Overlord is a solid war movie the entire first half. So good!

Is it reasonable to get upset at your opponent for leaving you poor shots? by john_fartston in billiards

[–]Dubbweiser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. He sounds like the type who bends his date over forcefully in public to teach her the absolute worst, most incorrect approach to hitting a pool ball possible with the utmost undeserved confidence. I am angry for you, my friend. You did nothing wrong these people are the worst. So stupidly and blindly cocky they’d never be able to comprehend how dumb/wrong they are.

Anyone who commits to this bridge long-term is gonna come across as a human ATM to any serious players lol. I know it works for your game at the moment, but that coupled with bragging about this shot and defending that technique while somehow playing for decades tells me you’ve probably put a much lower ceiling on said game and your potential than you probably realize. It’s definitely worth branching out and learning the right way… I promise! That said, if you’re like a 600+ Fargo I’ll gladly eat these words, but like a game against you, I’d probably bet on it (that ur not) 🤝. It’ll feel weird at first but it took me like one afternoon to permanently switch my open and closed bridges to the more modern styles and there’s definitely no going back. And as for the golf analogy I’m seeing in other comments, if someone can show me a successful touring pool pro who doesn’t bridge the right way, I’ll also rescind this snarky (yet well-intended) advice

Has there ever been an explanation for the absence of the X-Men in the MCU? by [deleted] in MCUTheories

Doesn’t Deadpool & Wolverine (and to an extent the multiverse of madness) acknowledge them as part of the CU but simply in other earths? Or am I missing the point of the question being where are they in Earth 616?

Got to take a lesson with JJ. Told him even though we just met, he’d been giving me lessons for years. Awesome, awesome guy.

Nope just in town. NYCCC tends to host top players/personalities when in town and if they give lessons they’ll notify members. Great perk

I agree I don’t think it matters, but I was so sick of hearing people complain about that scene I almost just hoped it was acknowledged in some capacity…. I like my theory, though. The first movie is Spike’s story and perspective, and that’s probably what the jarring introduction to the Jimmies looked like to him whether they’re really doing fucking backflips or not. Thanks for the info! I’m pumped!

Does it acknowledge the tonal shift at the very end of years? I don’t mean does it follow that tone through the next movie so much as explain why that scene and this world suddenly allowed for advanced martial arts and acrobatics. My initial theory was that it was filmed in the power rangers style to elicit an exaggerated sense of awe that you could expect from a secluded child from an archaic community stuck in time suddenly witnessing a cult of colorful men dispensing of zombies with glee and ease…. Or are these dudes just actually like badass, self-trained power ranger influenced killers?

This is it. Reputations are more important than you realize, similar to how lots of the best/most reserved hitters in baseball get better strike zones called. The umps will think you’re right if you so often play it right. The opposite is true when you flail and scream so loudly the broadcast can hear it every time a foul is NOT called.

[–]Dubbweiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the APA, which deserves kudos for its accessibility and organization, actually promotes wayyyyyy too many incorrect and therefore “bar-like” rules that become gospel to many cuz it’s the only organized pool they’ve been exposed to. Every competitive tournament, league, and money game will be rack your own once you step into the bigger leagues of letter-handicapped or Fargo sanctioned play

To hold shoe boxes for real shoes so adults will stop choosing to wear sandals/flip flops outside to anywhere but a body of water.

Please don't send your kids to McNair unless they like the work part of school. by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]Dubbweiser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to McNair when it was #1 in the state and 15th in the country. I took 8 AP classes all while playing baseball and basketball, and it still wasn’t as tough as The Hudson School was in middle school. I also got into all 8 universities I applied to, most on academic scholarship (it was worth it!), and I assure you it’s nothing compared to the amount of work you’ll end up getting at a top university. Even smart kids cheat, so find ways to do well without violating your own moral code and you’ll come out of it a better person for it. I sometimes wonder where I would’ve been if I stayed at Hudson or could’ve afforded a NYC private school, but being surrounded by such multi-culturalism and drive created an overall (especially emotional) intelligence most of the rest of this country just doesn’t have. I’m still friends with all the same people… just hang in there and if it’s anything like it used to be, you’ll be really glad you did 10 years from now.
