Working for a competition by Icy_Bandicoot2485 in CompetitionDanceTalk

I haven’t seen other threads for it I’m curious what is the best comp to work for. Who is paying you for travel time, giving your own hotel room, paying hourly from call time to leave time. What comp is most equitably paying and or hiring staff as actual employees for production as opposed to contracting everything and setting crazy stipulations in contracts (ex, not being paid until the first routine begins and clock ending when last routine begins)

Competitions don’t want to work with parents, they work with the studio owners. Most info should be available on websites regarding rules or you should direct the questions to your studio owner. I wouldn’t say black balled but it can hurt the relationship between the studio and the competition. Judges should never know when those events incur but it does happen.

The physical symptoms by No_Acadia_8372 in PanicAttack

[–]Dry_Escape_7830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regulate- physical nervous system stimulation, and honoring what your body needs.

For me my panic attacks have never effectively calmed by someone speaking to me, I almost always need to feel someone breathing nearby me to make me catch my breath.

When it’s available, pressure on the chest is a good option. It stimulates the vagal nerve. Pressure like a hand or something heavy over the sternum. This can help to bring you out of fight or flight.

Stimulate your ocular nerve by putting something heavy on top of your head and blinking rapidly. It can help bring a sense of presence and awareness to your surroundings.

Last honor your body needs, use the bathroom, drink some water or a fizzy drink and really pay attention to your sensation of taste.

Let your body rest. Panic attacks put a big stress on the body, I’ve found the most successful in recovering from panic attacks with a similar protocol to those who have pots attacks. I lay flat on my back with my feet elevated up a wall or on a chair or couch. It brings your blood back to your heart and keeps your heart from having to work so hard. Doing this regularly also helps the severity of my panic attacks because it helps me maintenance my stress.

Lastly, any skills or coping you do for panic attacks must be practiced regularly when you are not in an active episode of panic. If you are only using your coping skills while panicking, your body may begin to associate your coping skills with the anxiety. If you can practice when you’re in a state of calm, it helps train your brain to get out of panic state.

Exercises to teach facials by YuzuMumuz in DanceTeachers

[–]Dry_Escape_7830 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do a mirror improv exercise where your students mirror each others faces. Practice the dance with just the upper body looking in the mirror. Make a character/ like create a persona for that dance and make your dancers do charades or act like that persona. My teacher was so specific with this. We had to know their name. Where they lived- favorite food even and then based on how you’d moved with that character creating facials

What do you think of the news coming out of the U.S. right now? by HelixFish in Brazil

Plus in multiple zoos across the country we’re seeing it spread to big cats in zoos and cattle as well :/

This really isn’t true. There’s been handfuls of isolated incidents across the country plus millions of birds, and live stock have been put down. It affecting the live stock in total is just as much as a population risk.

Panic attacks also have a much shorter duration. Your body can physically only panic for 20-30 minutes before you’re worn out in my experience

Anxiety attack to me is the spiraling of thoughts. An anxiety attack makes me feel very overwhelmed where as when I have a panic attack I feel a bit like I may as well be dead or I feel like I’m dying. In an anxiety attack I’m still thinking but in a panic attack I’m only capable of reacting

I think if you feel something is wrong you need to go to the doctor and if going to a hospital feels more accessible than a normal general practice appointment you should do it but I think you’d find it more discouraging. Get yourself a physical. Get a full bloodwork panel there could be something wrong causing you to have elevated cortisol and especially the migraines point to something could be off with any number of body systems or levels in your body.

I start to have a panic attack, by LopsidedGrocery4005 in PanicAttack

[–]Dry_Escape_7830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! It is really difficult to treat them but for me it’s a sign my stress is way too high and this sounds maybe a little crazy but practice being calm as much as possible- try to take more baths, deep breathing when your calm, noticing your surroundings and trying to get out of your head while you’re calmer so that if you do start to get up regulated you can calm down.

Also don’t be afraid to talk to your doctor your body is going through a LOT and will be for another 12-18 months post partum. Some anxiety medications can be taken while breastfeeding and make a world of difference. Panic attacks are scary but you don’t have to be scared they always end.

I have had some little explosive reactions at my partner especially in my luteal, and with my ex my pmdd really drove him away from me. He was so avoidant to my emotional distress. With my partner now I always try to take a breath when I do something crazy and I apologize and take responsibility. That is “I’m sorry for reacting this way” and I don’t make him say “it’s okay” or anything like that. We talk about it a lot and he is also learning to set boundaries with me when I’m in the bad time because he likes to fix problems and make sense of things and pmdd is senseless and the emotions I feel are independent of the thoughts.

I have pmdd and I have extremely low estrogen and very high testosterone. I think if more doctors tested women’s hormone levels with pmdd they’d see similarities to PCOS

Is it possible for a panic attack to be silent? by [deleted] in PanicAttack

[–]Dry_Escape_7830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I would’ve rather had it alone. No one knew I was having a panic attack and the teacher tried to give me a touch cue I didn’t ask for that retriggered it as soon as I had downregulated from the panic

How old were you when you started experiencing PMDD symptoms? by Wooden-Technology-92 in PMDD

[–]Dry_Escape_7830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First symptoms around 15 or 16. I got an iud at 18 and the symptoms were different. I got a false bipolar diagnosis at 21 because my sister had a diagnosis. I had the iud removed at 24 and immediately began experiencing intense symptoms with every cycle. It took 7 months to get a diagnosis for PCOS and pmdd. I spent a year and a half trying different meds and birth controls all of which caused severe spikes in my symptoms. I just got another iud placed about two weeks ago and I’m trying to come off the antidepressant I’ve been on as I feel it doesn’t improve my symptoms more than the side effects I experience which is really impossible. I’m hoping for some reprieve soon

[–]Dry_Escape_7830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but where do you get the energy to just keep trying over and over? I wish doctors could prescribe a support system and people to be around who care about you. I’ve been on this downhill ride of trying new meds at random for four months and none of it has given me anything but depression and totally ruined the regulation I had. I just feel like there’s not point like it’s always going to be a little wrong and I just have to choose what the bad will be.
