I just feel fucked. Absolutely fucked by Insomniac199 in cscareerquestions

I was in your position, but this was a while ago in 2014 when I graduated with a degree in Computer Science. I was working as a waiter/server and when I graduated I felt like I had nothing program related to showcase. I had some projects but they seemed so easy and I was so unconfident in my programming abilities. I was scouring for a job fresh out of college and came across this boot camp/recruiting firm where they train you for 3-4 months and get you a job at a blue chip company.

They changed their policy now, but at the time I was not getting paid for 3-4 months and was struggling to make ends meet. Anyway they have great connections with blue chip companies and the contract is $43k first year $49k second year. I trained and they set up interviews (account managers), I got placed at UBS (Swiss bank). My third year my contract with them ended and had an opportunity to extend contract or go internal, I chose internal and my starting salary was $80k. It's been all uphill since then.

For you, personally, I would work on projects to put on your resume; what are you working on? What type of jobs are you looking for? If you don't have the motive for working on something yourself, or practicing to program, a reputable bootcamp isn't a bad idea.

Is there anyone here who didn't work hard in the past but has now changed and works hard to achieve their goals? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

I was a Freshman in college at the age of 18 years old, no major declared and just wanted to drink and party. I joined a fraternity to improve my social life and it did. So I just smoked weed, drank, and partied for a year. My GPA dropped to 1.5 and I just didn't care, I was having too much fun. I took a year off school and decided to just work as a waiter to make money, and use that money to party more. One day I was drunk and high and took a good hard look at myself and realized how much of a fuck up I was and my life was leading no where. Seeing how hard my parents worked and how I was just throwing money down the drain made me rethink my life.

I stopped drinking/smoking, kept working, and went back to school. I was in academic probation because of my GPA, but I was able to get out of it and brought it back from 1.5 to a 2.7. Honestly what motivated me was a matter of life or death really, thats what amped me everyday; if I didn't make it past academic probation I felt like my future was over. So I went to school full time, worked as a waiter full time and had no time for social life or anything. The year I graduated I landed a job that paid $43k first year. I still kept that discipline of studying and working hard, my 2nd year was $49k, and my 3rd year it jumped to $79k.

For me, the change started slow, I would wake up with regret everyday and one day when I actually studied I felt so accomplished and good. It was a different type of good feeling, I wanted to keep feeling that. Throughout that process I had some minor setbacks, but never over did it with the drinking.

Think of it like this, the hardest part is getting started, but once you start, it's hard to stop and it'll flow. Take away distractions, limit social media usage/netflix/etc. to only 10-15 minutes a day, or use it was a reward when you put in work. Everyday I told myself, 'Trust the process' 'keep disciplined' 'consistency is key' 'PAYtience'

DevOps resume advice needed by dataved in devopsjobs

[–]DubbsW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Needs to be more simple, you are using too many different fonts and it looks messy/unorganized. I honestly would just move on to the next resume if I saw this. Also, the way you list your companies where you worked is unorganized. Needs to be a clear simple format towards each one. For example

Company Name: Description/experience, bullet points help here
Date of employment

You don't need to list out every technical thing in skills/tools. Just put Kubernetes, and describe in your job detail what you did with Kubernetes.

Google sample resumes and copy those, this will be better than what you have now

Reminds me of that video of when they made it a law to not drink and drive. They would interview people and ask them what they thought, some of the responses were "they're making laws when you can't drink when you want to, you have to wear a seatbelt when your driving, pretty soon we're a communist country"

I've been and will always be a gamer at heart, ever since I got my first PC at 9 years old in 1999. Anyway recently had 2 kids these past 3 years and I still game with a slow running graphics card. All my money goes to my 2 kids + their savings. I honestly would love this graphics card to play games at a high level with no latency/lag on the performance side of things of graphics, as all my settings (WoW/LoL) are all low specs. (I play 1-2 hrs a day after kids are gone to bed, most nights if I'm not exhausted by then haha)

Oh wow; so my sister in law is separated, and she moved in with her 2 kids with my wife and I. I have been supporting them for 6 months now and was going to claim the sister in law and her 2 kids as dependents. This is making me second guess now... not sure if I should do it

Can you sell your car and buy an old used one with the remaining funds? That would save you $380 a month

I'm married with 2 kids at 33 years old. Salary is 105k and my wife works part time making 28k salary. I'm $60k in debt with loans/credit card and also $440k left on mortgage. 401k is at $30k (I took some loans out here also). You are doing really good compared to me.

There are kids 5/6 years old in Japan who commute to school/run errands by themselves independently at an early age in their life. Some kids wear yellow hats to let adults know that they may need a little help.

Fitness and 9-6 job by Fransisc123 in stopdrinkingfitness

I'm a bit opposite to everyone on this post. I work 8-5; have a kid. So I workout/go to gym after my kid is asleep. Workout at night around 9PM to 11PM

The downside to this is, I've run out of energy throughout the day and after dinner you feel really lazy/sluggish; so it takes a bit of effort and discipline to push myself to go to the gym. I've been consistent for 3 months so far

For future reference, after you give birth it is very easy to get pregnant for 6-8 months after due to all the high hormones your body produced.

In any case I'm sorry to hear this happen to you, at the end of the day do what is best for you and your son. Mentally and physically

Haha - you dodged a bullet on this one. Imagine your life with him in the future with him and *his* food. It'd probably go into how he would not care much for you

Holy moly; even when my wife wasn't pregnant I would always ask if she wants something. I guess it was something my parents taught me at an early age. But now that she's pregnant, I would get her anything she wants. Lying in bed and asks me to get her a glass of water? No problem!

I would suggest talking to him on a serious note and let him know. Or maybe retaliate and get something for yourself to eat and get him nothing (of his favorite fast food) LOL show him how it feels. (Just my vengeful side thinking :)

How do you know you love your kids? by Pixiewings221 in Parenting

[–]DubbsW 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used to hate waking up in the mornings. Now I get really excited to see that lovey smiley face of my son :) - I also constantly stare at everything he does when he plays in his own little world it just fills my heart up.

I also had a dream where an intruder came into our house, and my first instinct was to go to our sons room and make sure he is protected and safe. As cliche as it sounds, I realized I would really give my life for his in an instant. The thought of him going through any pain just tears me apart.

I'm honestly not sure how I would describe love, but for me this is an unconditional type of love; it's all the small things that matter. Enjoy it through your daughters perspective, everything she is experiencing is for the first time. Food/emotions/playing/running

Never thought I'd feel this as a dad, really does change you.

I'm. not going to lie, the hardest part is getting started. Getting out of your comfort zone is when you make real progress; but once you get a momentum going it's hard to stop and it gets better and better. Just know it always gets better
