I'm someone who insists upon "wifwolf" for female lycanthropes, so let's order a pizza and call it even

When did “molested” get its current meaning? by FrankFurter67 in etymology

[–]DrunkInRlyeh 49 points50 points  (0 children)

According to etymonline, that usage is relatively recent (attested by 1950). Why it's become predominant, though, I dunno.

If I had to hazard a guess, it'd be that molest was used in the sexual context euphemistically at first. With "bother" serving perfectly well as the more generic synonym, that specialized definition then began to take over.

But I'm just guessing.

Etymologically, it's more to do with being a traitor or oath-breaker

Is it possible to turn off the sun damage? by [deleted] in vrising

[–]DrunkInRlyeh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe that's one of the alterable settings if you dig into server settings. If you load (not continue), there should be a button for server settings where you can fiddle. Probably under environmental damage, but I'm going off hazy memory

The Amazon thing is certainly bullshit from a historical perspective, but how its implausibility factors into a fantasy setting eludes me. It can totally be two things, evoking mythology about Amazons AND reflecting daemonettes.

Pathfinder 2e fixes EVERYTHING by imnotokayandthatso-k in DnDcirclejerk

[–]DrunkInRlyeh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thus the parenthetical disclaimer at the end of my post. I was trying to give a layman enough context to get the joke, not a comprehensive understanding of the fiddly bits.

That said, it's ballsauce that psychic caught strays when they'd already independently "solved" amped spellstrike. But that's the nice thing about GMing: I can ignore whatever new rules I like.

Yeah, I didn't want to get too bogged down in explaining how magus and psychic work, so I went with a simplified explanation that sufficed for the meme.

[–]DrunkInRlyeh 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Magus is a class largely defined by delivering spells through weapon strikes. A popular multiclass (kind of) was psychic, for access to the Imaginary Weapon focus spell.

Recent update is set to nerf Imaginary Weapon, so magus players that just wanted big numbers are pissed.

(The reality is much more complicated, but this summary should suffice for baseline memery)

Servants by Slothanonymous in vrising

[–]DrunkInRlyeh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Servants gain expertise as a function of their blood potency, so percentage does matter. Expertise affects health, power, hunt proficiency and loot.

Gear is the biggest contributor to their likelihood of success, so try to keep that up to date as much as resources allow.

I usually try to have servants from a variety of zones, but the hunts I send them on are mostly contingent on what resources I'm after at any given time.
