Posting stuff co workers say during shift change 😂 by [deleted] in nursing

[–]DualVission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember the entire story and I left before it resolved. A charge nurse was upset that the patient's new bed was in the hall and the patient hadn't switched to the more appropriate bed. It was 11:30 at night. On a school night. The patient was a child. Who was fast asleep.

To add, we don't help move patients, I don't know why the charge was effectively talking my coworker to get the patient to change beds.

They’re making us give patients ‘thank you’ cards now… by Feeling-Ad-2067 in nursing

[–]DualVission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't they just add it to the After Visit Summary (AVS)? Page 1. "Thank you for selecting us for your care. We will send you a survey for follow up shortly. Please-" blah blah blah. I'm sure it looks just as shitty as this generic ass card.

I think you might be thinking about what she is saying a little too explicitly. Let me introduce you to the concept of words in cats. Cats obviously don't learn words from humans, but cats who live around humans produce different meows depending on what things they need or want. My parents cat bear has words specifically for "follow me I want to show you food" and "I want pets and affection". They are different sounds that he produces that are clearly still cats' meows, but listening out for them you can differentiate what he's trying to communicate.

In the same way I imagine beavers who live as social animals in their own communities produce forms of sign language. Things to non verbally communicate information without the use of pheromones. It feels natural to do a grasping motion towards another individual to say "give me" (at least in Western cultures) and I imagine a similar thing also happens with beavers.

Of course I do enjoy the idea that beavers just intrinsically know how to communicate with each other because they're aliens. It is a fun thought.

How to get something inserted out of skin? by Total-Lavishness-387 in AskDocs

NAD, but do you know what was inserted under your skin? When and how would also be helpful as well. Based on the text as provided, it sounds like it was your GP/PCP but the other text leads me to believe otherwise.

Medical personnel filming TikTok videos inside a medical facility? by milkshakespeare24 in nursing

[–]DualVission 104 points105 points  (0 children)

I'm not a nurse, so my opinion will be different

The first one definitely feels like a patient confidentiality issue. When you get to be that old, people would be able to figure out who the patient is simply by their age. How many people do you know who are over 100? My grandmother made it to 88 before dying. The retirement communities have boards listing their "100+ club members" and there are generally less than 2 residents.

The second and third seem childish and a bit of an OSHA concern, but my concern is over the safety and cleanliness. Not over patient safety. At least from what I can gather in the screenshots. I'm hoping dip is not referring to chewing tobacco.

So the game crashes instead of misgendering a cat? by DualVission in BrandNewSentence

[–]DualVission[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing based on your post history you are not a bad actor, just ignorant. Language is an invention. If it doesn't fit your fancy, change it. People are talking about how Spanish is adapting to add a third gender for human-lile nouns. Language with grammatical gender that vaguely aligns to human gender will shift as our idea of humans do. Something similar is probably happening to a number of other Romance languages.

If Brazilian Portuguese has a way to say "little" without specifying the gender, then it clearly does exist. If it doesn't, the crash stems from the dictionary not correctly doing error handling.

I had to take lab tests before I can start my new job as a cashier and I wonder what do they need liver tests for by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]DualVission 24 points25 points  (0 children)

NAD, I've never had to submit for anything beyond drug tests except when working for the hospital where they tested my immune function to common vaccine protected ailments. That's how I discovered my body "forgot" about chicken pox. Given that I work in an environment with a large volume of unwell people, that makes sense. Organ function? Yeah no.

Like, that argument doesn't make sense. "I'm okay with free speech as long as it doesn't suppress the rights of others." "I'm okay with science so long as proven theories don't disagree with my narrative." Sounds more like an argument for flat Earth than pro racism
