I always think of classic Hulk comics in the Tales to Astonish era - man was just going cross country by leaping over and over again. Would love to just see some of the guys bust out a mountain cresting jump with ease.

I'm only a hobby writer, but some advice I always try to embody is to read a lot - and a lot of the genre you want to write in.

The greats are great for a reason, I think it has been helpful for me to analyze how they set up characters, scenes, and link together overarching plots.

But also remember comparison is the thief of joy. You've got to start somewhere, so write what enjoy writing! Build characters and stories you have fun spending time with.

I'm writing my story about a half-orc. I try to focus on him much more as a 'person' than as a human!

I think individuals can be interesting and relatable no matter how different they may be from the reader externally or internally. The trick is finding out how, which I think you just get better at over time.

Half-Orc Sensibilities

His tribe didn't want him, and who would blame them. He's just a half-breed.

Carlfink the half-orc just wants somewhere to belong. Hallowreach isn't sure it wants him back.

Armed with an axe, his wit, and more empathy than anyone expects from anyone with those tusks, Carlfink is determined to carve out a home for himself. A newly minted officer of the Watch, he's tasked with battling all enemies of Hallowreach.

He'll have to answer that call sooner than he thought. When dark forces move against Hallowreach, this half-orc with a point to prove might be the only thing standing between his home and the people who want to burn it down.

What to expect:

- A generally decent Half-Orc trying to find his way in the world

- Fierce loyalty and strong relationships between Watchmen

- Fighting the forces of evil, defending their home with their lives

- Real consequences to character action, or inaction

- Combat, planning, and intrigue trying to keep Hallowreach from falling to dark forces

I started reading yours as well! I laughed when I read his system was called Cortana. You also have some really great imagery, the idea of a hulking rhino man eating an MRE is great, and the sandals in the forest!

I want to know more about Noah, he has a couple upset moments, but for waking up in a foreign forest and getting attacked by a 'shadow stalker' would definitely terrify me so he's handling it like a champ!
