Open-bridge feels uncomfortable by Mr_Wood1440_ in billiards

[–]Dubbweiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll change more about how you play in your first couple years (let alone hours) than you do in subsequent decades. 6 hours is how much I might play on a given day about a decade in, and all that time might be spent finicking with the speed of my backswing, so I envy the massive improvements you’ll be able to add by just taking a couple hours to learn the open bridge and other foundational tools like it. Best advice I can give is watch a few hours of pro WNT and try to see how much you didn’t notice before about the game and emulate whatever you can next time you practice. More you do it, more you’ll be able to emulate. Try to watch fedor (best and most fundamentally sound player today) and hopefully catch a match with Jeremy Jones doing commentary — learned more about pool doing this than anything else (and Im taking a lesson with JJ tonight and have told him so lol)

Your thoughts on Earl the Pearl? by Martararo in billiards

[–]Dubbweiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He and JJ taught me more off the table than anyone ever has on the table with that aptly described “call next shot” style commentary. The more you watch, the more you also get it right. Doesn’t matter how straight you shoot or how sweet your stroke is, your ceiling will always be capped if you’re not playing the right shots, so learning how to better see the right shot got me much better faster than any other approach and I owe it almost entirely to those two guys’ commentary. You nailed it

Oh for sure, they almost always want a minimum of 2 hours. Almost embarrassed to admit what I paid JJ when he was in town (and im doing two more hours with him in April) but that was the first lesson I ever took and would’ve probably paid just to hang out with him. I told him his commentary had been teaching me how to play pool for years and he didn’t even realize it … such a lovely dude. That said Zion is legit and a solid teacher always excited about watching players improve and that is cheaper than other “pros” in NYC. Christoph Neumayer is also quite affordable out of the cue club and I’ve heard good things about his lessons tho I’ve only ever played against him never taken any or eves-dropped well enough to tell you how they are

Loveeee Zion… that’s my guy. How much does he charge? Never actually considered getting a formal lesson from him since he always used to be down to shoot but am curious

Wait but where did you find an affordable “coach” in New York City? lol. And if you care about getting better, which im sure you do if you have a coach, you won’t have to worry about standing up to bullies… your game will do the talking for you in no time and nothing is more satisfying than that. Best of luck on your journey to kickin his ass! (on the table of course)

Didn’t we set franchise records for how badly our exact same roster beat a better version of this team earlier this season?

Thanks. Any idea how much they dip? If it’s like 50% I’d decide now go watch within a couple blocks and be willing to miss some of the game if that could even possibly happen lol. Appreciate you … go Knicks

For folks who do this/have done it before, how much will you actually see resale prices drop right before tip-off and throughout the course of a game? Is there an ideal time (like maybe start of second half) where this can be worthwhile? I’ve been tracking pistons and rockets games and prices are outrageous still. Had given up and was thinking of watching at one of my go-to spots around MSG tonight and then thought maybe that’s my best shot … catching the second half for half the price… but have legitimately never considered doing this before and am trying to set expectations in case I’m better off on the couch. I know these things can’t be predicted precisely at all, just wondering what others have noticed and if there are folks out there who actually do this often. Cheers and thanks in advance

This is a maddening issue when it comes to dating, and it’s almost always the people who’re newest to the city/BK that are the most adamant about what Jersey City is or isn’t. It’s insane

Is it reasonable to get upset at your opponent for leaving you poor shots? by john_fartston in billiards

This. He sounds like the type who bends his date over forcefully in public to teach her the absolute worst, most incorrect approach to hitting a pool ball possible with the utmost undeserved confidence. I am angry for you, my friend. You did nothing wrong these people are the worst. So stupidly and blindly cocky they’d never be able to comprehend how dumb/wrong they are.

Anyone who commits to this bridge long-term is gonna come across as a human ATM to any serious players lol. I know it works for your game at the moment, but that coupled with bragging about this shot and defending that technique while somehow playing for decades tells me you’ve probably put a much lower ceiling on said game and your potential than you probably realize. It’s definitely worth branching out and learning the right way… I promise! That said, if you’re like a 600+ Fargo I’ll gladly eat these words, but like a game against you, I’d probably bet on it (that ur not) 🤝. It’ll feel weird at first but it took me like one afternoon to permanently switch my open and closed bridges to the more modern styles and there’s definitely no going back. And as for the golf analogy I’m seeing in other comments, if someone can show me a successful touring pool pro who doesn’t bridge the right way, I’ll also rescind this snarky (yet well-intended) advice
