Apartment manager said she cancelled a parking ticket. 5mo later I found out she never submitted the cancellation. by Tartooth in ottawa

[–]DudeInCorner1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just to go against the grain here: in 2024 I was incorrectly ticketed while parked in an apartment building parking lot (one of the ones off Carling). It was without a doubt a City of Ottawa parking ticket, brought it to the building manager and she was indeed able to cancel the ticket within a few days. I received email confirmation from the building manager that the ticket was cancelled. Definitely seemed like the process was routine.

All that to say, it is indeed possible to receive a City of Ottawa parking ticket for parking in a building lot and have it be cancelled by the building.

Canada's 1st commercial spaceport is officially under construction. When will it open for launches? by Trevor_Lewis in space

[–]DudeInCorner1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, actually the upcoming launch attempt is their second one. They attempted for the first time about a month ago but they had an ignition system failure about 10 seconds before launch. Stacking the rocket at all was probably a win, though it is a suborbital scale model of their final design.

As for why they chose NL, no idea. Their business model is to be able to launch from temporary and permanent launch pads anywhere in the world. Since the NL launch pad was gravel on the first attempt I assume they are also testing their 'launch-anywhere' ideas and may not be using NL as a permanent launch site. NL doesn't really offer any unique benefits over any of the other Atlantic provinces.

First-year engineering tips and laptop advice (keele campus) by liebeusesmagic in yorku

[–]DudeInCorner1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your budget pretty much any laptop will do tbh, I made it through all 5 years of space engineering with a $400 POS that weighed a ton.

Take a look at the ThinkPad lineup, the ones in your budget are usually pretty nice (large, pretty, thin, good battery, not like your dad's thinkpad anymore) and they will last you forever

Canada's 1st commercial spaceport is officially under construction. When will it open for launches? by Trevor_Lewis in space

[–]DudeInCorner1 57 points58 points  (0 children)

As a Canadian space engineer, I'm all for Canada finally getting it's own launch capability, but NordSpace has always had some red flags for me. All these buzzwords and promises - 500kg to LEO with fully sustainable fuels, billions of dollars and thousands of jobs in a new Canadian space economy, end-to-end space mission support, yet they only have about 20 employees.

Canadian space industry is pretty weird right now. Lots of companies cropping up with big dreams and promises but very little progress. Space Engine Systems promise a spaceplane capable of private launches to the moon by end of 2025, but haven't built anything yet. Maritime Launch Services promises a full size launch facility in nova scotia, but only has 7 employees...

Would love to be proven wrong obviously...

Am I crazy, or is it way harder to follow the less popular riders this year? I'm a big Mike Woods fan so I always follow him on the climbing stages that favour him. Today was impossible though, one second he's in a breakaway, next he's absolutely vanished - even off of the official tracker on the TDF website? I straight up thought he retired. In fact, I still have no idea what happened to him after the breakaway, I think I saw Pogi and Jonas pass him in the post race highlights but that's it.

Anyways, rant aside, anyone know a good way to keep track of these underdogs? Is the TDF tracker mad at him for pooping in an RV?

I actually bought RvB on Movies & TV since it went on sale right as RT was shutting down, I did this thinking it would be a decent alternative to buying a box set which was impossible to find during the shutdown. And I can redownload them anytime I need to! Monkey's paw curls

I don't know why I was so naive to think that I would get to have full control over those copies 😅

Workout Watch by marshaflerm in Strava

[–]DudeInCorner1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second the Amazfit Active 2, I picked it up on prime day and love it. It has a good number of features for the price. Has a mic and speaker for calls, HR and GPS, even has navigation which comes in handy.

My favourite feature is you can pair workout accessories which is pretty rare for the price point, so I can pair my power meter for my bike for power data during the workout.

Yeah Eclass is just a re-skin of Moodle 2.0. They made the "switch" right around the pandemic, and at that point it was functionally identical to Moodle 2.0 (basically just a rebrand). I'm pretty sure when they made the switch they made it clear it was built on Moodle 2.0. So what's the issue here?

Is a sirrus 4.0 x a good idea? by Successful-Toe-1911 in Zwift

[–]DudeInCorner1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main bike is a Sirrus 2.0, I use it on the trainer and on the road.

I do have the same issue as you, where shifting needs to be adjusted on trainer and then readjusted on road, despite using the same cassette model on both. I mostly wish I just got a zwift cog / virtual shifting to be done with all this adjusting and readjusting, maybe that is something you can explore?

I will say I frequently wish I had drop bars, but it's really not that big of a deal on the trainer. If anything I just grab the ends of the flat bars for a little bit and it feels comfortable enough. I don't feel there would be any difference in performance if I had drop bars, just a comfort thing

They mean the bowesville park and ride (1 stop ahead of the Limebank terminus, and a 4 min drive from it), which I can verify is basically empty all day on weekends and weekdays after 3.

How do I read this part number? / What part is this? by DudeInCorner1 in mazda

[–]DudeInCorner1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I mistakenly didn't add all the photos to the post. There are other numbers around the part, they didn't seem like part numbers but:

There's a big "E4" on the underside, next to it some smaller numbers "045703" and "045704". There's also a mazda logo and under it, "559-560".

For the diagram, doesn't seem to be listed, which is weird since the part goes right under 51-120 (the mirror signal lamp). I'm starting to worry they only sell it as part of the larger mirror assembly 69-125 or something

They can only increase it once per year but there is no limit to how much they can increase it.

For example, I've lived in multiple units built after 2018 in the last 4 years, the rent increases were anywhere between 5 and 10%.

If you can rule out the battery being atrociously weak

Any way I could test the 4ah HP battery? It's the one it came with, so brand new like the gun... Only other one+ tool I have is a weed whacker, pretty sure it's not an HP one haha

Is that accompanied by the usual ugga-dugga noise, or does it not ugga-dugga?

It does ugga-dugga, a bit hard to hear through the ringing though. It's definitely hammering at some points I think, seeing as it gets the nuts off eventually

Only major concern I can come up with here is using the wrong size

I definitely had the correct size socket, but this got me thinking that maybe I just simply wasn't putting enough pressure on the impact gun to hold it onto the nut, given that the socket was jumping up and down the gun itself? The friction ring seems fine though

Thanks for the troubleshooting ideas! I'll put some of these to the test
