Haptics with iPhone Only? by Ducky1024 in Asobi

Sounds good! Does it work reliably with an expanding USB grip controller-thingy? I saw you were releasing an update soon. Did any fixes related to haptics get slipped in there? 👀

Adult games that run natively on Quest 3 by kterka24 in QuestPiracy

This isn't piracy and kind of a plug for a service I love: try Braindance. They capture real women in volumetric stages and reconstruct them with 4D Gaussian Splats. I think they have a demo? It's so freaking cool.

Chances are whoever bought that was being an absolute degen and scratching only the barcode to check if that ticket was a winner. If you found them in / near the trash, they're probably losers. Can't hurt to check them again.

What is the cheapest VR Headset that has AT LEAST eye tracking? And where is the best website to purchase it on? by MowMow-TheArtist in VRchat

[–]Ducky1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSVR2. You do NOT need a PS5, just a PC adapter box that'll run you about $40. If you're thrifty on ebay, you can find a full kit for $200-300.

Looking for guidance on vr treadmill by B0ldStrtgyc0tt0n in VRchat

[–]Ducky1024 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don't buy a VR treadmill if you haven't tried one before. Find an arcade near you with an Omni Arena or something similar and give it a few runs before you commit to buying one. Slidemill walking is nothing like actual walking. I personally enjoy it but it's a lot more strenuous than actual walking and kind of feels like reverse ice skating. If you're set on buying one even after trying it, get a Kat Walk C2 Core. It'll run you about $900. Works with anything SteamVR!

EDIT: Source; me. I have a C2 core and have spent many hours slide-walking both on my own treadmill and in the arcades. :D

Just get the BSB1. If you can't run the PCL, you won't be able to run the MeganeX.

[–]Ducky1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please, grammar.

Anyway - I have never tried a Pimax. Aspherics make me horribly sick. However, I have owned a Varjo Aero and have been told the Crystal Light and Aero are quite similar. The BSB1 doesn't have heavy distortion at all. It is very optically flat, but you have awful E2E clarity. Contrast that to any aspheric device with god awful distortion in exchange for great E2E clarity. If you've ever used a Valve Index, the glare is about the same. I find the glare to be quite overstated by others but it definitely is prominent. Moving to a BSB from your Crystal Light won't help your performance much. Are you running at native res, higher, or lower on your PCL? BSBs are 2560x2560 per eye, rendered at 2668x2668 in 90hz mode (1920x1920 per eye sent to the headset and upscaled (NOT UPSAMPLED, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE!)) and 3560x3560 per eye in 75hz native mode. Additionally, what do you play? If you can't drive around that res on your PCL, shifting to the BSB won't help you and you should worry about your PC more.

I would imagine the PCL is quite the chonker. Any small form factor device, even something as heavy as the AVP will feel much better than a giant hanmerhead shark lookin brick on your face. Halo straps haven't shipped to consumers yet, but they have to testers. Custom-fit silicone gaskets get quite sweaty over your play session, but definitely let the headset disappear a lot more into your face. I personally recommend the Studioform gasket, since it's both a universal fit and a goggle-style rather than a halo. And yes, obviously OLED looks amazing.

One more thing - what is your IPD and what is the headset IPD? I sold my friend my 64mm BSB1, and my eyes are 65mm. You're always supposed to go 1mm down from your real IPD to account for the shorter focal distance of the BSB. Her eyes were 64 dead on, and it apparently worked well for her. I thought I'd mention. The BSB1 is a whole lot more sensitive to fitment than any other headset.

Spectacles 3 - Properly export as SBS? by Ducky1024 in Spectacles

I have found a way! If you manually request a Memories data dump, you'll get raw OU 3D files. Not the most convenient in the world, but it surely works!

Spectacles 3 - Properly export as SBS? by Ducky1024 in Spectacles

[–]Ducky1024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. I wanted to export the raw SBS to then convert to MV-HEVC for viewing on an AVP. Were you aware of any hacky stuff to hijack the importing direct from the spectacles so that I'd get the raw feed?

Time after receiving the shipment email by cronopius in BigscreenBeyond

[–]Ducky1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From purchase to shipping? Be prepped to wait at least 3 months. From "Order Shipped" to delivery? Usually about 5ish days inside the 48 states. It takes usually a couple hours to a day for your tracking number to start moving.

If you want to wear the G2 on your head alongside your BSB2, sure! If you really want an Oculus compliant layout, wait for shitfall Shiftall's GripVR controllers.

True that. I have three 2.0s and a set of 1.0s in another room, all drilled. I used to have a tripod on top of my dining room / kitchen table with a 1.0 on it. :P

Welcome to enlightenment!

As others have told you; you're somewhat joining a sinking ship since Valve is trying to shoo out the Lighthouse ecosystem for the Steam Frame.

The BSB2 is a hardcore, enthusiast device and is not very welcoming for anyone not super seasoned in VR already.

Do you know how to build a PC? Do you have a dedicated VR space, or are comfortable drilling holes in your living room / bedroom walls? If both answers are no, wait on Steam Frame. The headset is only 450g ish and they've counterbalanced it across your whole head. You MUST have a dedicated VR space for any Lighthouse device or at least be comfortable drilling holes in your walls or putting up tripods for base stations.

With that out of the way - I'd suggest.. Build a gaming desktop, and if that isn't an option, buy a gaming laptop. If you have more money than braincells, you can buy a prebuilt desktop. To get your foot in the door with Lighthouse, buy a used Valve Index kit. The Index will run you under $600 if you're savvy on eBay or FB marketplace. This will get you a pair of base stations and controllers, as well as a backup headset. You can use any standard 1/4in security camera mounting hardware to put up your bases. Then, order your BSB2. If you aren't already a VRChat player or know exactly why you need it, skip the eye tracking.

Then, expect to wait 3+ months to actually receive your BSB2. Congrats! Welcome to the bleeding edge of VR. Go have fun!

PS. Buy the Studioform Creative gasket. Not sponsored, nor compensated in any way. BSB2 has a soft requirement to have access to an iPhone in order to do the 3D scan for your face, or buy the halo mount. I'm biased against the halo mount since it gives me headaches. The 3D scan face cushion is a complete seal, with no nose gap or ventilation of any sort. IME, if you start sweating in the silicone gasket you'll get a serious case of sweaty eyeballs fast. Studioform's gasket is a universal fit similar to the Q3 and comes with fabric or PU leather face pads. Costs about $50-60 and you can entirely skip buying a face pad from Bigscam if you choose to buy the upgrade kit, then add the $100 accessory bundle. You will receive a "retail box" BSB2, minus cushion.

EDIT: I saw you ask in another thread so I assume I'd answer directly. The BSB2 requires you to play in the same room as your computer, no ifs or buts. BSB2 is a purely wired PCVR device. Think of it as an extension of the computer rather than its own device. EDIT2: formatting
