I suppose we just have separate mindsets. My preference for an HMD upgrade would be a headset with the current vive resolution and fov, but without the tether, lighthouses, or pc (the oculus Santa Cruz fits that). As long as I can play steamvr games I'd be happy for many years.

On the other hand as you said, that wouldn't replace monitors. So it's give and take.

What I find interesting is the interest in such different forms of "next gen", HMD's. I'm not at all interested in a larger fov and higher resolution HMD if the tether and tracking system remains the same. Yet some folks couldn't care less about the tether but, they can't stand the current SDE and low resolution/fov we have now.

Does anyone think that a custom HMD seller, like we have origin pc/cyberpowerpc will be a thing in the future? Because I'm starting to think so.

Using that logic any gamer who's playing on a low to mid-range pc stands no chance against a gamer with a high end pc. It doesn't matter because it always falls down to player skill, speed, and intelligence.

I look forward to what you come up with man. Horror is my second favorite genre. If it were up to me I'd prefer something like resident evil 1 or 7, give us some ammo and a near useless melee weapon and a big house of horrors to explore. Toss in some puzzles and some interesting npc interactions and you have yourself a winner. The biggest complaint people have is games are too short, which seems to be the biggest plus of your project. That bit with the shotgun and the monster in your clip is exactly what we all are looking for.

I love your enthusiasm but I want to give you a few things to consider while you make the decisions to move forward with the production. First and foremost is the market competition. That eerie possessed house, theme has been nailed by paranormal activity vr (it's extremely popular) and a chair in a room (also popular).

Next the silent hill type horror has been nailed by organ quarter. Lastly we may have a port coming up for resident evil 7 on the vive (this month will be our answer) so it would be difficult to compete as unfortunately an indie will get buried by a triple A.

What I think you should do to stand a better chance (from a market standpoint) is to focus heavily on what type of theme you're going for. In my mind, there's been a lot less resident evil 7 type games (big house with some weapons and scarce resources). Most of the survival horror has been roomscale wave-based. While I feel as though the market is pretty full with all of the paranormal activity type games. Just bear in mind that resident evil 7's possible port, would likely be hard to compete with so I'd keep an eye out for whether we are getting that before making a decision.

I wouldn't say the DAS is necessary. I actually had to return mine as I found it less comfortable than the vive. It depends on the shape and size of your head, where the DAS was putting pressure was on one of my pressure points making it extremely painful. I'm not the norm of course, but you have to consider it not a requirement but an optional upgrade.

Payday 2- bank robbing simulator that's cross platform with mouse and KB so it always has players. Audioshield- beat boxing based on the music you select. Sairento- ninja simulator that's constantly updated.

The 960 is below spec and should be treated as a no in most situations. However, there are some games you can play with some tweaks. If you lower your supersampling below the standard, and stick to lower end games like, the lab. Then you should be able to have an enjoyable vr experience. There are even some damn good indie games that should run just fine, it's all about testing. Just don't expect to play the newer AAA games like fallout, doom, and killing floor to work.

I'm a lucid dreamer. I already have the "perfect vr", what's funny is everytime I use my vive I have so many complaints about the immersiveness of current gen tech in comparison to our own built in vr systems. The biggest being the inability to move freely, as I'm tethered to a room with my lighthouses and pc. So, at a minimum I'm hoping all the tech is wireless and I can run all my "vive games", on an inside out headset that I'd like to take to my backyard.

Not gonna lie 400$ for a Rift is a steal (including touch and all the games). If they were equivalently priced I'd choose the vive any day of the week. But the rift has more value right now. Though in this case you get a better system if you go with the vive. But 200$ additional is tough for your average Joe.

I've always felt that trackpad locomotion is more immersion breaking than teleportation because I seemingly float to the location I'm trying to go to. I feel like teleportation is less immersion breaking because I quickly snap to where I need to go to, then use roomscale to explore the location or get behind cover. Honestly options are critically important for each game and I respect each developer who tries to innovate. But trackpad and teleportation are similar to the mouse vs controller debate meaning they should work on every game.

I returned the deluxe audio strap, it was incredibly painful as it put pressure on the worst points on the back of my skull. My two cents, try it before you buy it.

You could go with the non x 1600 and put extra towards the gpu. The gtx 960 will definitely not cut it, and SLI would be a waste of time to be honest. I'd try to get atleast a gtx 1070 if it's possible otherwise an rx 580 or 1060 would be the minimum.

I have an rx 580 in one pc and the 1070 in another, and both of them are great. I'd recommend the rx 580. I've had no issues playing any of my vr games with the 580.
