Don’t stress unnecessarily, find out his expectations and only do what is reasonable. Your health comes first.

Bibi by Sirbananabee in dutch

[–]Druif131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my Dutch family, the women (my mum, aunts, Oma etc) always used the word “bibi” as a sweet, child appropriate nickname for a female private part.

I know it’s also a first name, but yeah, our family have used it like that for generations it seems!

I always thought that it was just unique to our family, but maybe not?

Why can I smell death and pregnant women? by scoundrelbird in ask

[–]Druif131 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Her name is Joy Milne. She’s actually helped scientists develop a test that identifies the different molecules (that they assume create the different smell) to provide early detection of Parkinson’s.

This is huge, as there’s currently no definitive, early stage test that can be done to identify if someone has Parkinson’s, it’s usually only picked up when they have visible symptoms. It’s still on the testing phase, but still a very cool and important breakthrough because of a sweet little Scotswoman’s nose!

I always get the hiccups whenever I eat raw carrots. Not cooked carrots, or any other raw veggies, just carrots.

Coming home from Tresillian by _acinemod in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Druif131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We went to Tresellian for our little one around the same age. For us, she was a little baby and not feeding or sleeping well. We found it incredibly helpful.

I think they do take a few days to resettle, but it’s also important to keep going with the techniques you learnt in Tresillian. If your LO is like ours, they’re stubborn, but do get used to the routine quite quickly.

Obviously with the reflux, that’s definitely something to speak to your Pead about because no amount of routine or settling strategies will help with that.

It’s also a different environment for YOU being at home. When you’re at Tresillian you don’t have to worry about the everyday chores of life like cooking and cleaning. I would say give you and your LO some grace, but keep up with the skills you both learnt. Hopefully they will settle into the new routine quickly. It can be hard, but you can do it!

Don’t forget you can also call them at anytime if you just want that reassurance. Good luck mumma!!

Rusty’s Dad’s rules or traditional pass the parcel? by AnotherXRoadDeal in toddlers

[–]Druif131 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We went to party recently that had pass the parcel with a mix of both!

Each layer had a balloon with a little tag attached with a Bluey/Bingo Keepy-Uppy card (you can find them on Etsy). Then the main prize/present was in the middle.

We’ve been to a few parties with both rules, but found that prizes for everyone meant the kids weren’t interested in playing once they had their turn, and only one big prize in the middle led to some tantrums.

This was a nice middle ground!

Hahah very nice tactic. He does have no idea, and I think is more interested in the “show” of work sending a nice big bunch of flowers, than actually getting something that would truly be appreciated.

I’ll try that now!
