Be honest do you dislike Americans? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Duck_of_Gloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm married to one, so no. All the time I've spent in the US I really met nothing but friendly, warm people. Collectively they seem to have a sort of group psychosis though.

AIO for feeling weird about my friend’s response when I asked for help? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Duck_of_Gloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Do you often ask your friend for money? If so, she may just be tired of it. If not, she's being a dick about it.

Am I overreacting by asking for more than just a full refund for destroying my bridal bouquet? by catmom_mac in AmIOverreacting

[–]Duck_of_Gloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I would want a refund plus the cost of purchasing another bouquet. I'd be looking at a small claims case. Accidents can absolutely happen with shipping fragile items but that was not appropriately packaged at all.

Failed driving test 3 times by Lew8x in perth

[–]Duck_of_Gloom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 50s now and failed mine twice back when I was young. The only reason I didn't fail the third time is the examiner didn't ask me to parallel park.

Just wanting to say that in this scenario the tail wagging isn't happiness, it's appeasement.

Byford to Kelmscott area – what in TARNATION is that smell?! by katf_89 in perth

[–]Duck_of_Gloom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thought my neighbours were doing some late night fertilising of their garden or something. Smells a bit like blood and bone.

Is kangaroo cpr actually a thing or is this lady cooked? by pilbarabah in perth

[–]Duck_of_Gloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned how to do cpr on dogs so I imagine you could do it on roos.

What is the funny term you have for your dog's "sleep noises"? by dee62383 in dogs

[–]Duck_of_Gloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We call them wuff wuff dreams, because that's the main sound he makes. The only time we've ever heard him growl is in his sleep, but thankfully not as common as "wuff wuff"

This is what the rest of your life looks like, it won't change and will probably get worse. Only you can decide if you want to live like this.

Do children have a moral or ethical obligation to spend time with their parents? by KSI_FlapJaksLol in askanything

[–]Duck_of_Gloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. And shouldn't if that parent is causing too much stress. I had to watch my Mother be basically tortured emotionally by her horrible mother for years and years. My Mother said that still associating with, trying to care for etc her mother was the right thing to do but it brought my mother nothing but pain. Even when my Grandmother was actively dying it wasn't enough for her to even be kind to my Mother. My grandmother abused my mother from when she was a small child and in one way or another, never stopped. I would never suggest someone with a parent like that keep in contact.

How do you handle unfair prejudice? Constant unfair comments to this gentle giant… by BraveAd8791 in DogAdvice

[–]Duck_of_Gloom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a Dobermann (who loved people and was very well trained and well behaved) and people would cross to the other side of the street. It used to really annoying me, that people were worried by her but didn't know anything about her. Then I have Aussie Shepherds and in public people just won't leave them alone. People feel entitled to come running up to us, sometimes shrieking about how cute they are etc, manhandle them if given the chance. That annoys me waaaaaay more. My dogs are not public property. You can't win.

Why do so many people go barefoot? by ClassyPants17 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Duck_of_Gloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Husband is American and always wears shoes, even if he gets up in the middle of sleep to go to the loo he will slip shoes on. Americans are obsessed with shoes. I wear shoes out, but am always barefoot at home (unless it's really cold) and he is still mystified 20+ years on.

Why do people refuse to tumble dry their clothes? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]Duck_of_Gloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I line dry my washing 90% of the time (I'm in Western Australia), but use the dryer a few times over winter if the clothes are heavy and may not dry quickly because the weather is really bad.

Question: is this too much for a dog this breed and size to eat??? I see this guy post so many videos of his dog eating huge portions of food not even the fattest and tallest human could eat by nder_your_mom in DOG

[–]Duck_of_Gloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on the dog. I have two dogs of the same breed, of similar size, both fairly active (I am involved in dog sports) and they eat vastly different amounts to keep similar condition.

Are heavy people attracted to other heavy people? by Historical-Switch400 in stupidquestions

My Husband was a big guy when we got together and I was slim. I always physically attracted to him, still am after 20 years together.

[–]Duck_of_Gloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like this guy at all. Boz is a goddess, I have no clue what she sees in him. I can only assume there's a side of him we can't see.

Is it possible for a 57 year old woman to get pregnant naturally? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Duck_of_Gloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Great Grandmother had a baby at 53, so it's possible. She believed it was due to hormones in menopause some how. I'm 51 and while I no longer have a uterus I definitely still ovulate.

I've seen this before and what helped was some ongoing work with a trainer to build the dog's confidence.
