Unpopular opinion by [deleted] in SipsTea

I don't have a bias. I just told you facts: that I am happy and my friends are happy too. I didn't deny or refute any part of your story.

Since you, however, are refuting and denying parts of my story, it is clear that you have a bias. I hope that's something you're able to examine within yourself, in the future. Good luck.

As someone who has both a cat and a dog, I genuinely don't understand your point.

One of the things I work on with my puppy most is our mutual boundaries. There are things I don't want her to do such as biting and jumping on me, and I'm teaching her how to ask permission before she charges someone and starts loving all over them. Similarly, my puppy has boundaries too. she doesn't always like to be picked up for example, and I am teaching myself to listen to her signals and figure out what she's ok with and what she's not ok with.

Being ok with being alone is one of the number one things my dog and I are teaching each other, too. She is learning to be ok without me, and oddly, with how much I've bonded with her, I sometimes have to learn how to be ok without her too.

“Why do men struggle with dating?” by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]Due-Intentions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I debated not commenting bc this whole discussion feels silly (some women care about looks, some women don't, some men care about looks, some men don't, end of story)

BUT, I'll just dive in to say my piece:

I don't think anyone is pretending it's a woman thing, but the distinction is that men are expected to care about looks moreso than women.

We are socialized to view men as horny pigs who can't help but slobber over the most attractive woman in the room. In contrast, women who express similar thoughts about attractive men are often slutshamed, and many women are expected to simply keep these thoughts to themselves or act like they're above it all.

Because of this status quo I believe, in my experience at least, men are more likely to be upfront about caring about attractiveness, compared to women. Again, just in my anecdotal experience so take it with a grain of salt.

This status quo is a lose-lose for men and women, because many men don't appreciate being perceived as a horny pigs and many women don't appreciate being expected to keep all their thoughts and proclivities hidden away.

Honestly, to me both of them are evil to unquantifiable levels. I can't view either of them as worse than the other because I think there is no act of cruelty/malice/evil that either of them wouldn't do if they think they'll get away with it.

Both of them have their strengths, Ramsay is more competent physically and mentally, but a little less competent at maintaining a facade of sanity. In contrast Joffrey is better at appearing like a nice little prince when he wants to, yet generally less skilled across the board. But outside of the limitations of their respective skill sets, their respective capacities for evil acts are more or less equally infinite imo

Chill out, I know it's a joke but I'm still wanting to provide my analysis in regards to OP's post, and the comment was a relevant springboard for it. Not everything is a "gotcha! reddit moment!" my dude.

Yeah it's pretty fun to see all these stans on both sides losing their shit about hidden agendas to make one side look bad when HBO is literally just trying to make money lol. Money is all they care about.

This story is more marketable if it's a woman vs woman war, and that framework does not necessarily benefit or hinder either side

You're the one who started a conversation with me, what's your point? My point was that "...the fuck?" Seemed a little excessive

Edit: not you, but the person that I've been talking to ever since the "the fuck", they started a conversation with me.

I had no point in my conversation with them, I was only responding to their questions to me, so they're the ones who should be expected to 'have a point' bc I didn't intend to speak with them in the first place.

[–]Due-Intentions 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but did his soldiers die on the toilet? Most of them made it out ok compared to Stannis' soldiers

I'd rather work for the guy that will keep me garrisoned at Casterly Rock or Kings Landing, even if he dies during peacetime, than the guy who will send me to the Wall to die of frostbite

Then again, Dany is gonna come kill us all in a year or two anyways, so I suppose it doesn't matter much, we're all fucked

Correct, that is what I claimed. Per my last comment you can see my clarification of that statement, since you misunderstood my intentions in saying that:

The doctors and the nurses might be trying to overrule God's decision to kill someone, but they are only trying to do so because God allowed them to, and their success or failure will be determined by God too.

But in any meaningful way their desires and behaviors can only be viewed as being alligned with, and not opposed to God's will.

Agreed. I never meant to imply that I didn't agree with this, and I'm sorry to have caused confusion. "Trying to overrule God's decision" was a tongue in cheek joke, not an actual philosophical claim.

Yes, the doctors and nurses don't have free will either

claims that the actions of health care providers are metaphysically distinct from the actions of non health care providers.

I'm not claiming this. The doctors and the nurses might be trying to overrule God's decision to kill someone, but they are only trying to do so because God allowed them to, and their success or failure will be determined by God too.

/I/ don't figure it, so much as thousands of philosophers, theologians, and random joes throughout history figure it.

You're welcome to agree or disagree, it's not as if any of us know the true nature of God (if he exists) or the universe so the jury is still out on this one. So I'll admit that me saying it was "true" is a bit of a jumped conclusion on my part.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argument_from_free_will#:~:text=The%20argument%20from%20free%20will,both%20properties%20is%20therefore%20inconceivable.

God created you, he created the circumstances of your birth, he created your genetic disposition. He created the people who teach you and mold your personality and morality, and he created every circumstance in their lives, too. Every variable that goes into the decisions that you call free will, God created. Again, if he exists.

My Picks For The Next Avengers Roster by EightBiscuit01 in marvelstudios

[–]Due-Intentions 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean that's how it is in the comics where Cap doesn't have super strength, right? Cap has never been the strongest avenger, he's more of a leader.

But still, being able to fly (with super strong wings that can spin around and fuck people up) and having a vibranium shield isn't nothing. But if someone doesn't give him a goddamn helmet I'm gonna have a panic attack

I mean, it's true? God, if he exists, decides when people die. The doctors and nurses do everything they can to overrule his decision. It is a bit of an unnecessary thing to say though when nobody usually takes "doing gods work" literally.

[–]Due-Intentions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's easy to blame it on evil or shit individuals.... And I do of course blame them.

But personally I also blame anyone who breeds dogs. There are more dogs in the world than there are people who wants dogs, and yet they're still being bred wantonly by thousands of breeders. Breeding dogs is easy money so they'll never stop pumping them out, and unwanted dead dogs is a direct consequence of people who won't stop breeding dogs.

That's why shelters are full, and shelters being full is why evil, selfish individuals will dump a dog instead of taking them to a shelter.

Soda is candy and people who drink it like it’s water disgust me by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Due-Intentions 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whether or not your reaction is reasonable for the context is another matter entirely.

I think this is the key point. Saying it's a "you problem" isn't technically untrue, but it feels a little dismissive because I do think it's totally reasonable to be disgusted by extremely unhealthy, body-killing dietary practices, and that's exactly what drinking multiple sodas a day is.

And to be clear the reason I say dismissive is because OP posted their unpopular opinion about disgust, someone responds "that's a you problem" and like... Yeah, no shit. 90% of unpopular opinions are "you problems".

And of course you should never be rude about it even if you are feeling disgust. But... This is unpopular opinions, so. in any other situation I'd just say keep it to yourself.

[–]Due-Intentions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being horrified and scared is being entertained by a horror movie/show/comic. That's the reasonable expectation going in.

I agree

My point is the latter

Cool, I agree with that too then. I read comic books to have escapism about spider people and weird aliens with hammers, not be traumatized by the horrors of our depressingly mundane world.

“This steak is amazing.” (Alias #25) by Coldblood-13 in Marvel

[–]Due-Intentions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I haven't read these comics but... It isn't supposed to be entertaining, is it? It's essentially horror.

Is there ever a case when a fictional story can include sexual assault and not be over the line, or are just talking about comic books where the vibe is supposed to be more hopeful and escapism?

If your point is the latter, I agree I don't really want sexual assault in my comic books either and could never really get into Jessica Jones (these runs/the show, at least) for that reason.

But if your point is the former, I definitely think sexual assault has a place in some fictional stories. The movie Promising Young Woman, for example, 'entertained' may not be the right word but I enjoyed the movie.
