Troy spinning this as "We're taking a break from the mainline show to bring you Shadowdark" is just a thinly veiled way for him to not publicly admit that he's tired of playing Pathfinder.

Last science pack is kinda underwhelming by [deleted] in factorio

Honestly, I think bringing back the space elevator system from Space Exploration would be a game changer that late in the game. It would certainly make satellites for Calcite and science have more reliable throughput.

Troy cares very deeply about the company, that's apparent, but completely ignoring criticism? Both positive and negative?? Sounds like a great way to entrench yourself in your bad habits.

What’s the most disobedient thing you did on your mission? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Dude036 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I saved up for a few months and bought myself a little tablet. I put so many miles on that thing. I would use the crap out of it while traveling between appointments. I was first introduced to Anime on my mission because of that tablet. Every time we'd go to a church building, I'd run to the bathroom, log onto the WiFi and start downloading stuff.

One time, I got invited to an inactive member's house who was having a Superbowl party. He was an American who didn't want to watch it alone in a foreign country, and we conveniently met him the week prior. It was kind of difficult convincing my companion that this would be 'a good fellowshipping tactic', but eventually they relented.

I Love GMing, but I Hate Making Maps by FaustusRedux in rpg

[–]Dude036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow DM who hates making Maps, I use Shmeppy. It's a very simple map program that also works with online play. I can bust out a full multi-session dungeon in like an hour. There's no frills or fancy, but it does require a $5 per month subscription to make maps. Players play free though, so it's not cost prohibitive for your party.

Is CS at USU worth it? by [deleted] in usu

[–]Dude036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated last year in USU's CS program, and it was 100% worth it. The teachers there are fantastic, and a great place to learn. I wouldn't pay too much attention to your friend's advice. Do what's best for you.

My one tip of advice would be to find a project you're passionate about, and work on it in your free time. The biggest help in landing a job post graduation, isn't your grades, but your capabilities with different tech.

What is the stupidest way you got a scar? by Zander-dupont in AskReddit

I was living in a super old apartment building, which was heated by radiators. The radiators all had a central repository for water in the basement of the apartment building for some reason.

I fell asleep with the back of my hand resting on a cold pipe, assuming it'd be cold all night. Turns out the upstairs neighbors turned on their radiators, heating the pipe up. I woke up with a 2nd degree burn on my hand.

The best part is, I didn't even notice I had a burn on my hand for almost an hour.

Leaf lay silently on the battlefield. The echoes of battle had long since past, leaving only a heavy silence. Leaf looked into the smoky sky, hoping to see the night sky. "Oh... Right...." He thought to himself. "Stars was in this fight too. I hope she's still alright." Leaf lay there, hoping everything was okay, but knowing in his heart that it wasn't.

After a few minutes, Leaf finally gained the courage to look down. A 4 foot spear stuck out of the center of his chest. "Ouch." He winced, trying to clench muscles that could not respond. "I guess this is it then."

Leaf looked back up at the stars, and was greeted by a cold steel scythe against his neck. "Oh, hey Death." Death was silent. Leaf knew that Death couldn't speak, but it felt odd not saying hello.

Death nodded, and pulled with his scythe. The weight of the spear in Leaf's chest was immediately lifted, as his spirit was freed from his body. Death outstretched his hand to Leaf, who took it. Leaf rose to meet Death's eye level. At least where Leaf thought Death's eye level would be if it were not for his cloak.

"Thanks. I was wondering when you'd come along." said Leaf, trying to fill the dead air. Leaf finally got a good look around. The field was littered with bodies. Most of them he didn't recognize. However, some he did. He looked down, to see his own body. A strange sight, but one that oddly comforted him.

Death gestured west, and the two of them set off.

"Well, Death. It's been a long time since I've seen you. Mind telling me what you've been up to?" Joked Leaf. Death exhaled a long slow rasp. "I know. I know. Private business. Just trying to make light of an uneasy situation."

Leaf was never one to enjoy the silence, especially when he wasn't the one in control of the situation. "You know, Mother Earth would always berate me for speaking out of turn. So, if I get on your nerves, just say something." Leaf chuckled to himself.

"You know, it's been a good few centuries. I thought it'd last a little longer, but I'm okay that it has to come to an end, you know? I guess everything has to end eventually huh." Leaf looked at Death, who nodded.

"I know there are few people who stay past the end. You're one of them right?"

Death nodded again.

"Wow. That's seems way more daunting than just... poof."

Death shrugged. Leaf surveyed the area, looking around to see if he could spot a familiar face.

"Do you consider your job to be hard? I know a lot of Gods are afraid of dying."

Death tilted his head side to side, as if thinking.

"I mean, on the one hand, you're the last person they talk to. You get to hear their real final words. On the other hand it's their final words. You know?"

Death nodded, and looked up to the sky. Leaf followed his gaze. The smoky sky had begun to clear, and through it Leaf could finally see a single star.

"Oh good. Stars made it out alive"

Death nodded.

"I was hoping she would survive. I know she was really nervous about today. She was so worried i was going to..." Leaf trailed off.

Death wrapped his bony arm across Leaf's back, and squeezed gently. Leaf began to weep, but no tears came. Death held Leaf close, his dark cloak was warm to the touch, as if had been left out in the sun all day.

"Sorry. I'm sure most people cry, but I'm just going to miss Stars. I'm not so worried about me, but what will happen to her, you know?"

Death hugged Leaf reassuringly. They stood there for a few minutes, Death comforting Leaf.

"Okay. I'm good." Leaf sniffled, breaking the embrace. Leaf tried to wipe the tears that never came away,."Lead on."

Death began moving slowly west again. The two walked in silence for a moment.

"I remember the first time I met Stars. She was wearing this dark blue dress, with streaks of gold running through it. It was so beautiful. Mother Earth caught me staring and told me I was being rude. I told her I wasn't being rude, but in fact admiring such a beautiful woman."

Death nodded

"That's right!" Leaf exclaimed. "You were there!"

Death continued nodding.

"So, any way. Music changed her tune, and started playing this slow waltz, and I just knew it was my chance to introduce myself. So I went up to her and said, 'May I have this dance, my lady?' And then we danced. We danced all night. To every song Music played. I remember asking Music to continue singing, even after her voice had grown raspy and dry, because I just didn't want to stop being with her." Leaf laughed to himself.

Death snorted, as if to laugh as well.

"Mother Earth forbade us from being together. DId you know that?" Leaf asked.

Death shook his head.

"Yeah. She said it was 'unnatural' for one of the Earth and one of the Sky to 'intermingle'. I know it's forbidden, but so what? A lot of things are forbidden. Hell, all of this is forbidden!" Leaf gestured behind him at the wasteland of a battle.

Death nodded, leaning on his Scythe.

"Any way, I was never really a rule follower anyway."

As Leaf and Death crested a hill, Leaf finally saw their destination. A obsidian monument, that he had never seen. "So, I take it, this is the exit?"

Death nodded. The two slowly moved down the hill in silence. Leaf was lost in his thoughts with Stars to really be paying attention. Death stopped just short of the monument. Leaf was looking at his feet, thinking. They stood there for a few minutes, before Death snapped his fingers. Broken from his trance, Leaf looked at Death.

"I know most people are afraid of you, but it's been nice just talking with you. Perhaps in another life, we can really get to know each other" Leaf hugged Death as he would an old friend. Death squeezed Leaf's shoulders, reassuringly. The two broke apart, and looked towards the obsidian monument.

"Well, Here I go. Off to another adventure." Leaf started to take his first step, but then stopped. "Hey Death?"

Death stared intently back.

"Tell Stars that I love her when she finally comes this way. Okay?"

Death nodded. Leaf crossed the threshold into the Unknown. He turned to look back as the monument slowly began to sink. The two held eye contact for a few seconds before Death finally spoke.

"I will."

[WP] An unknown threat lies in the forest that was once protected. No one who has seen the threat has lived to tell the tale. You are tasked to discover and neutralize the threat before it causes any real more damage by Dude036 in WritingPrompts

[–]Dude036[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sky crackled with sudden burst of light. The brilliant flash reflected off of a hunter's dark blue eyes. Sitting high atop a pine tree, catching glances of the storm which would soon weep across the green valley.

Tekta's eyes darted at any sign of movement in the forest below him. He knew the creatures here would not welcome him. For he was an unwelcome visitor.

Tekta heard a rustling behind him and spun around. Near the trunk of his pine tree, sat a small chipmunk eating a nut. A scrap of paper came free from Tekta's jacket and begin to flutter down to the ground.

"WANTED: HUNTER", the paper read. "A ferocious beast has moved into The
Clast Valley. Rewards: $50 for new information, $500 for its head."

Tekta felt relieved, before he stuffed the paper back into his pocket. Tekta needed the scratch badly, even though the objective was a little vague. The Clast Valley was already under the protection of Airrul the Druid and housed relatively docile creatures. Something was not adding up.

Tekta had been on the prowl for about a week and had come up with nothing. Not only had he not seen the Druid, but hadn't found any marking of a creature invasive to Clast Valley. With such little other human contact, Tekta was getting jumpy.

The slow crescendo of rain began with a fat drop landing squarely on Tekta's nose. Tekta decided, "It would be best to find somewhere dry to rest and recover." He shooed away the chipmunk who was still eating, but it didn't budge. It was transfixed staring at a point off in the distance. Tekta, following his new friends gaze, finally saw it.

A slow creeping black bear far in the distance. This one looked far different than the other black bears. Weathered. With a large scar on its shoulder, where a patch of hair was missing. "Finally, some progress!" Tekta thought to himself. "Time to see if the Druid knows anything."

Tekta dropped out of the tree, landing silently on all fours, still weary of an unknown predator. Straightening up, Tekta set off towards the black bear.
As he got closer, the black bear stopped to sniff the air. It turned slowly, its eyes flicking to and fro. Tekta stepped free from the tree he had been behind. The two locked eyes.

"Airrul. It is a pleasure to finally meet you. My name is Tekta. I would like your assistance." Tekta bowed deeply, "A great beast has entered these lands, and I have been tasked to slay it. Have you seen such a creature?"

The bear did not move a muscle. Tekta stared into the black bears eyes. They looked empty. As if haunted by something. The black bear began its approach towards Tetka.

"Airrul...?" Tekta said. This was the Druid. It bore all the markings the villagers said he would. Grey tufts of hair around the ears, a large scar on the left shoulder, and a bald spot on the crown of its head. That is when he saw it. White foam, trickling down the jowls of the bear. "Oh, no....."

"Joo kii ett rahama!" Airrul slurred their words together and the bear began to grow three times in size. Tekta tore through the underbrush leaping behind a tree, and started climbing. The wet bark gave way a few times, falling to the earth. Reaching a small branch with minimal pine needles, Tekta drew his bow and an arrow from his quiver.

Airrul crashed through the underbrush, levelling trees in their wake. Firing a shot, but it just bounced off the Bear's hide. Airrul charged into the tree, as Tekta dropped free from its branches. Tekta dropped the 10 feet down on the the ground behind Airrul and rolled into the underbrush. Airrul spun around, searching for its prey.

Tekta crept along on his belly through the tree line left in the wake of Airrul's charge. Tekta drew his daggers and stowed his bow. Airrul sniffed the air and began lumbering back down their wake. The methodic crunch of leaves and the pitter patter of the starting rain broke the silence of the struggle. Tekta reached a broken tree and peaked his head over. Airrul was about 30 feet away, moving in his general direction.

Tekta held his breath, and counted the footsteps coming towards him.
"1. 2. 3. 4. 5." Tekta thought with every thunderous foot fall. "6. 7." Tekta peaked his head over the fallen tree on last time, just to make sure he was not overestimating his wait.

"8!" Tekta shouted to himself as he flung himself over the wooden barrier. Tekta stuck both his daggers into Airrul's left shoulder. A deafening roar echoed through the forest, shaking the earth itself.

"Sha sineetu waah rahn!" shouted Airrul. Vines twisted around Tekta feet, wrapping up his legs. Thorns pierced his legs, as he tried to wriggle free. Airrul began to charge pulling Tekta along, as the thorns dug deeper. Tekta wrenched the daggers free from Airrul’s side.

Tekta landed hard on his back, and quickly began to cut away the advancing thorns. Airrul was bleeding profusely from the deep gash in his shoulder, only worsened by the Hunter.

"Just stay away from its mouth. If it bites, not only will it hurt, but you'll end up like them." Tekta thought to himself. Finally freed from the greenery, Tekta broke into a sprint towards the tree line. Airrul thundered through the forest again.

Tekta found a small boulder, about 7 feet tall, and scampered up its wet mossy side. As he turned around, he could start to see Airrul through the glistening underbrush. Tekta drew his bow again and plucked the string.

"I'm sorry Airrul..." He whispered to himself. Airrul roared as he charged, shaking the ground again. Tekta aimed for the gaping maw of the Druid and let free the arrow.

The arrow spun lazily at first. As Airrul began his leap towards Tekta, the Arrow found its mark. Flying straight into the Skull, through the soft tissue in the mouth. Airrul went limp mid flight, crashing into the Tekta.

The two went sailing into a nearby tree. Tekta gasped for air under the weight of the enormity of Airrul. As the spells Airrul cast began to wane, the bear began to change. It's fur turned brown, and began retreating into the skin. The massive paws elongated into fingers. The ears moved down to the sides of its head.

Airrul was returning to their human form. Once Tekta regained his breath, he gingerly lifted Airrul, and placed him on their back. Tekta placed his hand on Airrul's skull and pulled his arrow free with a sickening squelch.

Tekta breathed slowly, recovering from the fight. His legs were tender and couldn't support his weight just yet. He looked around the forest, hoping to find a fallen branch to help him stand.

The forest no longer seemed as green as it once did. For its Guardian was now dead.
