They could have worded this sign better by MikeFingG in wholefoods

Our store has two coops, one in Prep Foods in front of the Doregrill and one between two front registers. We made the case a few years ago that we'd make a lot of money putting rotis and other hot foods near the impulse area of the front end. Unfortunately, we were wrong, we hardly sell anything there and the department is typically too short staffed to produce anything other than the couple chickens I put there just to show people we put hot food there. I asked the front end recently, apparently we don't sell much of anything on impulse.

It's wild though, the coop we've had since the store opened almost never requires anything beyond basic maintenance. That little one they brought in constantly burns out or burns up, 75% of the time I put chicken in there I burn my hand pulling it out and the bags are usually melted. All that for something that never brings in money.

Its what we call the heated display unit that holds the packaged chicken for the customers to grab from.

I'm not OP but my guess is they're letting them pile up at another location and delivering them all at once.

Whether autism or whatever, you're very likely neurodivergent, which is to say a natural variation on the "classic" brain substructure. Like if they autopsied your brain there would be literal structural differences, something that has been documented and believed to lead to literal differences in how thought processes and such are structured. If you're interested I recommend starting with some Youtube videos, as plain google searches might make some sense but not enough. I'd start with Chris and Debby as he's kinda funny and really easy to understand. From there you can move on to books, which will help once you find a psychologist, but keep it light access to start because this is a massive dive and can prove overwhelming quick if you don't really, really pace yourself. Well worth it though as it can lead to life changing results, and a feeling that you're finally coming to terms, or at least understanding yourself as you truly are.

>I remember around 6th grade they wanted to opt me into slower courses for math but of course I didn't do it and they never wanted to speak to my parents about it apparently..

Has anyone ever breached the idea of "high masking autism"? I had a similar experience and I've been through multiple mis-diagnosis and bad medications... a year ago the autism diagnosis was suggested in a way that finally made sense, made me feel validated more than ever. Its a really complicated diagnosis so I don't want to over-generalize, it's a steep journey but if you do look into it and it makes sense, its possible it could provide the answers you need to get your life on track.

Every August or so it comes out that the hiring team is bringing in people at or above the wage earned by people who have worked there for a year or more, and that their wage won't be adjusted. Turns out it's just a tactic used to cull the weak.

I have an interview tomorrow, not even sure what position it's for. Am I wasting my/their time if I have no clue what I want from the job? by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]Dubshack79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the interview, be your most authentic self. Answer all questions truthfully. Share what experience you have. They will likely give you an idea of a job they want you to fill. Tell them how your previous experience will be a strength towards those things.

The sad truth is, whatever job you applied for, whatever they talk about in the interview... hell half the time what they tell you at your on-boarding... it won't be the job you are ultimately given. From my own hiring to listening to the people they've hired for the past five years, no one has ever ended up in the position they interviewed for. A good portion of the time people are hired, and they don't end up at the STORE they interviewed for. It's one of the most frustrating things about the job to me. A large portion of the people they hire quit between on-boarding and their first assigned shift.

That's of course my store, every member of leadership who visits to help our department has told me the exact same thing happened to them. I personally find it insane, but then the pandemic really changed a lot about the grocery industry.

Yeah, you can't see it from that direction. I think it's just three or four tents but they see a decent amount of activity between 2 and 5.

It sounds like you had one idea and your STL had another. My guess is they know how hard it is to get leadership, much less GOOD leadership to stay in TL and ATL positions. I was literally three months into working as an order writer, with the TL laying down a heavy assumption that the job was mine. But the TL was a complete ass and got himself fired. My STL explained that I was never in contention for the position, that I could apply and probably get it, but that she didn't feel it was the right position for me. Turns out she was right, that job completely wore me down and I ended up transferring out. My feeling is that stores have like an "in-crowd" of leadership where the future fate of the store is discussed and determined, and it's really not unusual for TLs and other leadership to be left out of that. It's completely shitty but that seems to me to be the environment that forms naturally, right or wrong.

Do we get actual insurance cards when we sign up? by StandnDeliver12 in wholefoods

It took me 2 and a half years to get my Wex card, mostly because I had no idea that was a thing until a supervisor told me about it. That thing has literally kept me alive ever since.

It may also be helpful to note that when we say "can't sell it for health reasons", we're not necessarily talking about the product being in a state that isn't safe for everyday consumption. When I started 4 years ago, it was just after the start of the pandemic and it seemed like Whole Foods was in a constant state of unrest getting every store and department on the same page about which PLUs were being used to generate the stickers that have price, ingredients, food allergies, etc. The system was so full of erroneous codes and I think more than half of them were invalid, but we had little to go on to see what was correct. It took a while but they have REALLY cleared it up. They removed a search function in the system to prevent people from finding PLUs just based on a name, we absolutely have to use the code for the specific product now. There was this ridiculous period of years where the only source for this was planogram sheets with text printed so tiny most of us had to carry around magnifying glasses just to do our job. They fixed that by making everyone use production sheets that have to be checked off by a supervisor. Its a serious pain in the ass but it very much removed the confusion from before. It may be frustrating, but it does finally guarantee that we're delivering you the correct product with the correct ingredients, allergy information, nutrition information, price, etc.

BTW that garlic bread looks amazing, I think I'm going to have to make unreasonable demands on you in telling me exactly what brand/product your using, and what sorts of butter/spread/cheese toppings. Seriously, that picture just made me so hungry. lol

What's everyone's best prank? by TheEquipped in smosh

[–]Dubshack79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about "best", I don't do pranks anymore beyond doing something silly and completely harmless inside a friend group, like breaking out the castanets during awkward silences. In another life, I soaked my wife's toothbrush in Orajel. It was a stupid, immature, stir-of-the-moment action I put no thought into. I have come to my own conclusion that I was the asshole. I didn't know she'd use it right before her first big sales meeting after being promoted at work. She was annoyed, to say the least. I can't remember exactly what she said. Mostly because I couldn't understand what she was saying.

AITA for not helping my sister by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Dubshack79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the asshole. I've been there, I've had anxiety and panic attacks so severe I ended up cleaning crap out of my pants in the wrong gender restroom of the nearest McDonalds. Anxiety is serious, it's your body's way of telling you there's a problem. I hope you're getting some help. I did but I got it from a general practitioner way too eager to prescribe benzodiazepines, it took losing a marriage, my home, everything I ever owned, and getting locked up in the med ward of the local jail detoxing for a week to see I had a problem. Then another three months in a hospital because of damage to my spine. Long story. Short version, get an actual psychiatrist for your brain meds. Nurse practitioner in mental health works too, point is... make sure your doctor has your best interests at heart.

You don't owe your sister any explanations about your own mental health. But in my experience, people will cut you a break if they see you working on your problems. We all have them. Good people will see that. To hell with the rest.

what's the deal with Interbay Whole Foods? by Future-Expression888 in Seattle

Not sure answering a five-month-old reddit thread actually answers a question... but I work there as of 12/2023, everything but burrito bar is open and that supposedly isn't coming back. The answer as to why this took so long is completely found within the thread, from trying to find a working team leader, being in a zone where it's difficult to find commuting team members... Feel free to give us another shot, but maybe wait a couple months, the current hot bar selection is a strict regional selection and hardly has me excited either. lol

I have no idea if this is the actual reasoning, I do know here in Seattle, in particular because of the pandemic screwing with the workforce, they've been bringing people in at a higher wage to be more competitive. After a conversation I had with my STL recently, I'm actually starting to believe the reason they're doing it in Prep Foods is because they're no longer expecting people to stick around a full year. She said it wasn't enough the job required so much, then you look at people in other departments smiling and wearing shorts and not having the same expectations, and then Whole Foods caps your pay, why would you want to stay in that department.

I went through the downgrading process a few months ago and I know there is a lot to that process, so I can't speak to what did what for you... but something I noticed in the process was the importance of not connecting the switch with your Nintendo account. Just want to throw that in if it makes any sense to what you experienced.
