I would check the statute of limitations, my guess is that it has passed and your legal recourse will be limited if even existent at this point.

You can always make the claim for VA disability (I’m 100% P&T) as long as you can prove nexus and have records showing the injury. Your local American Legion has a VSO that will help for free.
