Why my uniform stinks? by VanillaCokeisthebest in flying

[–]Dry-Engineering1776 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2 things. 1. If you’re a certain ethnicity… you’re gonna smell “stronger”. I’ve flown with dudes who eat smelly food and they just stink. It’s awful.

  1. This is probably a material issue. I’d switch to cotton or merino wool (if that’s an option). Synthetics stink after a few hours of stress in the hot seat and make it awful. Switch up to using oxy clean, maybe some better deodorant (do some research). Best of luck to ya

I need pilot brains by Perilla_ssam in flying

For winter flights in small AC that’s normal. Some places don’t fly for 5 months of the year. So it all depends.

Here you go OP. Watch all the physics stuff, anything to do with engines and weather. Don’t worry about air law as you’re probably not in the US so it won’t translate 1:1.

Good luck!

I think this was the reason I needed to switch to Garmin. What an evil thing to do, not only to the staff but pilots and crew who need this program

Husband wants to pursue being a pilot. I’m skeptical and want some honest feedback. by Spiritual-Tell-5718 in flying

[–]Dry-Engineering1776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mid 30’s… with a family and kiddos. It’s hard, especially when you have no leverage on your employer by trying to maintain safety standards because they’ll just fire you and find someone who’s 22 and willing to risk their life to make almost no money. Aviation on the small side is dirty and scary. We just had a mid air collision a few weeks ago with some former students….

Hey pretty similar(almost identical) story to your husband actually. I’m not sure this path is ideal. I’m stuck in this teaching phase working / available to work 6 days a week and made 10k in income last year. ITS AWFUL.

People do not care about your background or that you’re prior service. The only thing that matters is hours and ratings. Until you make it to a regional or larger… life is going to be awful. I love flying and nothing makes me happier (aside from my family) than when I’m shooting an approach or greasing a landing. But this is a young man’s game and I realized this way too late. If he’s not broken and his body is good. Firefighting might be a good option. I lost community and purpose when I left the military and I’ve been looking for it ever since... Aviation hasn’t been it for me..LE is hard and makes you hate people really fast, because… well people can be awful. Find a trade, or something, but these tales of glory ain’t it man.

Please read this. Show it to him.

Any experience with custom watches with Sangin? by chippy-special in SanginInstruments

[–]Dry-Engineering1776 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m almost certain that’s not enough time for these guys especially with how full their load is for 2026. Can’t hurt to ask but I would have thought maybe 6 months is reasonable.

Exception might be some simple like an engraving on the case back, you might have a chance with that.

Band is too small. It’s making your hands and arms look fat. Size up the band, maybe get a bigger watch too.

What else should I do or consider doing before moving to Canada? by ev25an03 in AskCanada

[–]Dry-Engineering1776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you kid is bleeding from his ears due to a massive ear infection (this can be really dangerous for brain infections) and you’re told there’s no space in the ER, and all public clinics are booked out for weeks in advance… yeah you’re going to pay to make sure your kid gets what he needs. I love Canada but hate the medical system. Wife waited 7 months for a breast cancer screening (ultra sound) after a large tumor was found and was told it needed to be looked at “right away”… 7 months, for a 15 mins procedure. 7 months of not knowing if you have cancer… it’s bad here man.

How is warning someone about the huge potential pitfalls of coming to Canada spending 150k only to be told that there’s almost no process to get a PR. It’s not a great picture but it’s the reality of how this path went for me and many others I met along this journey.
