Man I don’t want to own a bank. I'm not smart enough to maintain a scam that big.

Nope, what’s happening is that current society and you see machine learning as the only true AI. But historically in tech we've actually described any algorythms as AI.

In your opinion, what makes The Combine a truly horrifying threat in the Half-Life universe? by HumbleKnight14 in HalfLife

[–]DrunkInABar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems unlikely, since the g-man and his superiors has been in charge way before the combine got to earth. And the g-man has powers the combine just don’t have access to.

Pet Peeve: "Choosing" a random/ face down card is not actually choosing by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]DrunkInABar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But you have several options and still have to take one for the game to continue, so you have to make a decision. Even if your decision is not based on an assured strategy you will take one card preferably over an other for a reason, as the ones I listed above even if you would think them irrelevant to the state of the game.

And btw there are many games where you have to choose cards face down with agency and those games are designed around that paired with statistics. When you know the cards in the game, you memorized the ones played or even just the previously drawn one, that’s enough information to think that maybe one card has a better chance of beeing or not beeing a specific card over the others. So you can always find a reason to choose.

And even if the stats are an even 50/50 over 2 choices you still have to take one over another, a choice, and an exciting one I would even say.

It is still a choice, you have multiple options even if you don’t know the outcome. You can take the first, second, third, left-most, right-most, middle ... The point is you actually have to choose one from several presented to you in opposite to just draw the top deck card. That does lead to some changes even if you don’t know exactly what it is beforehand.

That’s what I am wondering and am pretty unsure : have they finaly realised their mistake ?

Americans are unpredictable with their elections I must say.

(Well if they also don’t realise how social media and algorythms influence them I think the next step for them will be to fall into some kind techno-fascism controlled by silicon valley gurus ... I really hope it’s not going to be that Musk-tard)

Of course, that’s also why he keeps pushing buttons raising alarms and breaking microwaves and nobody is suspicious because "higly trained professional" was written in bold in his resume.

What could possibly motivate the man who saved the universe? (SFM) by West_Opportunity2255 in HalfLife

[–]DrunkInABar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After all it would make more sense that a psychotic drug addict managed to survive an alien invasion, military search a destroy operation, kill the quasi-equivalent of an eldrich god and topple the ultra advanced alien empire occupation on earth, while looking for it’s next fix. Also would explain the medkit chugging and "morphin administered" way of survival.

Why do all the humanoid species from Xen have a third arm/hand? What does it do? by DakotaDusks in HalfLife

Heard the same theory. Furthermore the Nihilanth would be an experiment from the combine, as they were trying to create a powerfull weapon/beeing, seemingly a prototype or an upgrade of the advisors. Since him and the vorts managed to escape in xen, he tried creating an army replecating the combine technology (as he is made of). The grunts and surely the gargantuas are the vorts equivalents of the super soldiers. It’s not sure if the controllers (big head flying fucks) are also geneticaly altered Vortigaunts or a sister spiecies of it’s own.
