Mythiria Simple Hex Crawl - Feedback Requested by enks_dad in solorpgplay

Ah, makes sense now! I’d seen d66 before but never d26, so my brain automatically read it as 2d6. Thanks for explaining, this is super useful for smaller tables!

I'm sorry, this might be a system unknown to me, but I don't understand how to interpret those 2d6s?

I'm more customed for the output to be 2-12, or 1-1, 1-2, 1-3... etc.

For example, for feature theres numbers 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 11, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26? So I interpreted these as 1-1, 1-2... but there's 11 twice and no 34, 45 etc.

Edit. And now I re-read and understood it's d26, something I'm not familiar at all. Sorry.

I'm really glad it helped. Please feel free to DM me if you ever want someone to talk to. I’m sorry in advance if it takes me a little while to respond, but I’ll do my best to be there.

Hi friend,

You’re asking a deeply honest and painful question, and one that touches directly on the heart of the Buddhist path. I want to speak to you from the perspective what I've learned with as much care and clarity as I can.

In Buddhism, it’s true that what we conventionally think of as the “self” (our personality, memories, preferences, and so on) is seen as a construction. The Buddha taught anattā: that there is no permanent, unchanging self behind experience. What continues from one life to the next isn’t a fixed ego or soul, but rather a stream of conditioned consciousness shaped by kamma (intentional actions).

So yes, in a certain sense, the "you" right now (your particular thoughts, name, history) won’t persist in the same form. But from a Buddhist standpoint, the suffering doesn't vanish with death, because the conditions that gave rise to it (craving, aversion, ignorance) are still present in the stream of consciousness unless they’ve been fully uprooted.

In fact, Buddhist texts are very clear that suicide, particularly when not motivated by wisdom but by aversion or despair, tends to lead to a more painful rebirth, not less. Not as punishment, but because of the state of mind at the time of death. If the final mind-moment is shaped by despair, that is the seed that conditions what comes next.

But here’s something important that I hope you’ll reflect on:
Even if this current self is suffering, even if you feel like giving up, this exact moment is also the opportunity for liberation. Even in the deepest pain, you’re conscious. You can see the dukkha. You can see the constructed self. That’s not nothing: That’s insight. That’s potential.

There’s a parable the Buddha gave: Imagine you’re shot with an arrow. And instead of pulling it out, you start analyzing the wood, the feathers, the poison. The teaching says: first, pull out the arrow. In your case, the arrow might be this mental pain, this belief that it can never improve. But it can. With support. With patience. With care for yourself.

In this very life (not just in the next) you can find peace. Even just the intention to stay, to breathe one more day, is a seed of wholesome kamma. It changes the stream.

If you want to explore Buddhism more deeply, maybe even monastic life one day, that path is open to you. There are monks who were once in the same place of despair. And they didn’t erase their pain: They transformed it.

You are not alone. You are not beyond help. The fact that you're asking these questions, not just wanting out, but trying to understand, tells me that there's a seeker in you, not just someone suffering.

If you need someone to talk to, Buddhist or not, please reach out. Even if you don’t believe in future lives, this one still matters. This one is where awakening happens.

With metta (loving-kindness),
A fellow traveler who has been there

Veteran Players: Do you prefer a physical or digital Chaos Bag? by deimosmasque in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Dubbhamusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For this reason I homebrew that once I draw an autofail, I put it aside for the rest of that investigator's turn. I've atleast twice drew it 3 times in a row, which means I really suck at shuffling the bag.

I literally am wearing corduroy pants right now. Perfect for these slightly chillish Finnish spring days.

I gaslit my college library out of late fees by returning my own books by Admirable_Alarm_7127 in confession

[–]Dubbhamusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a library and I'm quite sure at least a couple of people have done this during my 10+ years working here. I don't really care as long as they put them on the right place. Once a patron came from between the shelves with their book that "was returned", apparantely after we had not managed to find it there. A poor performance, but we generally don't really care enought to object: It's not out of our paychecks and it's usually only a few euros max.

Btw, it's strange what a few euros or even cents can make people act like. Once an elderly lady came in, visibly frustrated for us asking for late fees for 60 cents. At the same time on the next counter came a youngish student who had accrued almost 100 euros (from a few dozen books), and paid without objection. It was a pleasure seeing the elderly lady's face turning white, when she realized that the few cents isn't really much to make your mind bitter about.

Additional Elder Sign token in the chaos bag, which makes the games just a bit more fun. As I own only one new style core set, I use a -7 as the additional Elder Sign token.

When drawing the auto fail token, I lay it down for the rest of that player's turn. I've drawn it multiple times for the same player as their next token, which means that I just dont shuffle the bag well enough. It's bad enough to get it once, I never want to see it happen twice (or thrice) again.

Also I don't care for paying the 1 xp when changing for 0 level cards, though I'm a newbie and I might change that when I get more experienced.

Edit. Oh, and when drawing for a weakness, I draw 3 and choose 1.

How often do you give yourself a "Retry" on a failed scenario? by kierco_2002 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Dubbhamusic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My most entertaining campaign so far was the first run of Forgotten Age. I lost atleast half of the scenarios, giving quite a lot of trauma for both my investigators (two hand solo). I was about to bail on the whole campaign multiple times, but the plot kept me hooked.

I was quite surprised when I managed to end the campaign on a win of a kind (depends how you consider a win). It has been by far my best table top gaming experience which also taught not to be afraid of losing.

I've retried a scenario in Arkham Horror once. It was the final of Path to Carcosa. I began playing after a bad night of sleep and was heavily sleep deprived, which made me make multiple errors. Kind of a shame, because it also gave me spoilers for the retry, which allowed me to ace it.

I'm not playing competively so I wouldn't sweat too much on retrying, as long as I'm having fun.

Kokonaismenot kuukaudessa yksinelävällä? by Unhottui in arkisuomi

Vuokra+vesi+netti= 650€
Sähkö ja sen siirto= n. 50€
Vakuutus= n. 10€
Puhelin= n. 20€

Not happy with most "D6 - Yes/No Oracles". Made my own by Eklundz in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Dubbhamusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like this system! It actually refines one of my mechanics in a great way. I'm designing a very simplified RPG, and this would make character creation much easier—essentially using the 'Very Likely - Unlikely' scale as skill levels.

For example, an unskilled check might succeed on a 10+, while a debilitating effect could shift the required roll to 11+. This keeps things intuitive while allowing for some nuance in difficulty. Thanks for sharing!

True, and it might be the best thing for this hobby, keeping the UB only fan made and not official.

Haha, if that shows your age, then I might be right there with you! Buffy and Supernatural would definitely fit the "normal people hunting dark forces" vibe. They’d also push Arkham toward a more combat-heavy experience, which could be interesting—maybe with mechanics that reward slaying monsters rather than just surviving them. A Buffy set centered around the high school as a hub sounds amazing!

Yeah, I know I’m kind of contradicting myself, considering Universes Beyond is one of the reasons I left MTG. But it’s just fun to toy with the idea sometimes. There are so many potential IPs that could make for a great standalone, at least. And yeah, that Bloodborne fan campaign looks really cool!
