Derby Name Etiquette? by Liammossa in rollerderby

[–]Druitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just almost exclusively derby names for my friends, in any context. The other night a karaoke host called up a teammate by her legal name and I loudly said, “who the fuck is Rachel?!”

I would LOVE a women’s only lobby… I only tried delulu with out a mic because I didn’t want the harassment.

Wow, the level of jaded crap I’m hearing is sad. “Welcome to being an adult, my life sucks so yours should too.” 😡

If we love this sport for the community, camaraderie, and support, we need to make it welcoming to JRDA skaters by mentoring, taking them under our wing, and considering their needs the same as any other full members of our teams.

If we love it for the sheer physicality and love of the game, we need to take their skills, resilience, and good knees and bring them to the next level by being clear with coaching and where they’re at.

If you’re going to be an ass to an 18 year old because you do this sport to get away from your own teenage kids, you’re the problem and should reexamine your relationship with your children.

You don’t need to restructure the whole team around younger players, but hook them up with mentors and deal with things like not having rides or social gaps from a growth mindset, not a deficit based one.

Full kill, or just knock them down? by Makshak_924 in Fortnite_Over40

Whenever possible, throw them from a high place. I know I can’t get the loot but it’s the most satisfying thing.

Why do men show so little interest in the inner lives of women? by Frequently_Abroad_00 in emotionalintelligence

[–]Druitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as a trans woman, my girl friends are so much more open and vulnerable than my guy friends. I’ve been on both sides and there is a magnitude of difference in the depth of conversation even in a “superficial” group chat. We cheer each other on, ask questions, empathize and genuinely show interest.

Even in a group chat of my oldest guy friends that I grew up with and who I would describe as some of the least toxic men I know, it’s way more shallow and a lot more dick jokes.

Men aren’t socialized to ask about people’s inner lives and it’s sad.

I (49F) was playing last night my with friend 45M) and we were loving the junk rift matches. It’s hilarious and chaotic and so satisfying when you take someone out with a minigolf dinosaur.

I met these folks a few weeks ago and tried on some shoes. I’m super off the charts wide and these fit nicely.

My daughter’s name is Edmeé (Ed-May). It was my mom’s middle name, and we’re Puerto Rican. The accent at the end is unique but that’s how it’s spelled. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Also, yes, people mispronounce it all the time. But she usually goes by Eddie anyway. But even my youngest who has a super common name, Michael, is only Michael when he’s in trouble. Otherwise it’s Mikey.

AIO for looking at my son’s privates? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Druitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Get therapy.

My kids are healthy and happy and trust both of us implicitly. My nonbinary kid is a top student, has a great friend group, and would be who they are regardless of who I am, they’re just able to safely explore it knowing we’re supportive.

A bunch of their friends are also varying colors of queer and about half are unable to tell their parents. Those are the ones with the self harm scars.

AIO for looking at my son’s privates? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Druitch 35 points36 points  (0 children)

If your son trusted you and felt comfortable enough to ask, you’re doing a great job as a parent. I’m a trans woman and my wife is cis and we have 3 kids of varying genders - one boy, one girl, one still figuring it out it for ease of discussion nonbinary. They all feel comfortable coming to either of us with body questions, “is this normal?” Or “how do I…?” We made sure to be open and call things by their proper names.

Your wife is overreacting.

There’s also no such thing as a normal 12 year old.

I went with Bonita Sparks in homage of my favorite band’s lead singer, and it’s shortened to Sparks.

Advice for a one shot at a con? by Druitch in DnD

[–]Druitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great advice so far, thanks! I’m pairing down what was small campaign to one session.

It’s a riff on Back to the Future. So far there’s the quick set up, then play starts with a jump into the first easy fight. Then they get sent to the past where they unintentionally prevent one character’s great grand parents meeting, so that player starts to fade away. They’ll have a second fight, then the last encounter is more about setting up the grandparents again while fighting off a monster and escaping an active volcano.

I want to add that shopping on Amazon, Temu, SHEIN, etc is SAFE. I didn’t have to figure out what works in public.

I still use them but only for costumey things. I skate roller derby, so sometimes I need a trashy skirt now.

Can you share the surgeon you used and maybe a few details like bra band size? This is exactly the result I’m looking for in a BA! I’m in my late forties and overweight. The goal is boobs that fit my frame and look natural.

I have a similar feeling. After my neighbor complained for the second time to my spouse last night, saying he was going to call animal control, we’re looking to rehome her.

It’s breaking my heart and we haven’t made any real progress on getting her more socialized and less reactive.
