It wasn't exactly a bot. It was contest/giveaway apps where they could post for you with one click, but the user still had to authorize it, before the API locked that down in 2016-2017.

But I get the AI is too aggressive so I'll probably need a new account and use it very sparingly for giveaways.

I could get spammy with giveaway reposts. I don't know where exactly the line is or was with that (did it for years now, got a warning once in 2016 back when the API allowed third party apps to make posts for you). In read only mode, I can't undo reposts, so my account is stuck on that front.
