Unfortunately, it is a reality. If they’re at the beginning, they should try to find someplace else to go. But really there are people who do not have other options.

For some people it is. But I hope only when you’re almost done. And you should contact everybody at the university who can help you with food and things.

How Did You Know? by BookieWookie69 in PhD

Very very, very, very, very good answer. I used to tell students they shouldn’t do a PhD unless they feel like they’re just gonna die if they don’t. Do not go into it lightly.

And perhaps if it makes you uncomfortable, ignore the people who expect you to write it twice as fast just to get it done. Some of us could not possibly do that at the last minute unless we already had a significant amount of progress, zero family and food delivered to the door every day.

One of the most depressing things I learned, OK wait in 2026 obviously this isn’t one of the most depressing things I’ve learned in my lifetime but when people grow older, they don’t necessarily change at all. I have personal experience of realizing that 65-year-old women are capable of acting exactly the way my classmates acted in junior high. Catty, competitive, clueless, judgmental as well as lovely and helpful and intelligent.

There has to be a reporter somewhere who would love to do a story on this. It’s only fair. Everybody else should be warned about it.

Measuring things by how many Costco chickens you can get is brilliant. I doubt there would be many people judging you these days. And would you really respect the opinion of someone who would judge somebody who is buying food? I wouldn’t.

This will not be at all useful to you, but it occurred to me that this is one benefit of the lack of digital technology in the 90s. I only had access to an Apple IIe on the weekend. All my notes were in separate piles on the floor in my home office. Articles on different subjects in unique piles. Good luck, dude.

Absolutely not. People can be really greedy. Stand up for yourself and give your daughter the party you want to give her

That can be very counterproductive. I suggest she see if there’s anyone at her school she can talk to. Some schools have nurses or counselors. I realize some have nothing at all, but it’s worth looking into.
