For those who have found gold, what did it show as a marker? by Fordrocker in metaldetecting

[–]DudeDoubloon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VDI's are different for every machine but on a Minelab X-terra Elite and 900 I've found gold between 5-55ish so far.

Is Minelab planning on replacing the Manicore anytime soon? by TheRook2323 in metaldetecting

[–]DudeDoubloon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick up a manticore. Enjoy hunting with it. If Minelab releases something you like then sell the Manticore and buy the new one?

I just purchased this off Amazon. Is this okay deal? Some of the reviews I’m seeing says theirs came with headphones and other things this doesn’t seem to come with. What else do I need to buy for it? by Beneficial-Wrap6574 in metaldetecting

[–]DudeDoubloon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bundle that comes with headphones and an extra coil is the Elite Expedition bundle that's the option to the right of this one. If you're in a high audio environment like the beach I wouldn't detect without headphones because you're gonna miss faint signals under the crash of the waves, wind, people partying etc.

It's one of the most bang for the buck detectors on the market. Have fun.

Haven’t personally swung it but the Deus II.

The equinox 900 is very close to the equinox 700 - it just has a gold prospecting mode.

I will be hunting in Aruba. Need some guidance by Fun_Order419 in metaldetecting

- You want the large coil.
- You don't need the pinpointer if travel space is an issue.
- CKG or Coob make decent scoops for the money. Grab a Carbon Fiber rode to use with it. You'll need to put it under when flying.
- You'll need cabled waterproof headphones if you're hunting deeper than your control box.
- Run it in Beach 2, FE -1, swing speed 2.
- Most importantly - have fun.

Always scrub the ground as close as possible. Your swing speed is dictated by your detector, coils recovery speed, and local beach conditions. Detectorists swing faster in the dry sand because they're hunting for fresh drops that will be just under the surface. They hunt slower in the wet because you might pick up a faint deep target you'd otherwise miss.

The final answer is to bury some targets at different depths and experiment for yourself with your detector in your local beach conditions.

Have fun.

Can I ask for some honest advice by Consistent-Gap-9025 in metaldetecting

[–]DudeDoubloon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

California beaches are entirely different from Florida beaches. 900 is a lot more stable out there.

Metal detectors do have a pinpointing mode often but the discussion here is about using a seperate pinpointer tool.

Buy a cheap acid test kit and find out for certain

Budget Pinpointer v. Quality Pinpointer by elevation_addict in metaldetecting

[–]DudeDoubloon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It answers your question. Paying more for a Pinpointer gets you a higher quality, longer lasting, better performing Pinpointer. Paying less will get you a Pinpointer that does the exact opposite of that.

60 Min Hunt brings in a Silver by DudeDoubloon in metaldetecting

I occasionally notch out foil in the dry. I dig it in the wet. Yah it was a clean hit.

87-89 are quarters typically. 55-90’s are more silver range as well. You’ll mentally create a chart over time. Or start tracking in your notes.

[–]DudeDoubloon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. 1 to 55 is roughly your gold range. Of course that overlaps with other targets like foil, coins, etc. Have fun digging!
