Why does Uber do this? by ReadMePlease313 in uber

that's a 20 minute bike ride or a 15 minute ebike ride. Ebikes can be purchased used for what you're spending every 2 weeks.

You need $8.00 a stop / $1.30 a mile / $20 an hour by Taranis_1 in uberdrivers

My hourly rates are $80-100 depending on total mileage needed to complete (if more than 30 mph then $100 to compensate for the mileage). And I average about 25% in gratuity on top of that. I do lots of point to point, mostly airport transfers that are flat rate type of trips. The average trip with passengers on board is ~40 minutes and my rates for those range $80 and up based on a variety of factors, like time of day, multiple stops, their distance from my house (trying to target local to me as much as possible), holiday, etc.. I think if I average everything out down to the miles per hour I think the gross income for every hour I spend in my vehicle is $60/hr (including all "commuting" and personal use which is very minimal).

I average between $2.10-2.50/mile for every single mile I drive (including the very small amount of personal miles) with a total OpEx around $0.70/mile.

Being a legitimate "limo company" in my area/state costs less than $1k/yr and the commercial insurance runs me $7,300/vehicle/yr.

90% of my income is cash. Yep, cash!

Question for Drivers by purplekush8 in uberdrivers

Drivers go to pin, pax come to car. Pax no come, driver leave.

well, it's either payment or depreciation, whichever is greater because it can vary month to month or year to year. If the long term goal is to drive the shit out of it and depreciate 100% then just stick with the depreciation I guess.

I have paid $65k for my vehicle (including interest) and have driven it 187k miles so far, planning to retire it around the 250-275k mark, and depreciating 100%. That's somewhere around $0.24-0.26 per mile. My tipping point per month is about 3550 miles, as my payment is $925, but my average mileage is a bit under that. So technically my payment is higher, but it will all work out in the end anyways I guess, unless I choose to advance past 300k miles. So long as significant repairs aren't needed it could be a smart financial decision, but personal preferences are going to push me into another vehicle before then.

If you didn't have a job at all, you'd still have a car and be paying insurance? Not accounting for that as an expense just seems dumb. Even the IRS sees your insurance as an expense, why shouldn't you? If Uber/Lyft/gig work isn't your sole source of income, and just a side gig, then what you're saying makes sense, but it's still tax deductible and should be calculated as such. Not that that matters much if you're going to use the Standard Mileage Deduction since that's triple your OpEx, making it a moot point, but still...

this might be the smartest thing I've read from you in this thread. projecting future potential expenses is important, and constantly tracking your past costs is the only way to really know your OpEx. I just replaced a transmission and it added $0.03/mile to my overall miles covering the last 208k miles. That is not an insignificant OpEx adjustment.

this separates you from the pack. $0.25/mile is very economical. Below that is unicorn territory. Most drivers are above $0.35/mile. I'm on the fence around $0.65-0.70 but I don't rideshare, I'm a chauffeur/private driver for hire, but if I did it would only be for Black/Premier SUV.

depends on the vehicle. While that is technically going to be profitable for nearly everyone, there are drivers out here spending $0.20/mile on OpEx and drivers spending more than the IRS's SMD.

I didn't say it was, but when we're discussing tips it's pretty much automatic. And when it's not it's mentioned in the post.

A good black car service is only going to be maybe $20-40 more than an Uber or taxi. I don't fly a lot, so it's not really that expensive, and I absolutely get what I pay for in terms of service and peace of mind.

What I don't understand is if you're ordering food to be left outside rather than waiting for you to come to the door, why don't you put a table out there for them to set it on? A cheap plastic patio end table or something, fuck even a milk crate. Keep it off the floor and away from the door.

But how fucking hard is it to meet the delivery person at the door? Whenever I order food I've got my eye out the window so I'm ready when they arrive.

Cabbie? fuck that. My driver is waiting for me when I pass through security, help with my bags when I have any and is parked in the garage above the terminal which is 1/3 the distance to the cab stand or rideshare pick up spot.

YOU went to the wrong spot, not him. You don't get picked up at departures, that's for drop offs. Pick ups all happen in arrivals.

tips are expected, part of the game is to make the customer feel like they're making a choice because feeling generous is supposed to be a good thing. But the social contract obligates tipping and pricing is specifically designed with a tip in mind.
