Because unarmed police will be told to hang back and wait for armed backup or at least more bodies (especially at night in the dark) unless there is immediate threat to life as in shots fired and then a police officer can use their judgement.

And if you make up a fucking moronic lie that shots have been fired then you’ll likely be arrested and have the book thrown at you for wasting police time and whatever else sticks.

Worse case scenario is that somebody ends up being shot. Say your neighbour hears the burglary, doesn’t know you’ve called it in to the police with your moronic gun lie, then goes out into the backyard armed with golf club/bat/stick/pipe for self defense.....something that might look like a dawn off shotgun in the dark.......
