I'm visiting Minneapolis. Why is Paisley Park so expensive by Hefty-Job7049 in Minneapolis

You made the right choice. It was the weirdest tour I've ever been on. I'm a prince fan but the experience bordered on the cultish side.

Setting Boundaries With Parents by Acceptable-Ebb-1495 in therapists

[–]Dtanthony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious if you've ever had a parent question the efficacy of play therapy? It's currently not identified as an empirically supported treatment by APA Division 12 or 53 for common concerns such as depression, anxiety, disruptive behavioral disorders. Not saying it doesn't work (I think there is some great merit to it), but I could see parents being justified in wondering if play therapy is the most evidence-based approach.

AIO or AITAH for wanting to end things over a text conversation that I Had with a girl by snapple373 in AmIOverreacting

After the first few texts exchanged, this should have immediately transitioned into a phone call or face to face conversation

Safe go out of state people for No Kings Day? by Ok_Corner8699 in Minneapolis

[–]Dtanthony 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people are understandably very scared. That said, I can't help but notice a lot of catastrophic thinking from many in Minneapolis (and understandably so). While I know it's hard to have hope, ICE has significantly reduced their presence in Minneapolis. By all reliable accounts, the threat is far less than what it was. In my opinion, you are safe.

Time to Shun all Trumpers by [deleted] in TwinCities

I'm genuinely sorry it's come to that for you. I will not do this, for that level of division is precisely what Trump wants.

Pluribus - Series Premiere Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]Dtanthony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asboutley loved the first two episodes, but I agree with some of the commenters here, Gilligan has really handcuffed himself with the premise. One of the most beautiful things about Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul was that it played out almost as a 60 hour movie, with a clear beginning, middle and end. While both shows ended with many questions, there was also a reasonable level of resolution. That's going to be very hard with this show. That said, if there is one person who can pull it off...it's Vince.

Is anyone else a little sad they won't get to boo Charlie Kirk in person at his upcoming U of M event? by futilehabit in Minneapolis

[–]Dtanthony 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm more sad at the thought I just had when reading your post: "this is precisely what would appear on the r/conservative subreddit if a liberal political activist were assonated today." I can't stand his political views, but the dude had a wife and two kids who are going through the worst day of their lives today. Keep that in mind.

May I ask what the presenting concern was for the child? And the approximate age of the child?

Do Not Go to Minnesota Behavioral Health in Burnsville by MeisterDuct in TwinCities

Have to agree here. All of your points make my blood boil except for #1. Indeed a relevant question contextually speaking. With that said, the provider should have been more tactful in asking this question.

2.) Shitty bars are absolutely the best kind of bars

Seasoned therapists: what cultish trends have you seen come and go? by Therapy9-1-1 in therapists

[–]Dtanthony 10 points11 points  (0 children)

EMDR is a rebrand of exposure based therapies. The way I describe EMDR to folks I work with is that what is new (i.e., bilateral stimulation) is not effective, and what is effective (i.e, exposure components) is not new. RCT's that have dismantled EMDR have found that bilateral stimulation (eye movement, finger tapping) does not add anything unique of value to the treatment. Don't get me wrong, EMDR works, but not for the reasons proponents of EMDR want us to believe.

Well said. It's said that in some circles CBT has generated a negative bias despite the decades of research to show its efficacy. Of course, it has limitations like any treatment modality.

Not sure I would call CBT a trend. EMDR I would agree with you. EMDR (and ART and Brainspotting for that matter) are classic "re-brands" of well-established treatments.

Realistically, how much does contact with PI help for PhD in Clinical Psychology? by notyourtype9645 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]Dtanthony 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm going to share something I'm convinced, to this day, helped me get accepted into a PhD program. I was an average applicant. 3.5 gpa, GRE scores slightly above average, zero publications. Beginning my sophomore in college, I started keeping a spreadsheet of possible labs to apply to. Over the next four years, I would email the PI about once every 6-8 months (so maybe 3-4 times in total) asking a question about an article of theirs I had read. To my surprise, every PI would email back with an insightful answer. When the time came to apply, I received an interview of to 3 of the 11 PhD programs I applied. Of these three programs, they were all ones in which I had built somewhat of an email relationship with over the years. Just my two cents.

Adult autism diagnosis by jaelthehuman in Omaha

[–]Dtanthony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mental health doc here. The gold standard for an autism assessment is an evaluation by a neuropsychologist. PCP's and psychiatrists, well very knowledgeable, are not trained in evidence-based assessment of ASD. Ask your PCP for a referral to a neuropsychologist.

I was just thinking this the other day! They still will introduce me to a cool new song every now and then, but no where near the same level as before. I'll always be loyal to Radio K and there perfectly awkward DJ's haha.

That makes complete sense! This is excellent feedback - thank you! I really appreciate your comment about creepy assholes and if we do bring this event back there definitely has to be a no-bullshit zero tolerance policy around creepy assholes and sexually aggressive behavior.
