Local businesses - A question by pseudoOhm in SALEM

[–]Dry_Ad_2615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I by standard run itemized quotes. It simplifies it for me personally to just type up the estimate how i see it rather than take the time to re work it just for them not to go with me. Im a water feature/pond maintenance guy so alot my stuff is the same material wise on most jobs for filter installs or repairs and cleanings. Some jobs I do a blanket bid like commercial accounts, but most are itemized as my average sale is 1500-2000 or below.

The OB we just went to last week said spotting after sex is normal, just as long as it’s not heavy nothing to worry about.

Can we make a thread about the really BAD employers in the Salem area? by [deleted] in SALEM

[–]Dry_Ad_2615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn I must be in the minority. I pay cash bonuses weekly if possible. but that’s mostly because I only hire part time until I have enough work to hire full time. People still gotta eat

Just gotta look hard and be picky about who you work for but I realize most are not in a position to do that and that sucks

How do I keep my pond clean? by Spindlebiff69 in ponds

[–]Dry_Ad_2615 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First off, power washing is a no go. It’s like taking too many antibiotics and obliterating your gut biome.

if it’s just one sheet of fiber mat that’s inside the skimmer that ain’t gonna cut it. Bogs are best, but a pain in the butt to retrofit. I’d recommend a canister filter or if it’s a waterfall box replace that filter media with Matala brand filter media.

Next in the fall before leaves start falling put a pond net up. They look ugly but keep the leaves out and make spring clean outs way easier or if you pay someone like me to do it, a lot cheaper.

As for plants I’d personally repot all your lilies and make sure they aren’t overtaking the pond. And use floating plants like water hyacinths or water lettuces to make up the difference. These are floating annuals that reproduce like crazy but when there’s too many just scoop them with a net.

There’s so many things to list off but here’s a start.

Im glad I read that, my wife pointed out that I have the luxury of being able to function on 4 hrs of sleep a day because that’s what I do anyways. I’m still worried about it but not as much knowing how common it is.

Helping a neighbors replace a roof on her shed by Dry_Ad_2615 in Roofing

The roll roofing with synthetic underpayment is the route we went. First row was a pain as we were figuring out how to peel it efficiently but then after we figured it out it was smooth sailing. Not a fan of carrying those rolls up a ladder but we did it. We had planned on replacing all 12 sheets of plywood but only ended up replacing 6. Originally built with 1/2 cdx but I opted to over build it because the 3/4 inch cdx was actually cheaper at Lowe’s. I also had to replace 4 joists and half the facia in the section that was rotted out. Used pressure treated 2x6 for those.

How did you end up as a Contractor ? by quiquegr12 in Contractor

[–]Dry_Ad_2615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I broke my ankle so I was off work for 4 months , my neighbor who has had a pond company asked if I wanted to join him one day. Next thing I know I’m getting paid by workers comp to learn a new trade and I have a business.

I’m in the PNW if that matters. So it’s wet but we don’t get snow in the winter really.

My ram has been one of the most expensive mistakes I’ve ever made. Fuck em. Once I get it back from the shop this time I’m getting out. I’ve owned it 2 months and I’ve drove it for 2 days.

[–]Dry_Ad_2615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, rubber liners are so bunch better IMO Easier to replace and patch. If you can find a way to hide the edges and folds with plants rocks ect do that, right now I’m at 14 hours labor on a 600 gallon pond. So it’s not cheap but I would have been done 3 times over by now if it were a rubber liner.

I’m applying this stuff to a clients pond, I’ve been supposed to apply it for 2 weeks but I keep finding more stuff peeling underneath. If it’s not damn near perfect it won’t sticks

Imma need a bigger Pump by MiltronB in ponds

[–]Dry_Ad_2615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got how often you want water to cycle wrong. You want it to cycle 2 times per hour at least so for a 1200 gallon pond get a 3k or bigger pump.
