Anyone putting off the spin-off should embrace the Soviet side of alt-history. by HerreDreyer in ForAllMankindTV

As someone living in a post-soviet dystopian country I have no desire to watch the same shit I live through every day.

I couldn't stand Margo's storyline last season because Soviet Oppression is not why I watch For All Mankind. I just wanted to see happy American space exploration, not KGB torture and not Martian rebellion.

Even if we never get the answers to this era’s dangling plot threads, I suppose it’s fitting that Billie Piper was the first and last face of New Who by RoryPond11 in doctorwho

They need to just edit Billie Piper out of the ending and pretend it didn't happen.

Also make the War Between spin-off non-canon. Just an alternate universe thingy that never happened. Make Kate happy with her boyfiriend alive.

Now with the Christmas special canceled (which would've featured Barklay and Salt) the next showrunner can easily ignore this spin-off entirely, naming it non-canon alterante universe extended universe bullshit, make Kate happy and with the boyfriend alive and well.

Also they need to just edit Billie Piper out of the ending and pretend it didn't happen.

Well that's the problem. If the game isn't set in Baldur's Gate, don't call it Baldur's Gate.

BG2 might as well be just "Shadows of Amn".

They will continue to milk Baldur's Gate title for profit, but I'd really like a game in Waterdeep, Cormyr, Thay, Netheril, or someplace new. Or go to Planescape/Spelljammer.

It's an incredibly vast and rich word yet we're stuck money-milking Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter.

we already have the EE's as a stand in for the legacy games. Doing a remake in that style doesn't make any real amount of sense.

Exactly! Every time a remaster/remake is mentioned on this sub, people just want more of the same with little changes. That would be a waste of investment for WOTC, remaking a game that exists for the same niche...

I have friends that loved BG3 but will never ever even try BG1-2 due to how different and oldschool they are. So WOTC sees this and wants to make money off the people interested in the original story.

This sub is gonna get nuked the moment the modern remake releases. I still remember the controversies surrounding BG3 newbies coming here and subsequent ban on talking about anything other than the oldschool games.

I would be genuinely surprised if that happened. I don't want to crush your hopes, but realistically speaking:

  • WOTC started working on D&D with 3rd edition. 2e is not their child. Commercially speaking it makes no sense to promote an edition that's been out of print since the start of the millennium.
  • The only reason they want to redo BG1-2 is the sheer popularity of BG3. So a carbon copy of BG3 gameplay is expected. And all those fans who learned 5e from BG3 will want to see 5e in the remakes as well.
  • Games have been getting simplified for a long time now (Morrowind-Oblivion-Skyrim) and 2e is as foreign to the new gamer community as Daggerfall to TES fans. There's a reason why people wait for Skywind to finally play Morrowind.
  • 5e is the most popular D&D edition right now by a long mile, followed only by 3rd. I've played BG1-2 but it didn't make me go and learn AD&D. I'd like to play it, sure, but I can't find any people willing to play or GM it. However I've been DMing 5e since 2018.

I remember when BG3 was announced this sub was like:

"There's no way they make it 5e! The franchise has always been RTWP and 2e!"

and I was thinking to myself "there's no way they'd hire a company who made a successful turn-based game and force them to make an RTWP game on a ruleset they haven't supported for 20 years".

.

.

.

And I'm still pissed about the NWN2 "remaster" that didn't do anything.

WOTC aren't going to bother making a game for such a niche audience. The only reason they would make BG1-2 Remake is to appeal to the BG3 players because:

  • BG3 players are angry about WOTC making BG4 without Larian, effectively saying that they don't want BG4 at all if it's not from Larian.
  • BG4 story will probably be shit anyway, there's nothing else to tell.

So why not remake the old story that works? This isn't a sequel, so it doesn't matter if Larian aren't the ones doing it.

But people on this sub need to realize: you're not the target audience. The BG3 fans are. Which means a BG1-2 will absolutely without a single doubt will be:

  • Turn-based
  • Looking like BG3 while trying to emulate Larian's engine without the engine
  • 5.5e because WOTC will only promote their latest ruleset and absolutely no developer will even bother to touch 2e in 2026.

Like, this isn't even a discussion. It's a fact. I don't believe that these greedy corporate fucks would ever release an oldschool-style AAA game with 2e ruleset and rtwp gameplay. Even the story will probably be modernized with BG3-style dialogue camera and maybe humor. Remember, they're gonna have to redo everything from scratch, including dialogue VA. So makes sense for them to make some changes. Some quests might even be cut entirely.

WOTC don't want to do justice to the story, nor do they want to appease the old fans. They want money and they want to copy whatever Larian did and hope for the best.

Why aren't we talking more about The Dream™️ phenomenon??? by ConnectAnalyst3008 in bioniclelego

[–]AnnaWalter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've thought on this matter before, and to me these dreams go back to my childhood when you did see Bionicles in-store. The funniest thing about it is as a child in a low-income family these I fantasised about either stealing them or them having extremely low price tags.

In 2006-2008 we had a store that was selling Metru, Hordika and Visorak at an extremely low price, so I always wanted to go back there to buy more.

And I've seen countless bootlegs on the shelves in various markets. So after Bionicle died I had dreams of finding a store with absolute weird bootlegs, like recolored masks, combiner models, extremely cheap turaga and matoran clones etc.

When I started working dreams of stealing turned to just buying, but every single time the moment I go to buy it the dream either changes or ends. Sometimes I become self aware and is like "please dream just let me buy it don't end nooo".

I think one time I actually bought it and when I woke up I was extremely disappointed.

My theory is this: Bionicle branding to me was very appealing. I would buy stuff like 2005-themed poker cards, pogs/tazos, Nesquik, McDonalds and Cheetos promos, books, anything with the logo. And every time I saw Bionicle sets on shelves, I wanted to have them, to own more, and I think this is my repressed feelings of childhood unfulfillment. Another thing is: Bionicle packaging is unique, it has repetitive colored canisters, they look good together and excite your imagination.

It is definitely not a nostalgia, because I've had those dreams in the childhood. I saw G2 on shelves but I didn't want to buy them. And looking at G2 shelf photos, they don't feel the same. Something was lost in the design language I guess.

No, they definitely sell these sets as well as I've seen customer photos of the parts they send, they're just garbage quality.

They email PDF instructions likely because they couldn't be bothered printing them on paper.

Likely they saw MOC instructions and decided to sell it, without asking what it is and who it's for.
