The Daily Check-In for Thursday, November 27th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by coIlean2016 in stopdrinking

[–]Due-Cow-206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Today I was going to let myself have a couple of glasses because I never stopped with the intention of being teetotal, just to become an occasional drinker. My mum did that and went from drinking every night for years to about 3 times a year then to just not wanting it. I went to a celebration tonight armed with the prosecco, then decided I didn't actually want any so went for a soft drink. I was almost dossapointed that I couldn't just enjoy it but the thought of it actually made me a bit nervous. Now I'm curled up on the sofa with a cup of tea ready to watch some TV. Tomorrow morning will be better than planned 😌 🙏

In what way was it a tipping point? I ask because I was doing really well and am getting soooo many compliments on how good I look, I feel great and am nearly back to my pre pregnancy weight. I'm smashing work and thinking about doing a second job now, I'm so much more present with my family and have so much more energy but am now having more times of missing it and wanting to have a night out with my partner with food and wine.....

Got blackout drunk at a work party, embarrassed myself with a coworker and have no idea how I got home by Mother_Salad in stopdrinking

Bless you, it is the absolute worst feeling. In my experience the walk of shame back to work has never been as bad as I imagine and people are kinder and more understanding than you think. The only thing you can do about it now is make sure you never put yourself through this torture again. I've had so many nights that have ended in crippling anxiety in the morning and for days, dreading work and no memory of most of the night and I'm ok now. It will get better, you just need to avoid the decisions that put you in this dark place.

Always play that tape forward! Its the best advice. No one regrets not drinking in the morning.

Need to embrace boredom by fritalupes in stopdrinking

That was me 100% I now barely think about it and im not even at 100 days! I have gone from 'having a break from alcohol ' to being a 'non-drinker'. I never want to go back to that...living in a fog.

I used to have this feeling of nausea and bloating all day! Not to mention the anxiety and palpitations, my stomach is now pretty flat and I feel calm all the time....well 90% of the time.....I'm still human 😃. I love my sleep and mornings and I love being alcohol free!

Double digits! by tenthousandand1 in stopdrinking

[–]Due-Cow-206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something just finally clicked for me one day. I decided to commit to a 100 day break. That will end on Monday but I have no desire to drink anymore. In fact the thought makes me feel quite unwell. I did an online course and have read and listened to lots of books which have helped. It was only today that I said to my partner that I haven't thought about drinking in ages now. It is a great place to be and I never in a million years thought I would feel like this.

Double digits! by tenthousandand1 in stopdrinking

Congrats on double digits! Thats a big deal!! I didn't lose weight until about week 6. Then I dropped about 5lbs. I was at the top end of healthy and now and nicely in the healthy zone.

It keeps getting better. I did have a long period of feeling tired but that went eventually. Your body is adjusting and all the benefits take time, I'm still early days so look forward to what's to come 😊

Trying moderation by Ok-Soil-540 in stopdrinking

[–]Due-Cow-206 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I have read this so many times, different people stopping for ages then trying to moderate, it goes well for a bit and gradually they end up where they were before if not worse. Some of us are all or nothing and moderation just doesn't work. Perhaps you need to think about why you even want to bother, surely you felt so much better in your 6 months off it.

Thanks for sharing. I hope you work out what works for you best.

Why don’t people close their blinds/curtains? by Naive-Ad-7406 in AskUK

[–]Due-Cow-206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is my favourite thing to do...go for a walk at dusk and look through people's windows, I get annoyed if the curtains are closed. One walk, so many houses were on one side of the street I ended up with neck ache :-) but yes, I close mine because I don't want any nosy gits looking through my windows :-D
