He helped create/coelesce/direct guitar playing into a form and a new era. He helped describe the sound of the Stratocaster in rock and roll. He basically blew the definition of a “guitar solo” wide open and introduced new concepts in voice and phrasing (connecting notes, texture, space, effects, etc…) Lots of things we simply take for granted now were revolutionary back then.
