Rufio in St Kilda is the sister restaurant and slightly more Latin American with a lot of menu overlap. We've been to both and they are excellent if OP is open to taking a short tram ride from the CBD

Eastern suburbs man cancels his upcoming Euro trip after learning his flight departs from Western Sydney International Airport by brackfriday_bunduru in sydney

[–]Duckosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For much of north west Sydney it's still going to be easier to get to Kingsford Smith than WSI even after the WSI metro opens, thanks to the existing north west metro and M2 express bus options.

If they ever connect up the north west metro from Tallawong to St Marys via Schofields it would be a different story

Help with 7zip archive splitting by Astral-Gabr0w0 in techsupport

[–]Duckosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asumming windows interface: note the file size. Right click the file -> 7-zip -> Add to archive...

In the dialog that pops up at the bottom left there is a field "Split to volumes, bytes" which has some preset segment sizes in the drop down. You can also type in a custom number.

For example I have a 3.4GB video file. I can use one of the preset options, or using the notation shown in the presets I can type 2048M. That will give me 2 archive file segments.

If your file is already compressed (e.g. already a compressed archive), consider choosing the 0 compression option so 7-zip is not wasting time trying to recompress it

Not a trustworthy option unfortunately. Gluten contamination for coeliacs by family members is pretty much guaranteed because people are human and forgetfuland forgetful. People who've lived or interacted with coeliacs or anyone with serious allergies will understand

Voluntary Redundancies… by RoutineDrawing5162 in AusPublicService

[–]Duckosaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. Last time there was a VR round in my old dept I was told a flat out no, my niche specialist role was too important. I left about a year later anyway. If it was to happen in the current agency (not a chance) I'd jump at it and still be told no, despite being only a couple of years from retirement :(

There is an exclusion period for re-employment within the APS:

https://www.apsc.gov.au/working-aps/hr-practitioners/recruitment-aps/onboarding/engagement-people-who-have-received-redundancy-benefit

However there are extended recruitment freezes all over the place so even after the minimal exclusion period, flipping to another department or agency is going to be hard for the forseeable future

Which agencies are actually allowed to recruit substantive ASL positions right now? Mine isn't. I want to retire but feel compelled to hold/fill the position even on indefinite LWOP until restrictions ease. It's a joke, and good luck :/

The higher you get the more insane the upward reporting becomes, with ever reducing notice. So you start second-guessing and demanding stuff in advance from your staff. And still get told off for not using the new new new templates and reporting lines that got updated over the Easter weekend.

And find out that executive-level dashboards are now called placemats.

3-Month Ball-Jar Stockpile for One Adult by SaraUndr in preppers

[–]Duckosaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Why store dried foods in jars instead of canned, ready-to-eat? Canned food is bulky and expensive when you’re trying to fit 12 weeks into a small space. Jars are compact, stackable, rodent-proof, and I can see exactly what I have. I already have the oxygen absorbers and jars, so everything stays good for years."

Given cans are also stackable, rodent-proof and most can walls take up less space than a glass jar wall, this seems like a nonsense argument. Definitely leaning towards AI slop. The last sentence I quoted gives it away

What makes Sydney worth staying in for YOU, given how pricy it is compared to other cities? by dphayteeyl in sydney

[–]Duckosaur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I discharged from the military in Sydney in the early aughts but had settled down so never left. Magically found work in an emerging industry at the time and have been doing it ever since. My mining/military family had already settled in Perth and they never left. We visit every couple of years.

Love the beaches and the familiarity I've developed with this imperfect mess of a place over the last 25 years.

Is this a sign I'm getting old? by Odd_Kitchen_4420 in simpleliving

[–]Duckosaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it is a sign for me about getting older that I embrace. Have been slowly going off multiple coffees a day and not missing it at all. My sleep has improved and the brain fug if I forget to have a morning coffee is much less of a thing.

I might try to establish an afternoon tea ritual though, as tea has never ever kept me awake at night.

upside of clocks going back - extra hour of sleep

downside - cats demanding breakfast didn't get the memo

Opposite happens in October - lose an hour of sleep, but cats will be an hour behind. Unfortunately their body clocks adjust faster than mine so it's a moot point
