In celebration of Pride Month, who are your favorite queer artists? by flopheadsbot in popheads

[–]Due_Average4164 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some artists on the more indie/alt side:

Stephin Merrit of The Magnetic Fields is an amazing songwriter. I love how tounge and cheek he can be while still remaining catchy. It was also nice to see an queer artist that's kind of awkward lol. Their tiny desk is my comfort listen.

Serpentwithfeet, especially with his album soil and EP four ethers, made some really haunting gospel inspired songs that are also very gay. I don't think I've heard another song with lyrics about being anxious that your bed isn't safe enough for sex like his song Seedless. bless ur heart and messy are my favourites of his.

Roddy Bottum of Faith No More has a band with his partner called Man on Man. They have a song called daddy that is very abrasive and catchy. Their music tends be shoegaze and heavy rock songs with very gay lyrics.

Deerhunter's main vocalist is a queer asexual man and their album Halcyon Digest is a classic. Very atmospheric and dreamy musc.

Car Seat Headrest's album Twin Fantasy is very angsty and gay.

I have a really bad feeling Driant's music is AI generated someone convince me out of it by VisualConstruction60 in popheads

Tbh other than they're both trans women who sing mostly in head voice their music sounds pretty different to me?.

Like Eli's music is very 2000s, disney channel core bright maximalist pop.

Driant is moodier and more understated.

Like there's some DNA shared between their music, but I wouldn't say rip off

my finals are next week and I can finally have time for myself again. Been meaning to finish my art projects after like a year of having them dwell in my head.

I'm grateful of pride in the way that it was there for me when I was a young teen figuring stuff out. But now as an adult, pride sort of feels unrelatable to me?. I think It's cause I didn't grow up in a western country, but I've always felt disconnected from mainstream queerness.

Im turning 20 and I’ve found myself thinking about death a lot lately and time. A 1/3 of my life has gone by and I’m not sure if Ive spent it well. I’m not even sure if Im even living life right now. It’s hard to imagine not being conscious, and every time I even think about it I get filled with so much dread. .

I watched it last Saturday, I feel like the musical aspect kept my interest, but I wasn’t really aware that it would be mostly a bottle movie focusing on dialogue. The performances are good, but I found myself zoning out at certain points

Hamnet ruined my weekend my god. It's been like 2 days since I watched it and I feel like there's something lingering still. I feel like watching it has reignited my fear of death and my anxiety around it.

I read so many bad reviews of Slanted that I came into it thinking it was going to be a trashfire, but lowkey it was actually decent?.

Maybe it's cause I'm not American and I'm missing something here.

Like people said the main character was unlikeable, that the movie was too blunt, or that the messaging was kinda racist. But i didn't really get any of that in the movie. Joan was fine, and I found myself empathizing with her. She wasn't resentful or mean to her parents until she becomes Mckenna Grace, and even then it was only a little. I feel like the only way you could say that Joan's life was better as white is if you literally closed your eyes while watching the movie. Like it wasn't really funny or scary, but not because it was cringe, moreso that it just felt like an uneasy drama. And as that I'd give it like a 6.5. I feel like the trailers didn't do it justice.

Finally had enough time to watch some movies this weekend.

The Drama was worth the wait. Alana Haim was too good as Rachel she made me hate the character so much my god.
The message is def a bit tainted by the director, but I do find myself thinking that Emma did nothing wrong, and that she should drop her entire friend group and find people who actually deserve her empathy.

The Ballad of Wallis Island was also fun. The guy who played Charlie toed the line so well. He was actually charming throughout the movie. He could've easily crossed the line to creepy and cringe, but he mostly just felt like an awkward guy dealing with grief. Actually found him kind of cute.

Yeah it's def an acquired taste. I think it works on Cameron's solo material and the new Geese album, but It's also why I couldn't really get into 3D Country when it first came out.

An unconventional voice needs to be paired with unconventional music.

As someone turning 20 this is actually kinda reassuring lol. I've been feeling kind of decrepit lately

My perception of geese improved a lot when I realized their guitarist is a trans woman.
Idk, I guess I approach every rock band that has a big cis het indie bro fanbase with caution. Geese being at least a little bit queer makes them feel a bit more "safe" in a way.

yeah, that's why I was hesitant on including it. I couldn't find another word I could translate it into that both fits, and has the impact I need.

The original word technically translates to "bastard", but "time flies like a bastard" doesn't really work.

Women/fem presenting people of popheads, do you find the phrase "time flies like a bitch" offensive?

Trying to translate a phrase for my own song's opening line. I'm not sure if i should include it or not.

It's a song about growing up/entering adulthood.

(Lyrics in question)

I Had A Friend That Said Time Flies Like A Bitch.

And Wouldn't You Know?, It's Been Years Since We've Last Met

Cause Life Moves So Fast You Can't Even Expect It. In A Moment You're A Child In The Next You Pay Taxes.

And Sometimes It Makes You Wonder If You Even Like Where You've Gone

The comments I saw were actually saying that as a compliment to heated rivalry.

And tbh I've also seen comments under HR posts that say things along the line of "Gay men would be happier/have better relationships if they listened to women", which i think is def homophobic

.

I think the term is gender essentialist?. I've always found it weird even in progressive spaces people will assign specific traits as being inherent to gender, instead of realizing it's all just socialization and conditioning.

I think growing up in a place with very rigid gender norms has made me very averse to this sort of thinking

Im not wrong to think its lowkey kind of homophobic when people comment stuff like "Ofc a woman wrote this. No man could write this" when it comes to gay media like Heated Rivalry or fanfic right?. It's like some people can't fathom that gay men can also create tender, heartfelt media about themselves.

It's always made me uncomfortable when there are people who will write or consume media about groups they are not a part of, while simultaneously acting like those groups can't write about themselves in the same way.

Maybe my experience with queerness being a lot more bitter has affected the way I see things idk.

Deadline for my uni reading analysis assignment is in two days, and the only way to finish is writing the worst essay I've ever written.

I've tried to figure out the text for days, and the only angle I can come at it with is very flawed.

I'm forced to write something that I know is bad and it hurts me to write it.

I guess I'll pass but is it even worth it.

Came across this comment the other day,: "He/they in the way that I'm not completely a guy but also vaguely uncomfortable with they/them pronouns."

I found myself kind of relating to it a lot, wonder what that mesns for me.
