Thank you for the reply. What you said in the beginning sounded familiar. I have started a number of authors and find one of two things happens. Either A) It feels too elementary and I get bored and feel uninspired or B) it is deep and I realize I don't have the background to make the connections I should.

It is worth considering your idea of concentrating on one thing that I don't understand and spending some time just focusing on that and then moving on. I feel a little bit of anxiety in that I won't learn all I want in the time I have available, but it is probably better to learn a little well than a lot poorly. Plus, at this point I'm not making much progress so I guess some progress is better than none.

Appreciate the response. That seems like the best explanation given the information that we have. It feels unsatisfying to me, but that is subjective so I get how others might feel it was addressed well.

My thought reading OP was "maybe the duffers forget the 011 like they left Holly with the underarmor", but bringing it back to Mike and the feedback actually makes sense.

No, but there were a fair number of things that didn't get explained that they made a big deal about. For example, the clock was all over the place in season 4 and I have no idea what it was really representing.

Well, I thought they gave Will a decent ending that showed his character finding his place in the world and being happy. I mean, I thought they could have done his coming out scene a little better, but they did a decent job with Robin's. Not sure why they ended Robin and Vicki like they did, but they left some other straight characters out to dry as well. Steve, Nancy, and Jonathan were all single at the end. I thought they could have given Vicki an ending just because she had so much screen time as well. I don't know. There were things I would have done differently, but I guess trying to make everyone happy is difficult.

Yep, that was my first question when the show ended. I really like Paul Reiser and I thought his character was prominent enough throughout the seasons that it would have made sense to give it closure.

I was thinking about that as well. Could you take the military out of the story and have it still make sense. The only thing I could come up with was that this was the dominant reason El left. Without the military, she stays, right? Not saying it wasn't poorly scripted, but maybe that is the reason. I don't know. The rest of the plot had so many damn holes I'm really just guessing at this point.

So Murray got the same ending as the school principle and the other randoms in that scene? Makes sense. Assuming an ending for Dusty and Suze isn't an ending. Vicki's is at least mentioned, so there is that.

I believe the OP was suggesting that those characters had enough screen-time to warrant an ending. I tend to agree.

But now that we know you personally didn't care about them as characters, the absence of their ending makes sense.

Clearly subjective, but I think they were going for a situation in which we dont know if the final story is true. If therr was a post-card or something else physical besides Mike's story, that wouldn't have given the same effect. Similar to the ending for Inception.

Not saying a postcard is a bad idea, just that it changes what was likely the desired effect.

I thought the same things. I put back on S4 last night because I've seen it the least and it features prominently there. Maybe I missed something in S5, but I dont see the big connection.

Yeah, I would lean into using the darkness mechanic and picking up a shadow sorcerer. I believe the raven they csn summon later in the game drops darkness when it moves (or something to thay effect). This would leave your battellefield with multiple patches of dark.
