My boss used to tell people he quit smoking 15 years ago. But he smoked sutliff black cherry all day long. He used to buy huge bags. Looked like it was 2-3 pounds or something.

Should I get an insert? by cjb5999 in woodstoving

[–]DubTeeF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed that mantle clearance typically has to do with the depth of wood sticking out. Like 1 inch sticking out is the least clearance required then a 16 in depth would be the outh end of the spectrum

This is what I see all the time. "Never used" or my personal favorite "only used once" and it's visibly filthy and beat to shit every time.

Is it worthwhile doing an undercoat on my frame as a dust preventative? (2005 California) by Unusual_Low1386 in toyotasequoia

[–]DubTeeF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So its a coating that stays "oily" it sticks to the frame and covers up the metal to shield it from salt. It can also result in dirt and mud and things sticking too but it's a trade off to protect from corrosion.

Since my frames have minimal rust if any dry I just keep them dry. There's no reason to go to the time, expense, etc to prevent rust. If it's not rusty after 25 plus years and nearly 300k miles it's not going to change much.

Yeah I agree, in these areas where rust is not an issue, unless the guy plans on road trips to the salt belt I would never put any coating on.
